Can we just go back to the simple.....the cash you win equals your points?
I would play alot more league if it was done that way.

Plans still being made, but one of them is your winnings=your points.
Also the ace pot will be rolled for the entire league. One ace=one share.

Why no singles at Live Oak? How are people to get prepared for LOSO playing doubles? Plus that usually means shorter tees if its Dubs. I'd like to start playing (at least Open) from the longs and the harder holes. That way we can all be better prepared at LOSO.

As I said, plans are still in flux...we definitely want to help the locals get ready for LOSO. We will make adjustments to the schedule to accomplish that.
One of the things we discussed is that leading up to LOSO we will play the same layouts as LOSO as much as possible--no short or temp tee boxes.

$1 for the ctp
$1 for the opportunity to play with better players
The fun is no charge.
When I was new to the sport, I would have been more than willing to pay $1 to play with better players. That's how new players become ams, and later pros. We are trying to make it easier for new players to play.

If I were a new player....I wouldn't give $2.00 to give to the "better players". Let em play with "better players" for FREE. Pro Am Doubles should get those players the opportunity to play with "better players".
I say scratch that idea.

i also didnt start playing minis until i personally felt comfortable and confident enough to play with more experienced players. I think it is an individual decision. And i think if you ask 10 people you will get 10 different ideas. The only way to find out if you make the right choice for the league is to make your choice and see what your results are. If it is a good choice you stick with it if its not you make changes. different strokes for different folks. This is why we have two different clubs in town, that is the great thing about freemarket it gives people choices. This is my opinon, and only my opinon.

Maybe "division is not the right term.
<o></o>
I dont foresee this being a division like we normally think of it, where a player stays and competes for the season against other similarly skilled players. Its more of a transitional thing where a new player can test the waters and see what its like to play in an organized mini. If they like it, and when they are ready, we will encourage them to move into the amateur division.
<o></o>
It is intended for a casual player, like the ones you see on the local courses, but you never see at a mini. Maybe they have been playing just 6 months, and dont know anything about the local scene. This is a way for that person, with a minimal investment, to TRY IT OUT. They may not want to try it at $7, but for $2 they will. Or maybe one of the LOLOs who wants to try playing against the boys JUST TO SEE how she does, or to play with a PRO man, maybe for the first time, to see how they attack the course.
<o></o>
So, since this experiment doesnt cost anything, we are going to TRY IT OUT, JUST TO SEE. We want to see the return of the days of 40-50 players at a mini, and we think this could help. It cant hurt.

Great idea Brian!! Lot of new LOLO's won't play the league cause they usually don't cash at all.... They will play doubles before they play singles at least they have a chance....
This will help me encourage them more to play with the boys... Been trying for years to get the LOLO's out there! This might help....

As long as we're giving suggestions (don't take this as critisism, just suggestions) ...
Do 3 person cards (4 MAX) ... no more 5-6 person cards
DO NOT mix divisions, I know I'm probably in the minority on this and it isn't as though I don't like playing with AMs. Shoot I play with AMs almost every day. I'm just trying to win and there is cash on the line. I have a hard enough time trying to beat Phil and Orlando without having to play on a 5 man card where I am the only Pro. I need to play with the other Pros to help my game and to help push me along. If AMs want to play with Pros schedule a causal round with them of step up and play in that division for a week.
Also that way all the people in a single division will likely finish near the same time so I won't have to wait for that one 6 man card that is still on the course to see if I cashed.
Mix the groupings up ... no more Larry, Keith, Dusty, & John on the same card every week. Doesn't have to be scientific but just don't put the same people together each week. If I wanted to play with the same people each week I'd just call them for a casual round.
Play the exact LOSO configurations (at least as close as we can get).
Move doubles to UC, its much more of a doubles friendly course. LO is more of a course management course which doesn't bode well for doubles.
Pros play all long boxes all the time. To me this point shouldn't even be up for debate.
Again these are just one man's opinions and not meant as critisism, just use them for what you will.

i think a ladies division would be great, even though the lolos play free with each other each week already. playing casual and playing for something both have a different feeling to them. both are fun, but one makes you think a little more, and gets you ready for bigger competitions.

Guys,
The executive committee, along with the TD's have set the divisions and pay. Last year we tried something new on the advise of some members, it didn't work and we lost people who had been playing for a long time. We are going back to the way that it was. If you have other suggestions, PM or email an executive member and it can be discussed for consideration for next year.

I noticed you left off "post here in this thread" as one of the options for communicating suggestions. Was that intentional? The reason I ask is that my preference for communicating suggestions is via the discussion board as it provides a great way for people to collaborate openly, online, and asynchronously versus an email which tends to be less collaborative and more private. I am always for open discussions.

"Pro points earned by ams count towards amateur standings."
If an "Am" plays in the "Open" Division and cashes....they will not receive a cash payout? Or do they receive cash?
"In recognition that the TD must make a commitment and has responsibilities beyond that of the average player, the first 14 dollars paid in to the CTP prize will go half to the CTP and half to the TD. The TD will then pay into the mini like every other player, so that the PAYOUT REMAINS WHOLE. Once the count of players has been reached to the point where the TD has been compensated for the base entry fee (in this case, $7), all subsequent CTP money goes into the CTP prize. In effect, everyone pays a few cents to the TD, and majority of the CTP dollar they pay goes to the CTP prize. If there are 25 players and the TDs entry is $7, the CTP prize will be $18. The TD still pays into the CTP, Club Fund, and Ace Pot, plus any portion of his entry not derived from CTP money. If there are 10 players, the contribution to the TD is $5, and the TD pays the difference of $5."
I don't like this at all. If the club wants to pay the TD for running a mini then take it out of the Club Funds. You want me to pay the club and the TD? I think it's a good idea to let the TD play for FREE but don't charge us twice.:(
Suggestion for next years League. Post the rules at least a couple of weeks before it starts.

Yes the am who plays pro gets paid cash. This was a holdover from the rule where the am who won in the am division had to play pro the following mini. If they cashed in the pro division, the points counted for the am standings. We might could do away with this rule now.
Regarding the TD entry, I figured there would be griping no matter how we addressed this.
Last years payout chart took the TD entry out of the pro payout. This changes that and spreads it over all entries. My original idea WAS to take it out of the club fund, until I did the math and figured out that we would have had nothing left in the club fund after running a league that lasts 6 months.
Yes, it should have been finished sooner, but it wasnt finished until last night about 10 pm. Sorry.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very good at math but I can say that paying a TD's mini entry fee out of Club Funds will not wipe it out. If you really want them to play for FREE...pay them with club funds. Have the TD only pay for Ace Pot and CTP. It's $7.00 or $4.00 each mini for them to play FREE. I know the league averages more than 7 players each day so you will not have nothing left in the Club Funds after the 6 months. You would actually be adding money to them.
I didn't know we were paying for the TD to play last year. I thought you wanted more players to play this year? Here's an idea. How bout you go back to the same rules when there were lots of players? And quit changing them every year....keep it simple.

You are forgetting that we pay for trophies and the league party out of club funds. We would like to be able to put some money back into these courses and not just break even.
The TD/CTP idea is not open for discussion. But actually pros such as yourself benefit because now the ams are helping to pay for the TD where they weren't before, resulting in a pro payout that is higher than last year.

100% chance of rain today, with the exception of 11am-12pm, which will only be about 95% chance.
We will monitor and make the call this afternoon, regarding tonight's mini.

Recently we had a disagreement between players regarding what constituted a gimmie for a putt. The LODGA board has concluded that this comes from being too loose and casual with the rules. And since one of the reasons for mini-tournaments is to prepare players for sanctioned tournaments, and also recognizing that we have a lot of players who are new and may not know all the rules, we need to fix that. Players deserve fairness in return for their hard-earned money.
For this reason going forward all minis, not just League, we will be adhering to PDGA rules.
Know the rules and lets honor the game and play the right way. Not because there is a Board that says so, but because its the right thing to do. If we disrespect the game, then it wont grow like it should, because nobody wants to play a game if its not fair. And if we dont all play by the same rules, then it is not fair.

Hard to believe that another LODGA league is just about over.
This will be the final Tuesday and Thursday for the year. The days are just getting too short now, with sunset around 7:40, to get through before dark.
We are still working on the plan for the Party and Awards, so stay tuned for that.

Karma on hole 5 tonight:
Shawn H, Jerrod and myself on the card, everybody throwing out ideas for the league party. Shawn says Rick Gaskill could use some help to get a car, and he would give the first $100.
He steps up on the tee pad and says "This one's in the basket" and throws a perfect strike. Tracked perfectly the whole way.
So, mark it down, we will be having a jar for whatever anyone would like to give.

Couple of random notes:
The Last Chance Ace Pot mini on Saturday - You must meet all criteria for Ace pot money in order to get a share. For example, there is a qualification for number of minis played (10).
League Party - LODGA is paying for the property rental for the weekend, as well as food. We will have a small amount of water, but plan to BYOB. This helps keep the club out of trouble if we were to provide alcohol and something happened. So bring your own!

First chance I've had to post on this...the Party was great thanks to a lot of work by Jerrod (and Lena!). Others too, but they were the mainstays.
Great food, nice mini in the afternoon, ring of fire, and then awards. I bailed at about 8 and things were really just getting started cuz the fire got stoked, and I cant vouch for what went on after that.
Rick Gaskill was looking like his old self, and thanks in large part to Shawn Hess, we contributed I am guessing $200-300 to the Rick Gaskill vehicle fund. Brandon Jethro Tull actually GAVE Rick his old car, which was awesome in itself, so this money can go toward title and registration, insurance, etc.
Dave Mckibben was voted Bagger of the Year by proclamation, basically by default. Nonetheless, I believe his third year to win that award...cmon Dave move up already.
Also announced that LODGA will be giving $500 to the UC Parks Department for benches on as many holes are we can get them for $500. This will come from the club funds collected this past league. It was a great year, thanks everyone for playing. We had a total of 1,151 rounds played in 2010 compared to 753 in 2009. That's a 53% increase.
Best of all is the crop of young players we are seeing. Playing with better players really speeds up their learning curve. The Pro-Am format is the best format for this.
Thanks also to our TD's, Jerrod and Wolf for their dedication.
Thanks for playing!! Starting again in Spring 2011 after the time change.
