FYI CenTex - Ben Brook DGC is one of the best in the area. Great course design which incorporates water on 12 of the 18 holes. Very similar to Kyle DGC in design and distance with a creek running through the entire course. There is a mix of tunnel and open shots and the course actually has very little cedar (hell yeah!). I just posted the course on the PDGA Course Directory and it should be approved shortly. Here are the directions:
From Austin - take I35 North to FM1431. Turn left (west) and go to old 183. Turn right (north) on old 183 until you see the new HEB Grocery. Turn left (west) on FM2243 until Bagdad Rd. Turn right (north) on Bagdad - course is approx 2 miles on your right.
The boxes are shredded cedar and the course is a little hard to navigate - an experienced golfer should be able to make their way. Make the road trip - combine Ben Brook and Wilco into an all day affair. They're only about 12 minutes from each other.

it has not been in the ground very long and the city is still doing some work. but how about that leander rr area puts in 2-3 courses faster than manor can get in 1 :o

Add all those courses up and you still don't get a manor!

Steve you are wrong!
I like Manor......but if we add up benbrook, wilco and the rock.....you would have a N.T......try that anywhere else around here

I love Wilco, haven't played Ben Brook and the Rock....well it's long. If Williamson County will allow an NT to happen I would be first in line to play. I do think that Manor and Travis County would be more open to the idea though. All in all the courses in Central Texas have grown leaps and bounds over the last 2 years and I know of a few more in the works. I'm excited to play the Ben Brook course after hearing about it.

Is this Benbrook course any good?

huh, oh wait, Mike Leach is a pirate who made Toogood walk a plank for missing a big field goal.

I was told that a couple dedicated Leander golfers drafted the design. They did a magnificent job using the acerage available - the course is comperable in length to Kyle yet it's on ~1/3 less land. And the course doesn't feel cramped.

oh and PS some of those holes are just plain crappy. need to move some of the tee boxes on those shorty holes

7 is silly...some work needs to be done to clear a line of sight to the basket from the other side of the creek and 8 is kinda silly....other than that, what holes are crappy?

7,8 and then the 2 in the field and the one with the mud behind the basket or whatever that mess is.

I started to clear a hole on 7...it's still a work in progress. I love 8's teebox under the crazy tree...I just wish they would have put the basket further back...I don't know how bad it can flood back there though. 9 is a great hole to have OB to the right and behind the pin....
Chris, of all people I thought you would enjoy the big open holes....

I would like to see hole # 8's tee box back about 50-60 ft and a little left. so you have to throw under the tree where the tee box is now.
the open holes are ok but if I want open holes I play where the greens are grass and fairways are mowed.
ROUND ROCK!!!!!

You ask and you shall receive! The city is now mowing fairways and greens on ALL holes....the fairways are narrow but it's cool to see the city keeping the course in good shape. I'm still in the process of creating an ally on hole 7...I've got to get my dad's chainsaw to finish the job. Maybe I can get to it this weekend.

I played there Monday and Tuesday. Fairways are mowed nicely right now.
Question, the foundation for basket on #8 (the really short hole just before the 4 that are out in the open) is really loose....almost looks like someone's tried to steal the basket.....has it been this way for a while?
