Is the format for the event posted? How many rounds and from what tees?
Thanks
SCOTT
Apr 04 2010, 01:32 PM
I wonder how many spots are left? I signed up on-line on Thursday and am still not showing as being registered. You are right the format doesn't seem to be posted anywhere. I expect the format to be the same as last year. 2 rounds on Saturday and 1 on Sunday and the same tee assignments.

What are you thinking Scott...That we had 51 people sign up over this holiday weekend??? Don't worry, I got your registration and I'll update the list first thing Monday morning once I get back into the office.
The format goes...2 rounds Sat. 1 round Sun.
Open/Masters - Gold Tee
Open Women/Advanced Divisions - Blue Tee
Intermediate Divisions - White Tee

Kurt, the Open women are playing Gold Tees. Or at least that is what Sid says. Though I think the girls should play 2 golds and 1 blue.

I'm just going off last years tee assignments...Which the Ladies played Blues...Sid will obviously have to make that call.

The “What tees should women (or advanced men) play from” debate can go on for a long time. You could resolve it all by the following PDGS document. http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/PDGASkillGuides2009.pdf
It states that MA1 (advanced), MPO (open), and MPM (pro masters) are the only groups that should play Gold Tees (over 969 rated) in Major events.
MM1 (advanced master), MJ1, MJ2, FPO (pro women open), MPG, MPS should be playing the Blue Tees (over 924 rated) in Major events.
FW1 (advanced women), MA2 (intermediate men), MG1, MS1, and FPM should be playing the White tees (over 874 rated) in Major events.
I shouldn’t have to say it again, but this is a decision that is ultimately made by the Tournament Director. We can all agree or disagree, but until we are the one running the event. We don’t get to make the decision.

Key word(s) in the previous post..."Major Event".
SCOTT
Apr 05 2010, 10:00 PM
True those are the key words. I'm not sure of your meaning though. If you look at the document it states that for regular (Daily) events that the tee assignments are even lower. They have Open Women set to play white tees. I'm not sure why there is only Major and Daily. Granted I would think the Ironwood falls someplace in between the two but closer to Major.

A bit of work was done at Moraine this evening. The blue tee on hole 10 was fixed (flattened) and a gravel apron was laid down to help prevent erosion. Scott Hartle was able to unlock 17 and move the pin into the c-placement. The course is now set up in Ironwood Open layout which will be contested at this weekend's Lakeview Course Championship.
I will be working at Moraine on Wednesday evening if anyone is available and wants to help out. The focus will be working on hole 16's blue and white tees. 5:00 pm-ish if you're interested.

Only 24 spots left and the +$10 deadline is approaching quickly! There are alot of local names I had expected to see on there that must be snoozing. Folks need to sign up or be left out.
Pro Women from the blues, can I expect to see advanced and intermediate women from the whites then?

Since Jen is the only Advanced Female signed up she'll probably have to move to Open or play intermediate men. I don't think she can move into the intermediate women division...Not sure what her rating is. But the intermediate women are definitely playing Whites, just like the Intermediate Men.

Nobody showed up to work last night so we (me, myself and I) decided to focus on hole 14. All three Fly Pads were lifted, low spots filled, smoothed and then tamped flat. Much improved for sure. The tees look (and feel) great!
16's blue and white tees may or may not be finished before the Ironwood. It all depends on whether or not we have players who volunteer to do the work.

Jerry you are fighting a good fight. Unfortunately these tees are going to need constant maintenence from us. And I was at Schenley league.
gotcha
Apr 08 2010, 01:01 PM
I wouldn't say the pads are going to need constant maintenance, just periodic maintenance. Remember, our plate tamper was out of commission during the final pad installation so some of those tees weren't even tamped before we laid down rubber. Many of those were simply raked somewhat level by hand before throwing the pads down. Now, after the freeze/thaw cycle from late winter/early spring, those particular pads really show unevenness.

Seriously, thanks to everyone who has helped out on this course and our other courses......not only the folks who work like mules, but "thanks" to the player who simply bends over to pick up a piece of litter. Every bit helps.
