A group of friends play a weekly friendly game. No $$$ but we do play for a pass around trophy. If you win the trophy 3 weeks in a row you get to sign it. So far no one has signed it as we have a group that are very closy matched in play. We have one rule when you tie with the previous trophy leader the tie breaker goes to the trophy holder. Sometimes though there is a tie without the trophy holder in the lead group and we need to have a quick tie breaker.

The tie breaker has to be quick since we play after work and the sun is going down after the final hole. In the past we have played CTP or a few select holes. I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas for good quick tie breakers between 2-3 players. We plan on eventually making a weekly $$$ mini once our new course is built and want to make some official tie breaking rules now so there will be no questions once those type of games occur.

If the tied players are on the same card, you can call that CTP on their drives on the last hole will break the tie if they end up tied. That saves doing an extra CTP.

Good idea. One thing I do not like about CTP is we have a couple of players that have a cannon arm while others do not. Was hoping to keep it as fair as possible. I believe in the past the CTP tie breaker we used the shorter tee box since it was well within the range of all players.

The unwritten rule in setting up any CTP is that everyone who is allowed to make a throw should be able to reach it. When we use CTPs for tiebreaks such as for informal skins, we usually give each player two throws.

Pre-select 2-3 holes. If there is a tie, go back and look at the card to see who had the lowest score on those holes in order. First one to have the lowest score on a pre-selected hole wins or just add the total score for those selected holes and the lowest score wins.

If you really want to end it quickly, just look back on most recent holes. Whoever would tee first on the 19th hole, is the winner.

In a close match, this puts some added weight on the last few holes. Thus a little added pressure on them. A person 1 stroke behind entering the 16th hole, who picks up that stroke, not only ties for 1st, but puts himself in the position of winning the tiebreaker if the scores hold throught he 18th.
