Well folks, you asked for it, you got it. The San Antonio Disc Club is planning a 2010 Alamo Disc Series. The series combines both PDGA sanctioned events and non-sanctioned events culminating is a series finale in December.

Right now there at 6 events planned. 5 qualifying events and 1 finale. I am in discussions with other groups about the possibility of adding other qualifying events. Those details should be available soon.

The first event is January 16th, the NIGHTMARE @ NANI!

I've created a website to communicate all the goings on for the series. Please visit it regularly as this will be the best place to get the most up to date information on the series.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

I am putting together an estimate for the total year's disc order from Innova and Discraft. What discs do people want?

Don't say Katana or Nuke as those are only available as special orders for now. I think the Katana will be released for tournaments first as a pro plastic and then as Champion later this year.

For Innova:
Can't go wrong with TeeBirds, Rancho Rocs, and KC Aviars.
Oh, and Champ Monsters plz :D

For Discraft:
Z Stalkers, Z Wasps, Z Preds, X Focus

I'm with the Teebirds and Rocs and I know people love the Aviars! Destroyers, Wraiths...

AND I HAVE TO THROW THIS IN (even though I'm 1 outta maybe 4 players in the world who still throw them) CFR VIPER!!! I love this disc.... yeah, yeah laugh all you want. That disc is MONEY!!!

Wasps and Challengers (Z Plastic is the only way to go of course, IMO), The Stalker could be the best disc since the Buzzz... Surge, Flash

Discraft:
1st run esp surge 171-172

if you can't find those then they don't have to be 1st run just as long as they are not flex...

Oh and Innova: Star Valks and Flat Top Rocs old plastic if possible heard they still make them... :)

FYI ... Champ Monsters and CFR Vipers are not available.

Due to the fact that we are west of the Mississippi we have to order from Innova West and can't order from Innova East. They have different stocks of inventory so some things shown on their website (CFR Viper) are not available to us. Of course I'll still ask :D

There's no way to get regular Star, Pro, or DX Rocs?

Otherwise I'd probably swap that out for the Max or Banshee. Just my $.02

i know a couple of people who throw classic rocs, including me. imo, they are the most controllable/relliable of all the rocs, but i can only find them in dx plastic. you give me a champion or star and i'm sold. personally, i think it would be a great idea to get some of the lesser known discs as cfr. maybe one out of four. especially the beginner friendly ones.(like the 09 bmo had archangels. i've thrown them, they are a nice controllable disc, but many people that i know or have seen on the course have never even heard of them.)

NEW QUALIFYING EVENT ADDED
In a continuing partnership between 3rd Coast & SADC, 3rd Coast has agreed to make the Gonzalez Open a qualifying event for the 2010 Alamo Disc Series. The Gonzalez Open is a 2 day, B-Tier event.

SCHEDULE CHANGE
To avoid a conflict with the Red Rock Show (tournament near Red Rock, TX) the Alamo City Open has moved to May 1, 2010. Also, since there where no plans to run the San Antonio Open (formerly the San Antonio Bud Open) and it is the longer tenured event, the event name has changed to the San Antonio Open. The tournament will be played at Pearsall Park. See the 2010 Alamo Disc Series Schedule (http://www.sanantoniodiscclub.com/schedule.htm) for full details.

Thanks for supporting the 2010 Alamo Disc Series presented by DiscGolfStation.com (http://www.discgolfstation.com)

In case everyone didn't hear the big news is ...

First, plans are to make the Series Final an A-Tier, at least for the Open division, still TBD for the Am divisions. That means a minimum of $1500 added cash to the Open purses. I am estimating that total we'll be adding around $3500 to the event

We really want to try and attract some world class Open players to come enjoy Texas in December, like it was meant to be. For that reason we are partnering with the Piney Woods Pro Am Tournament by structuring our events on back to back weekends. Our plan is that top level players may be more inclined to come down south after Thanksgiving if there are A tier tourneys on back to back to weekends.

Secondly, FlyInk has agreed to sign on as the PRESENTING SPONSOR for the event by supporting us with a majority of the added cash.

How do you handle points for players who play in different divisions during the series?
For example, Mike M. has won Rec twice and finished 4th in Intermediate once.
I see in the standings that he's listed separately in the points standings for both divisions. Is there no way to combine points?

Not starting a controversy, just asking.:)

For the Men's Divisions you earn points for the division you play in. You'll notice that Rick Perez is in the top 10 in both Rec and Int. Can't share points between them as that wouldn't be fair.

For the Women's divisions I combined them into one Am Women's division since there has only been players in one Am Women's division at each tourney. Didn't seem fair to penalize M Gomez since she only played where where players.

You know.. I thought about the points after I signed up and played Rec out at Boerne... I figured it would be different because of the divisions. I will more than likely play Interm. for the rest of the torunys. I like playing with better players and I am gunning to beat Joel one of these days. Plus it's cool to see newer players get a shot at winning something...

How about a Novice division next year Scott?!? Is there such a thing?

Why do so few TD's offer the novice division? I know it's a pretty new addition to the PDGA divisions. Wouldn't it bring out the new players to tournaments though?

My personal take is that it isn't needed. The Rec division is great starting point. In Rec, you play mostly for fun, at least that should be the primary driver for playing that division. Also it isn't about some "novice" level player donating in that division. You can't be donator at the ReC level. Hopefully players at that level feel that they are getting a value out of the tourney beyond just trying to win plastic. As the name implies the Rec division is just that, recreational. If you are playing for competition and really want to compete at a high level then you need to start the process of moving up to Adv or Open. Plus adding another division just makes more work for the TD.

All that said if there was a lot of interest I'd likely offer it, but in 3 years of running tourneys I've had 2 people ask about the Novice division.

Good points JC...

The thing I notice from people who play a lot of Tourny's and people just starting is the etiquette knowledge. We had a guy on the Interm. card who really should not have been in that division. No knowlege of etiquette what so ever.... it was distracting and you (I) expect better in that division... Rec is where you start... Intem is where you play...
(My opinion olny)

*I am not knocking Rec! The guys that play Rec kick my butt every Weds night! They are not who I am refering to.. just stating a point... not trying to offend anyone*
