Hey Folks,

The P.O. Box seems to be filling up with entries earlier this year. I might be mistaken - could just be some early folks making sure they get in and grab one of the special Candy Destroyers that come with a Champion level membership to DISC. Anyway - thought that I would get the word out to those of you that want to play the Fling this year - might want to get your entry in early to avoid disappointment. Due to the efforts of a few of us the course is looking good up there! Download the flyer from socaldiscgolf.org.

I am looking forward to redeeming myself from the Ice Bowl and being your Fling XII advanced winner.

Carl,

Redemption can be had - if you can avoid getting "Chavezed" (those roll aways) too often. Our weed clearing crew has done a great job up at The Ridge and the course is almost ready for the Fling XII on May 17th.

You can now use the PDGA online signup option for the Fling (just turned on yesterday - $3.50 fee but oh so slick).

http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1207912877

If you see them, be sure to thank Dave Hadder, Andrew Choate, Greg Metallica, Nick Yermilov, Terry Dunn and Cliff Towne for recent help on the course.

Cliff...I noticed that the tournament will have 20 holes, are all 18 from the original course being used with 2 temps, or is it a different combination?

I've never played the course, but I'm going up next weekend to check it out and want to play what holes will be used in the tournament. Entry was sent yesterday...

Dave,

I would be more then happy to go through the tournament layout with you sometime soon. I have played it twice and know where the temps are. There are 17 permanent holes and 3 temporaries. It is a short course (comparable distance to Montiel short tees) but the temps make you carry drivers. If you want to meet up there I could do it sometime next week after I get back from Masters Cup. I think you could definately take the Open division there if you played the course a few times.

Carl has it correct. We will not play #11 and add A, B and C down on the grass around the picnic area for 20. A plays uphill (roller?) from the steps that lead down from the back of #8's basket. B plays from ( gotta go - sorry ) more later.

B plays from the upper grassy section to behind the green caged thing and C plays from below the playground area to near the trail up to hole #1. We will play tournament sequence on the holes; 1,2,3,4,5,6, skip to 9,10,12,13,14,15,16,17,18, skip to 7,8,A,B,C. Have fun and hope you avoid those famous Chavez Ridge rollaways!

Cliff, what holes are going to change positions between rounds? Is it going to be like the Ice Bowl, when I believe 2, 3, 5, and 14 changed position.

" I think you could definately take the Open division there if you played the course a few times. "

McBeth shot 18 down and i remember him not making too many great drives, he just canned almost every putt within 60 feet.
Bring your Buzz and putter Dave, and a driver/roller for 2 holes.

18 down is the score for 2 rounds from the Ice Bowl.
Next Sunday sounds nice. Set up the temp baskets and play the all the holes. My goal, ha!, is to shoot 18 down in 1 round!
I will settle for Par ;) the second round.

Carl,

My best guess on basket changes is 2,5,13,14,18. This will be in he Mad Hadder's hands....

Good. Glad to see that 13 will be changing, the long pin tends to tear people apart. What about hole 3 and the long pad on 4?

clifftowne
Apr 22 2008, 12:47 AM
Dave - got your entry.

Carl - 3 will most likely stay short both rounds. Basket changes on 2,5,13,14,18 will involve moving 4 baskets between rounds - I don't see any reason to move more than that but make no promises - Senor Hadder is the man on this - it will be his call. He might also use the lower pad on 4 for one round - but I suspect not.

Apr 28 2008, 06:45 PM
You'll add a driver for two of the temp holes. Paul played most of the round I saw with an Ontario Roc and an Aviar. He may have used a TeeBird on the two longish holes.

clifftowne
Apr 29 2008, 09:44 PM
2 will be long right one round - maybe a flippy midrange or driver (and a spotter? pay attention anyway).

12 long and 18 long take a driver for this noodle arm.

There was a fire near the Police Academy. Did it scorch any of the course?

No scorching at the course!

Dave Hadder will move baskets into most of the 1st round positions this weekend.

Still some spots left if you want to play. Fliers at socadiscgolf.org - or pay online from

http://www.pdga.com/schedule/index.php

click on the pen and ink icon next to the Fling (act now - I think I have Todd shutting that online option down on Tuesday).

I lost a white FLX challenger there yesterday! It's somewhere around the alternate pad for hole 1, I threw an errant shot on hole 6. If anyone finds it, contact me. Looks like some of the weeds have grown in on the hill. It should be a lot of fun!

Hey Beenieman,

Found the Challenger 60' directly below hole 6 pin by some trees. The basket was visible between two trees....
i missed the birdie.....nice disc though. I could meet you there
anytime after 3pm this week or early Sat morning.
Yea, could use some weedeater action up there.

We still have 10 spots left for any of you late breaking super discagates. Dave Hadder has the course marked out and ready AND Chris Carpenter found my Stratus up there! Life is good. See you Saturday morning at the Ridge.

Don't mail in any late entries. Either call me or sign up online before Todd shuts that down @ THU 5/15/08 8pm PST.

The tees on the temp holes will be the same most likely, but we reserve the right to alter as Senor Hadder sees fit.

I just wanted to thank Cliff Towne and Dave "The Mad" Hadder for once again putting on a quality event. They always seem to work hard to put on a good event, and it is appreciated. Congrats again to Brian Bowland for getting his first MA1 win, and in case anyone is curious, the roller worked. I manned up and threw it round 2, and it ended up 35 feet away after rolling as close as 15 feet away. Nearly had a jump putt deuce.

Thanks Cliff, the tourney was fun...Congrats to Chris Horn, he came out firing the second round and caught up to me by the 6th or 7th hole. I can't believe how many times I got chavezed that round, definitely a fun course though...The ratings feel a little low, especially the second round, that wind was pretty bad the first 10 holes. Do you think they will change?

DEVO
May 19 2008, 11:53 PM

Cent - if you mean will the ratings alter between now and when the results are official? I doubt it - none of the factors involved in the calculation (the scores) will change. Glad you had fun. Yes - those Chavez roll aways - it happen up there. I was blessed - a few bad drives but the putts went in.
