Hey Folks - I am putting together a short list of "Disc Golf Adventure" courses (thinking of doing an article with the list and some pix). The courses/places on the list should have some combo of the following (these criteria are not firmly set yet - feel free to advise/revise):
- Great natural beauty
- not particularly easy courses
- if they are within 2 hours drive of good sized cities they will have a better chance of getting on the list
- a feeling of "adventure" in the going there and playing the course helps
- near great small towns can help?
- have to be in the ground now (sorry Geronimo, NM and Boylan Farms and Gran Canyon, FL etc.)
possibles on the list so far are:
- Inn at Lucky Mud, WA
- Sunrise @ Mtn. High. CA
- Lake Casitas, CA
- Apsen, CO
- 10-3 @ Crested Butte, CO
- Pender Island
- The Sugarbush Resort, Warren, VT
- The Magnolia Disc Golf Course @ The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park
Some of these are courses that I have personally played that might fit the bill - others have been added by some members if our Course Design group (if you think some don't belong on the list - let me know)
Ski Resort courses have an inside track as do courses in beautiful places that have some good lodging or camping right there. Possibles also include some highly rated courses (DeLaveaga, CA and Warwick, NY and Highbridge, WI?)
Please add courses that you feel are warranted and a brief description of why you think that they belong on the short list of "Disc Golf Adventure" courses. {Also - please feel free to comment and expand/expound on the criteria). It would be nice to have all sections of North America and some Intl. courses represented.
Hey - subjective? Of course! For instance - Sunrise may be more of an adventure for a flat lander than for someone from CO that is used to mtn. courses - but it helps that it so near to the LA area. Casitas is less of an adventure if you live in Ventura. Aspen is at the top of a BIG Mountain - but I bet there are better designed mtn. courses around. I challenge anyone to play Lucky Mud and tell me that it does not belong on the list.
Convince me that your choices belong on the short list of "Disc Golf Adventure" courses.
Please email me at an address very close to ctowne "at" pdga.com with your input.
Thanks, Cliff Towne
