I'll be driving through there this weekend and will have time to play a round (or two) Saturday morning but I can't decide which course to play.

Any recommendations?

depends on what part of Houston- SW Houston- Quail Valley, North Houston- Spring Valley or Oak Meadows, Central Houston- Mazzola

It could easily end up being an hour and a half excursion depending on where you're going to be.

Oak Meadow is off the board at the moment, and closed to outside play. Hopefully this is not a permanent decision by the homeowners.

Tell me about it. I live split the difference of there and Moffit. Usually a no brainer on where to go.

I'll actually be staying in West Columbia, but I don't mind another hour+ drive if the course is worth it.

Probably not. Spring Valley is your best bet though.

If your up early join me for some .25 cent skins at the pitch & putt at Bear Branch in The Woodlands.
7:30 tee off.
Post here if you going to make it.

Thanks for the invite, unfortunately I think that's going to be a bit too early for me to make it.

Spring Valley certainly looks like a course I'll enjoy and I think I'll drive up there once I get moving in the morning. Thanks for all your suggestions, I'll be sure to give you on my opinion of the course after I've played a round.

That is one of the course I have played in H-Town, and I would recommend it.

It's loaded with shade, and we all know how important that is in the hot days ahead.

A must play course.

Great course!! Thanks for the recommendation!

The finesse 18 took it's toll, I only managed 3 birdies throughout those holes and more than a few of them were happy to stick me on with a 5. The maps and tee signs are great, but there are still a few blind shots that leave you guessing as to where the basket will be. I was also happy to note that while there is plenty of rough OB and water hazards, it's fairly difficult to lose a disc.

Great course, I'm sure I'll be back again.

Glad you didn't lose a disc...easy to do out there. Also not easy navigating for the first time - glad you liked it.
You can take a 5 or higher on almost any hole out there!

I'll be in town this weekend to watch the Cardinals smash the Stors on Saturday. I want to play somewhere on Sunday. What course (other than those used for TX States) should I play?

On a side note, hope some of you Houstonians can make it up the weekend of the 21st for the SA Bud Open!

ThePatrick

We would be there for the bud open if we weren't headed to B'ham for the Atier there. And the 'Stros will hopefully take the
'W. We don't have to worry about Pujols rattling Lidge anymore.

Fast foward to fall 2008 - Jack Brooks Park Memorial Course at 5800' will be rated the best course in town.

The wait is over, the parks dept. gave us the long awaited "GO" on the design.

Wanta be a part of it, come out June 14th with a saw.

40 min from Downtown and 20min from Bass.

And 20 minutes from the coast.

Houston area is finally getting the type of course this area has needed for years. Saturday 8am... Bring tools of destruction, or just gloves and water.

5 holes of the future "best course in the Houston area" have been installed.

Come check them out. Admission cost is cheap. One hour behind the chain saw or time pulling Yaupon to the chipping station. A small price to pay to play the coolest course around.

Congrats on the progress Jake! Can't wait to head down to check it out.

I'll be in Tyler too! SuperD should move it to the 20th so it doesn;t conflict as much. Then again PWO will probably fill so they will both probably have plenty of players.

I talked to him this morning and it looks like he is going to have to cancel the Dec. 6th tournament :(. Everyone that I have talked to from Central TX area are not going to play PWO so we thought that it would be ok. Good Luck at the Piney Woods Open Matt! and Happy Turkey Day to the Houston crew.
