Heard this today from Alan Hansen Begg, co-founder of DGTV. His son Brett, who played well at Worlds in Advanced, was in a bad accident.
"It's bad. His friend died. Brett is in intensive care at HCMC. He has a bad head injury. Please send him your love and help him recover. We are updating a page at a website set up for situations like this called: www.caringbridge.org/visit/bretthansenbegg (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/bretthansenbegg) "

Great news this morning...
"Greta and I stayed up way too late last night moving Brett's posters and stuff into his new area... we were in our room, trying to motivate for another long day in the PICU...when...a knock at the door! Greta sprang up like a jack-in-the-box and found Nurse Kristie at the door.
She said 'Brett's supposedly following commands, you might want to come see this'
We scrambled around like we were on fire. Greta held my hand as we scurried down the hall. When we got to the room, Sue the Occupational Therapist was there, Nurse Kendall and Nurse-in-training Sara.
They were getting ready to give Brett a bath, and when they saw him give a THUMBS UP they decided to get him SITTING UP!
When he got propped up his head slumped down and Sue held it up, but kept telling him to use his neck to hold his head up...he was 'sitting' for about 4-5 minutes. They do this to get him to remember what it's like to be upright. After 19 days on his back, he may have forgotten.
We talked to him and finally were able to give him a proper hug.
IT WAS GREAT.
After a bit, Kendall asked him to give us the thumbs up... he moved his thumb just a little, but we all exploded into shrieking and hollering and because there was no doubt that he heard and followed that command.
I am just getting some coffee and running back in there. talk to you soon,
alan"

Please do whatever you can to help the Beggs. I know it's not a lot, but at last weekend's Floodplain Open in Moorhead, MN, TD Joey Schmit took out .50 from everyone's entry fee and will be sending the $54 to help with whatever they need it for. With all of the tourneys going on every weekend, if everyone would do something similar, it would add up fast and help in many ways.
Great to hear the progress that Brett is making and we all hope it continues daily.

Thanks Blase, thanks Joey, and thanks to everyone who have been praying for Brett over the last few weeks.
Greta posted this recently:
yes it's a mouthful!!!!!!!!!! it's also the web link that sweetie-peetie samantha mies called me about today. samantha, this website-creating-brett-loving-dynamo, has created this website and fundraising effort to support brett's fight for the healing of his brain and his recovery!! please go to the link and check it out!!!! i just did!! greta"
There is a walk for the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota on October 4th at Como Park (St. Paul, MN). I already have a few sponsors for the walk, but would love to have even more, especially from the disc golf community. I know these are hard times so please don't feel bad if you're not able to sponsor me; however, please keep Brett and the Hansen-Begg family in your thoughts and prayers. All the money I raise for this walk will go directly to Al and Greta in this time of need. Please PM or email me at
[email protected] if interested. $5, $10...it doesn't matter...a little goes a long way.
Thanks,
Brad

Many of you follow the Carringbridge site where Brett's mother posts updates daily, for those of you who are not, this is what Mom posted today:
"brett rocked the h-e-doublehockeysticks out of pt(physical therapy) today!!!!! omg- he stood 5 times (In the standing machine) and helped a lot every time and the goal was for him to help 2 out of 5 times. then he moved both legs- bent and straightened on cue from the therapists. then he rolled over with moderate assistance. "
Recap from the last few days....Brett has also started to chew solid foods on his own. He responds with eye movements and is starting to makes choices on what he would prefer to try to eat.
Thank you to all for the positive energy and thoughts, Its really showing.

I got to spend about half an hour with Brett this past Saturday at Kaposia. Even though I wasn't able to play, I decided to go and help out with the event (there was a keg). Alan was pulling him in a sled with some help from the other people in the group. They had about 5 holes left and decided to get Brett in the car to warm up a little.
He looked really good and was communicating via his keyboard. It was awesome to get to spend some time with him again.

That was just too cool of you guys. I sure he loved being out on the course even though he is unable to play.

Haha... and I was "in trouble" for informing Brett of he event he was at. His dad's dedication and willingness to pull him in the sled for the round shows how dedicated of a dad he is! Brett actually played hole 1 before the round started! He took a 40-something on the hole, but has improved to 16s as of lately!
