I have recently switched every one of my midrange over to discraft(meteor,Hawk,Wasp,Drone) I feel currently that this is discrafts strong point in the industry. I feel that Innova's strong point is in their drivers. And I feel that gateways strong point is in their putters. Of course each company has had great success in these catagories but I wish that they would shift some of their focus to other parts of the game. Ex. Discraft making more competitive drivers that compete with the boss and destroyers.. Innova making more midranges that compete with the buzz/meteor... and Gateway making more fairways that compete with the teebirds/cyclones.

Please feel free to discuss your opinions. I just think that instead of discraft doing ace races every year with a new midrange they should do something that FORCES them to put out some kind of new driver. And innova should do some kind of ace race instead.

I find that the Surge, Force, and Avenger are very capable drivers and can easily match up against anything Innova has. Even the Crush and Surge SS can hold their own. That is five discs right there. Granted Innova has more in the driver category that can be considered "staples" in anyone's bag. I throw a mixed bag but I find I usually turn to Discraft first before Innova. I have the Boss and Xcaliber has my bombers, the Force and Destroyer share the same spot in the bag, but I actually have a spot for the Crush and Surge that I could not find an Innova disc to fill.

I do agree with you about the Midranges and Putters. Three of my four midranges are Discraft and I use a Wizard for putting.

Look at Lat64 too; they have released a slew of new drivers that are top notch.

As far as discraft drives go I do agree that the surge and force are great discs and do accasionally throw them. But I just dont feel that discraft has a go to bomb disc like the boss. And innova has destroyers, echo wraiths, xcalibers, boss's, and grooves. I have heard the force being compared to every single one of these discs as an equal. But that either means the force comes in many shapes and stabilities or that the force is the all out go to driver. I choose the first option. I just would like to see discraft come out with a boss type driver and innova come out with some decent midrange thats not using the letters R-O-C.

I would really like to try some the new lattitude 64 drivers they look very tasty and my mouth has def been watering over the possibilities. I just am a big fan of the grippier star like plastic as my hands do sweat a lot, making it very tough to grip champ like plastic. Hopefully I will get my hands on some soon.

Throw in the Venom to compete against the Xcal(on sidearms) and I agree 100%. No way I could play a round without the three you mentioned though.

Why come out with new molds every year Innovas Roc is the best thing on the market. It's consitent easy to learn and goes where you throw it they beat nicely. Spider comes to mind in Innovas mids and Gators. You want less stable go to Cobras Stingrays. To say a company dosen't do much in one catagory of disc is a bit closed minded. Maybe it's cuz you don't like Innovas Mids or Gateways drivers. But I feel most Co. out there have a good selction of discs in Mids,Putters and Drivers its just personal preference

I'd agree with what was said about innova drivers, discraft mids, and gateway putters. I haven't thrown a lot of discraft mids except for a z wasp, but am wanting to give a buzz a shot. I've always been partial to a gremlin for midrange shots, but am slowly getting used to the wider diameter midranges. Gateway has some nice putter molds out, but I've had the best luck throwing a pro rhyno off of the tee. Just my thoughts.

Chris, come to the USDGC this year. Andrew switched to all Discraft a while back. He thinks all Discraft disc are better he loves the drivers, Midranges, and putter. He will be glade to help you. besides it's been forever since you have seen him play.

Hope to see you soon.

I dont really feel that my comments are close minded. I just find it silly that if I want a decent midrange in the innova line up I have to beat it in to make it fly the way I want it too. Yes the Roc is amazing I am not denying that but Compared to discraft innova has nothing like the buzz and meteor. I have tried the understable mids of innova and there is no comparison in the amount of glide that the meteor gives you. But I am also saying that discraft just has nothing that comes close to the boss.

On a straight and level throw at the power needed to make the Boss fly as it should, you are right that I could not find anything in the Discraft lineup to match it. At least for me however, both my Champ and Star Boss get no more than 15 feet of distance over my Force. I use mainly the Boss for that extra distance and that it can handle a little more torque before doing something stupid, but with a good hyzer flip I can get my Crush and Surge out to nearly identical distances.

Again, head to head, comparing strictly flight and speed, Discraft is lacking that disc. Early this year, back in March I believe, Discraft had a prototype grooved disc that was nearly identical to Innova's Groove. It was a little more stable than the Groove but just a tad under the Boss. Discraft has obviously looked into producing a Boss type disc but apparently these were never put into production. I do not think even the prototype is currently PDGA legal so it just sits at home instead of in my tournament bag.

With the proper technique and looking strictly at results, I do not think Discraft is really lacking anything. The potential distance of the Boss aside, any disc in the Discraft lineup can match up within anything in the Innova lineup if thrown properly (key word).

As for Lat64, I loved the Striker to begin the year but it has become too unpredictable for me. The Riot can match up distance and control with any disc on the market if it were not for the fact that it has a tendency to slip out of your hands if you do not grip it right. The Vision is like a faster Sidewinder or a slower Monarch. The Blitz however, is a slightly more stable version of the Boss (despite its grooved underside). It gets nearly the same distance, is just as fast, and I believe penetrates the wind better without getting silly over or understable.

Lastly, I think Innova does have an okay selection of midranges outside of the Roc. The Shark is a great approach for lower powered players. The Gator is great for powering out of trouble. The Cro has great glide, almost like a more stable version of the Comet. I have no idea about the Kite or Skeeter, so I do not know if anything matches up with the Meteor. To back you up though, my four midranges are Drone, Cro, Buzzz, and Meteor.

If you could not tell, for the previous two years I was Discraft only and secretly wished they would sponsor me (considering the amount of money I spent on their discs and word of mouth I was passing along). This year I have seen the advantages of a mixed bag and have tried almost everything on the market.
