My buddy Nolan called me and papa Grider is in the hospital in bad shape.
Diabetes, bad infection and failing kidneys. Papa Grider is a good man and could use everyone's prayers.

Very sorry and sad to hear that...my thoughts and prayers are with him and the family. I have a story about him...we played together in the Carollton Open about 10 years ago and I was on his card when he got his first ever Ace! At that time he had been playing about 20 years with no aces. Of course my comments to him were "I'm glad that you waiting 20 years for me to be on your card for this!"...he gave me the Texas bird and a big smile in return. :D

Wow, I will be praying for the Grider family. I use to pay with "Papa" Grider back in the days of the Irving Disc Sports Association at Fritz park. He was a good friend and one of the reasons he came out to play in Carrollton when he hit that ace.
It was not that long ago I saw him out at a tournament rooting on his kids. (well, it was 2 years ago from this point)
Please keep us informed of his status and lets hope/pray for a full recovery.

McKinney hospital ...ICU
Nolan said that dad may have had a minor heart attack earlier in the week and they are going to stint his heart.
For now they are fighting the infection and will work on the heart later. Papa Grider is not out the woods but they have identified his issue and are addressing them.
If my schedule allows I will be heading up there this Friday, I will keep people posted. Keep the family in your prayers!

Just finishing talking to his wife and he is in stable condition. They will be moving him out of ICU as soon as they have a bed available. Skip and me are hoping to get out there and see him either today or tomorrow....he is not out of the woods yet so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Willy and I drove out to see the big guy today, and even though he's still in ICU, he's doing better. Nurse said he'll be in ICU thru tomorrow and then they will try to find him a private room. Take note, Vinnie, if he is still in ICU this weekend when you go by the visiting hours are 12-2, then 4-6, then 8-10. If he's in a room by then you'll be able to see him at anytime during the day.
He seems in good spirits and was surprised to see us. I know Nelda has been thru the ringer and we were able to cheer her up a little while we waited for the big hand to hit the four. They won't even let her in unless it's during those visiting hours. He has a long haul with a two week expected stay and then an IV maintained for the next six weeks at home. One of his problems is the same one I have and I was quick to point out that I was near death in the hospital a couple of months ago and now I'm doing better than ever. I'm throwing farther than Nolan or Mike and taking over the top pro spot in the state, all because I followed my doctor's instuctions. So remind him, Nolan and Mike, that with a little dedication, he too can be like me. Do what the doctor's say, James. See you soon.
