a landing zone has been reassigned as an orchard. so now its a jail. thats ok, peaches and apples and pears are perfect in that space.

but the hole needs to be reconfigured.

the orignal theory at the tee was a solid, long, straight drive up a tunnel lane. from the Gs: 300' forward, +10' elev, 30' width to play with. that clears the crest of the lane, and the natural fade to the left at the end of the flight used what is now the orchard area for the landing zone.

in the new configuration with the orchard in the landing zone, even a slight fade will be severely punished. the tunnel shot up the hill is really nice, but at its current length requiring no fade/hyzer at the end may be too much to ask.

the proposed solution is simply to move the tee forward, so the expected tee shot ends up comfortably over the crest. this shot must NOT fade/hyzer at the end... so the $64K question becomes...

what distance is appropriate for the following shot conditions:

1. 30-40' wide
2. +30:1 grade
3. covered (think tree-lined single-lane dirt road), 30-50' canopy
4. absolutely straight line up the fairway
5. must have reasonable chance to hold a slight annie, even after cresting the tunnel.

thanks for any input...

(ps... the rest of the hole does not impact this design decision)

figuring 3 feet of distance for each foot of elevation gives an effective distance of 330 to the crest.

depends on what level you're designing for but i would think something in the area of 280-290 would be good for everyday play. taking out the 30 feet for the elevation would give you 250-260 in actual distance.

the tee in question is for the Golds. the Blues are also on this lane, so we'll probably do the same thing to that one. whites and red are coming from different directions, so those are unaffected.

thanks fo rthe numbers... i'll make sure the 280-290 range gets a good look.

How about pulling the tees back and clearing out a new 'fade zone' prior to the crest?

But, if you're talking about Gold tees, a gold player should EASILY be able to throw a tightrope shot that goes straight for 300', and even easier to put a slight anny on it with a buzzz or similar midrange. Maybe just clearly ID the new 'jail grove' on your tee sign so players know to throw straight.
