Maybe warming up by snapping a towel shouldn't be allowed?

Perhaps we shouldn't adopt everything ball golf does, but decide which rules enhance disc golf, and which don't.

On the other hand, perhaps we should start raking our footprints out of the sand.

David,

While I agree in principle with your...

"Perhaps we shouldn't adopt everything ball golf does, but decide which rules enhance disc golf, and which don't."

...that statement I hope is not taken (by others) as condemnation of that which SEEMS to be an arcane / "stoopid" rule in bg (if it were adopted into dg). This may not be the case nearly as often as the "liberal dg'ers" think.

I know YOU know (others may not) that bg rules may seem "stricter" than dg rules BUT there is a pragmatic outcome here...that is that in tournaments, bg "interpretations" don't NEARLY come up as much as they do in dg tournaments. Thus: bg rules "cover" bg better than do dg rules "cover" dg (at the present time).

Proviso: bg has had longer to 'refine' their rules than we have had to refine ours.

Maybe we just need more time!

Karl

No, no criticism of ball golf or its rules.

In various discussions and debates, people often bring up ball golf as an analogy---or as proof for their argument. Sometimes with an air of "Ball golf does it and ball golf is big---therefore disc golf should do it and get big too."

So my thoughts are that we should look at ball golf, while remembering that we're a different sport. Steal the ideas that are good for us, discard the ones that aren't.

Oh, and I know Chuck's not one committed to emulating ball golf, just being provocative.

I find it interesting that ball golf allows actual practice shots between holes if it doesn't delay play of your group or group following: http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Rule-07

And yet practicing with a weighted donut is not allowed apparently how 4-2 is interpreted by adding weight to the club: http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Rule-04

Maybe we could start by stealing this bizarre and arcane idea from ball golf: actually follow the rules we do have written, and follow them as written.

From there we might even consider this radical process: instead of ignoring the rules we don't think are important or contriving excuses not to follow them as written, we revise the written rules if needed and always follow the ones that are written, as written.

Nah, this is disc golf. By no means should anyone ever be assessed a penalty stroke! If you want to win you should practice more instead of being a filthy dirt-bag that would actually make a rules call on someone.

Warming up by snapping a towel is one thing, but if you are snapping a towel during the round and it distracts another player well then you should be warned.

Staying warmed up during your round, try streching or maybe get out the hacky sack as long as your not in view of another basket or tee.
