Since I have moved near the south side of the Atl, I have been reintroduced to my younger days and seem to be completely surrounded by the Ghetto. I have traveled nearly the entire country and I have a list of my favorite Ghetto's that I have had the fortune to visit.

It's in Poll form just in case you think your ghetto should be higher on the list.

This POLL is brought to you in honor of fellow random poll developer but is now serving a MB suspension ......Big Fella, aka the Commish.....MC!!!! <---His vote would be The Nasty Natti.

I haven't made it to Northern California except for Tahoe, but I hear that Oakland has a fabulous Ghetto, I'm sorry I left a lot of Cali off, but Inglewood was enough Ghetto for the entire SoCal area. My cracker [censored] was walking through there about 1 in the morning after a 3 mile walk from my hotel to Hollywood Park Casino .....whewww

What about the aree surrounding Boyd Hill Park in Rock Hill. I've been out there late at night and had encounters with some homies coming out the woodwork.

OHHHHH That was a definite accident leaving off New OrLEANS, how could I forget that one. After Katrina Court and I drove through there going to try and spend some money in the town, but I couldn't get out of there fast enough.....whew

I couldn't find the right Virginia city to add on there....Richmond and Roanoke came to mind but I have never stayed in the areas to rally give a fair judgement.

richmond was national muder per capita leader for a few years while i was living there- definitely WAY more 'hood there than roanoke. portsmouth is a sh*thole too but not big enough for national recognition.

the thing that makes n'awlins special is the way the ghetto and the rich people are right next to each other, like shrimp and andouille in a big old gumbo.

I'm really surprised that Houston's 5th ward doesn't make the lists. Where's our Texas Pride!

Harpers wrote a nice little piece on the neighborhood with the highest crime rate per capita... It's Congress. :)

This reminds me of New York. You'd be in a rich neighborhood, cross the street and you'd be lookin' over your shoulder. Strangest feeling in the world. Even weirder was riding the subway there. You'd go one stop and you were in one world, then the next stop and it would be completely different. Truly intimidating.

I'll never forget going to Detroit in 1994 to see the Grateful Dead in Auburn Hills. No offense to any of you Michiganers, but the Motor City is one scary place, espically after midnight.

The New Orleans projects seemed to go on for miles. I'd never seen anything like it. I kept thinking, "It's got to end soon." Oakland may be rough but it is a relatively small area. Bayview/Hunter's Point in S.F. Has a liquor store on every corner...classic ghetto.

Detroit's a buncha pussycats. Basically any crime/gangs bad enough that they run it out of town winds up down here in Toledo. If you don't live in a township outside of Toledo proper, you live in a trash neighborhood no matter where in Toledo you live.

here's an interesting read from july's atlantic monthly (http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/memphis-crime). it basically outlines how high crime areas have followed the spread of section 8 housing and the problems associated with it. this article focuses on memphis. while poverty/crime used to be centralized in projects so was access to public services and police monitoring. it also describes an interesting take on rising crime rates due to destruction of "communities" that were supported by projects.

these are the types of studies that liberal politicians like to quash/ignore because it doesn't bode them well in the polls.
