Ladies, I need a little help. I run a disc golf club in London , England and have been teaching boys and men with some success for the last 4 years.

we have been trying to encourage more ladies to join us and have had a little success. Now that we have got a few ladies coming to join us I find that I have one training issue which I am stumbling on each and every time.

When teaching the backhand throw, which is where I start with all new players, I have no problems with the grip and setup. Where I have a problem is when I try to describe and demonstrate the actual throw and followthrough WITH POWER. Boys seem to get the idea of whipping the arm through the shot where I find that the girls and ladies find this element tricky to grasp. they tell me they get the theory but have trouble putting it into practice.

The odd thing is that when I asked a visiting lady to demonstrate to 2 of the female members, they got it immediately and throw beautifully.

So, please can you help me. I am very frustrated at my inability to pass on this technique, and the ladies that I teach become frustrated golfers as although the shape of throw can be fantastic they are not getting the distance they see their male counterparts are achieving.

I'm a right handed back handed player. The 2 things that have helped add the most distance to my drive (other than being from Round Rock, TX) were having someone really explain the idea of an S shot & how to use my lower body. S shot - releasing the disc to the left of my desired drive line with snap - pretty hard to get when you're new (why would I aim left when all my shots go that way at the end?). I ended up "getting it" when a VERY patient instructor held my disc on my reach back & had me drive while pulling it from his hand. It really helped me get the concept of follow thru & snap. Seems silly - but it helped kill the heizer only & added an S shot & eventually a great anheizer to my game. The 2nd - & having someone teach me to use the most powerful area a woman has (her hips) with every shot. A woman can't throw like a man, we're not built the same - our arm just wont do it alone (at least not for long). Coiling like a spring, starting with your strength focus on your left foot & thigh, & realizing that all your power is coming from you left leg - not you right arm - & transferring that power thru you hips & out your right arm into you drive. The closer you keep all yourself, the more momentum you get upon release - similar to an ice skater spinning; they keep their arms in close to go very fast & when they're ready to stop, they bring their arm out adding more resistance. Best of luck & woo hoo for you working to bring more ladies to our game. Love to see some of them @ the ladies only events we have here in the states - USWDGC Quad Cities this year, La Vie En Rose Florida, & of course the Texas Women's Championship (here in ROUND ROCK baby) as well as many others coming on board.

Hey lala... thats geneous... i can see how holding onto the disc at the end of backswing would work... the players has to apply force to pull it away and therefore getting the feel... I will be trying the technique this weekend. Thank you so much.

I am sure the girls would love to get over to your tourneys... its a bit of a trek from the UK tho!!!

Thanks again

Much love:)
