I made sure to thank the fire fighters using the park as their refuge (staging area) for keeping the homes and the park safe from flames! If you know a firefighter, thank them!!!!

I'm afraid that Veteran's Park is in danger again today. I just Google Earthed some of the streets that people said they were evacuated from and they are adjacent to the park.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those folks - fires suck.

Hey Everyone - just an update on Sylmar...the permanent course lost some trees due to the winds, no fire damage; lost a practice basket due to a fallen limb - so we were pretty lucky on that front. Unfortunately, the upper course for the Summertime Open did not fare so well. Several of the upper holes were wiped out by the flames, but we have a lot of time and a lot of drive to do what we can to still pull of a championship caliber course up top.

On a personal note, the homes of Gary and Bamba are safe (amazing given their proximity to the burn areas), though some of their neighbors weren't so fortunate. Our prayers go out to those that lost their homes, and our gratitude for those that fought, and are continuing to fight, to save lives and property in all the California fires.

i'm glad so much survived. am thinking about going up there tomorrow for a round or two - i guess it's back open?

(even before the fires, i drove out about 2 months ago and was told the park was shut b/c there was no water)

The county has said Wednesday, 11/26 will be the day that the park reopens. They have told us like 4 other dates since the fire, so it remains to be seen what actually happens. Due to the federal/local arson investigation, they really have the park on lock down.

thanks for posting lasher, unfortly i saw the message too late and wasted a drive out there on tuesday. (i was assuming since people were saying it was OK, that it must also be OK to play - wrong.)
park guy i talked to said maybe thursday, but considering the dangers the rain will now pose, i doubt that.
