I always love these articles and I usually think of disc golf whenever I see them. Forbes recently rated Pittsburgh (http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/americas-most-livable-cities-2010) as America's most livable city, and with the Deer Lakes, Knob Hill, and Moraine State Park courses nearby, it's also got world class disc golf courses.

So this list from CNNMoney.com (http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/100-best-places-to-live-in-america-2010-edition) lists the 100 best places to live in America, and let's look at the top 10 and the courses nearby:

1. Eden Prairie, MN - The Twin Cities has something like 50 courses within an hour of the area. If you can stand the long winters, this must be disc golf heaven the rest of the year.

2. Columbia/Ellicott City, MD - The Rockburn Ranch course is very close, and while it's not in the elite tier, it's one course most people would be very happy to have as a home course. Merriweather Post Pavilion is a great place to see concerts, and as long as there's no traffic, Seneca Creek and Patapsco are a short drive away.

3. Newton, MA - Though a bit of a drive, Maple Hill is one of the best courses in the world and Borderland State Park is also a top 20 course.

4. Bellevue, WA - My brother lives in Tacoma so I visit the area once every couple of years. Sure, it's overcast in the winter but the summers there are to die for - literally bluebird skies for 3 months straight. The courses are nice but they'd be a lot better if the ludicrous multiple overlapping layouts were eradicated. If I lived locally I'd probably walk around Ft. Steilacoom with a football helmet on for safety.

5. McKinney, TX - I've only been to Houston and Austin, but a lot of golfers say good things about the Dallas / Ft. Worth disc golf scene.

6. Fort Collins, CO - As a lifelong downhill skiier, I'd be in heaven here and I'd probably head up to the mountains every weekend in the summer too to play the courses on the ski hills.

7. Overland Park, KS - As people who just played in Pro/Am Worlds 2009 can attest, the Kansas City area has some fantastic courses and seems like it would be an awesome city to live in as well.

8. Fishers, IN - I'm not familiar with the Indianapolis disc golf scene - what's it like? Deer Creek Amphitheatre in nearby Noblesville is reportedly a sweet venue to see concerts.

9. Ames, IA - Carroll Marty and ISU are in town, and all the other world class courses in Des Moines that people raved about after Pro/Am Worlds in 2004 are only a short drive.

10. Rogers, AR - The Lake Bella Vista course in Bentonville ranks highly and everybody says great things about Horseshoe Canyon which looks to be within an hour away.

Who says we stop playing once it snows in Minnesota? That's when it finally becomes a challenge :D

Just take a glance at the temps and wind chills during winter league play: http://www.sundogtournamentseries.com/chillydog/scores_wk05.htm
