This year Sooner Disc Golf has put together the first-ever Sooner Point Series!

The series is made up of three tournaments:
Three-Park Throwdown (April 3rd and 4th)
32nd Annual Norman Pro/Am (May 29th and 30th)
Oklahoma State Championships (August 7th and 8th)
Rev War (December 4th and 5th)

Here's the deal: You play all four tournaments. Your placement in each tournament bears a certain number of points with it, based on the PDGA scale. After the last tournament in the series (the State Championships), your three best scores are assigned points and added up to earn your place in the Series!

There is over $1,000 (and growing) added to the Series, so bring your best game to each tournament! More details to be announced!

I heard it was 4 tourneys...including the Rev.War

So it's all 3 tournaments or nothing?

Marie42317
Apr 05 2010, 12:50 PM
Correction: After discussing this with Steve and Jason, we have decided to include the Rev War in the Series. If you miss one tournament of the Series, you are NOT out of the running, you just better hope you do really well in the next three!! ;) Refer to Jason Bieda's DNF at the Three-Park! Lol!

Series point totals (to date) will be available following the Norman Pro/Am!

BombK2
Apr 05 2010, 04:40 PM
So if you play in all four your lowest score gets dropped?

Marie42317
Apr 05 2010, 05:06 PM
Okay, this is the way Jason explained it to me: The Series will be based on your 3 best scores in the same division. So if you played Am in the unsanctioned one and you normally play Advanced in sanctioned tournaments, the Am one will be dropped, same with Advanced and Pro. If you play the same division in all four tournaments your score will be compiled from your best three based on the PDGA point system. I should probably repeat this: your score will not be compiled across multiple divisions!! Only the three best from the same division will count towards your Series score.
Does that make more sense?
(This is my first time being involved in a series, so forgive the hiccups! ;) )

So I guess I'm already out. There is no way you will have three Master or Grandmaster fields in the tournaments you have listed.

Marie42317
Apr 07 2010, 01:50 PM
You're not out, Kyle! There will be plenty of other Pro Masters at the Pro/Am as well as States. You'll definitely have competition! ;)

Apr 08 2010, 08:47 AM
I get what Kyle is saying. There's only 2 tournaments remaining for him to earn points in open masters. The rev war is all one division. I'm in the same boat. I can't earn three tourneys worth of points unless I play open in the pro am and states. So here's the solution: totallly reconfigure the rev war (I'm NOT in favor of), let people earn points regardless of sticking to one division, or kyle can play adv. the rest of the series and I can play open (something wrong with that).

Marie42317
Apr 08 2010, 02:43 PM
I see where you guys are coming from! Okay, I'll bring these points up at the meeting tonight and have a solution for you by tomorrow!

Apr 27 2010, 07:41 PM
Did you guys come up with a good plan?

Marie42317
Apr 29 2010, 07:28 PM
This year, as part of the point series, the Rev War will have the same divisions as the other three tournaments in the series.
Hope that clears up the confusion! :)

May 05 2010, 08:28 AM
Can we get a points update? I realize I missed the 1st tournament that counted...but I wanna know what I'm up against! I'm sure others are interested to know where they stand.

Marie42317
May 13 2010, 09:46 PM
Well, giving an update now would seem foolish, as placements in the Series are currently the same as placements in the Three-Park. After the Pro/Am, there will be something to update and I promise I will get the points update posted as quickly as I possibly can following the tournament! ;)

Sooner Point Series Update!
**If you have played in two different divisions so far, and there is an asterisk next to your name in one division and not in another, this is the set we recommend you drop since the points do not transfer across divisions. Also, don't forget that these points are comparative. They are based on your rankings in comparison with those who play in your same division. Two tournaments left in the series!! Which one will your competition miss?**

Oh yea, I forgot to mention this but payout was HUGE.

One of the best.... 1st place with 23 Advanced - 19 Disc = No DX = 2 or 3 Kc pros = The rest Champion/Star

The Rev War is the final tournament in Norman's first annual point series! You had to have played in the same division in 3 out of the 4 Series tournaments (Three-Park Throwdown, Norman Pro/Am, State Championships, and Rev War) to win. The cash awards for the Series will be handed out after the awards ceremony for the Rev War. If you are in a position to win, come play the Rev to get a leg up on your competition!
The Series Awards Ceremony will begin around 4:30 or 5:00 at Colonial Park on Sunday, December 5th. If you are in a cashing position and you are not at the awards ceremony, you will forfeit your winnings, unless you have made other arrangements with Marie (405-365-8038) NO LATER THAN December 2nd.
See you there!!

Quick question. Originally wasn't it $3,000 and growing but was switched nov 27 to $1,000. Just wondering the reason for the drastic drop, did a sponsor drop out or money just wasn't coming in? Also, how many places are being payed out?

Marie42317
Nov 30 2010, 12:16 AM
Hey Brad! Yeah, it was originally planned at $3,000 and growing, but after dropping Popeyes as a sponsor, it dropped to $1,000. He had promised us $2,000 for it, but after his disturbingly dishonest behavior following the Three-Park, who knows what he would have taken from the golfers in return? Pfft. It sucks that we lost the sponsorship, but I'd rather not deal with the swindling sort to get it, you know? <sigh>
I won't go too deep into the state of our finances, but installing the Red Course at Griffin was a bigger expense than originally thought and turnout at the tournaments has been a bit lower than usual this year following the catastrophe that was the 2010 Pro/Am. But, we are a growing club, just trying to get the right people into the right places to make this all flow more smoothly in the future. :)
If Mr. Goodcents is offering, however, we would love to have our bi-monthly club meetings at your restaurant in exchange for cash sponsorship for the series! Just a thought... ;)
Oh! And we're paying out the top three places in each field!

**Guys, pay close attention to those MPRs when deciding whether you can compete for the cash or not! There is a very good chance that many of those marked with MPR won't be able to attend the Rev War, which will automatically bump you up!! See you at the Rev!**
