Carl has snapped his humerus muscle, with 3 holes remaining on the 2nd day of the Norcal Championships. WTG Buddy!
so does everyone know about Carl's attempted record breaking year of the total number of tournaments played in by a San Diegian?!
He's not going to stop! My respect and admiration goes out to his determination and mental toughness. The Beanie will never die.
Heal quick Carl! I can't wait to see you back on the course, playing LEFTY!~

I just found this thread. First I would like to say thanks to everybody who has been supportive of me througout this situation, as the love from my friends and competitors is what helped me out through the tough times during the recovery.

I'll start from my return to San Diego. I got home and immediately saw my physican who recommended that I see Dr. Chris Pallia, a sports doctor who has worked on (among others) Junior Seau and former World Champ and DG Legend Snapper Pierson. He recommended that we see how the bone sets itself over the following week before it is known if surgery is necessary. He lets me know that either way, I should return to Disc Golf at full strength in less than 6 months. This is huge for me mentally, because doctors in sac-town were telling me it would be 6 months before I could use my arm again and that my career as a disc golfer may be threatened. Surgery ended up being necessary and was conducted a week later as the bone was not re-setting itself properly. 3 tiny screws were put in my arm and it has been healing rather quickly ever since.

I started physical therapy in the middle of November and I have been very dedicated and committed to my rehab. The doctor cleared me to begin putting on Dec.1, and he expects to clear me to play again on Dec. 29. I will then be on light duty for the next 4-6 weeks (I won't play more than twice a week in that time and the first two weeks I think I will just play short courses and not throw drivers) before I make my return to the tour. I do not plan to rush it and I have not been throwing lefty. I have completely changed my diet and am now taking vitamins and suppliments as well.

I may or may not be healthy enough to play events in January and February, but this I can say for sure: I will return in time to play the Gentlemen's Club Challenge, The Memorial, and to make my return to NorCal in the St. Patrick's Classic. Was considering bumping to Pro for 09 before I snapped my arm after finishing in the top 50 in tour points for ams for 08, but after doing so I will play am in most events at least until after Worlds. Hoping to play as many A-tiers and Majors as possible, including US Amateur, Beaver State, Bowling Green Am, Masters Cup and the NorCal Championships (to redeem myself by conquering the course that I snapped my arm on). Thanks again to everyone for all the love. And be ready, because the Beanieman will be back towards the top of the leaderboard at a Sanctioned Event near you in 2009.
