has the PDGA or local players looked at trying to get aerial photos of the local courses? I would be really cool if the PDGA or local clubs could store them so you could download a map of a course you want to play. It would be really nice for the first time on a course. Alot of larger cities have (GIS) aerial maps (and contours) that you can get a copy of. I know we have done one of the courses here with GPS'ing the tee and basket locations with the distance labeled. But it might be more up to the local level to provide a link to get a download. I just thought I might pose the question...

It is a good idea and I think that it would definitely have to be done on a local level although it would be a monumental task to organize. Most people probably don't have access to a handheld GPS either which would be the first obstacle to overcome after actually finding locals willing to go out and do this.

In the past I would hunt down the local club site and then attempt to find a map for the courses in my road trip list. It didn't always work out but something is better than nothing.

There are plenty of them out there. Most are in blogs or discussion groups of local clubs.

This results in messy links like

http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/EFeNR3V17v4...pril%202006.jpg (http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/EFeNR3V17v4bFWz8HRlIOrhClHtbHh6qDu-kPbOCK3bX-S2y1c9chGwDs9zffBdINDnpd6IXYIm4E63piPVyh94kZ286hOE Zxqyhbg/Course%20Maps/Lakewood%20Hills%2C%20April%202006.jpg)

That whole link would take up about three lines. Here's the shortcut:
Lakewood Hills Map (http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/EFeNR3V17v4bFWz8HRlIOrhClHtbHh6qDu-kPbOCK3bX-S2y1c9chGwDs9zffBdINDnpd6IXYIm4E63piPVyh94kZ286hOE Zxqyhbg/Course%20Maps/Lakewood%20Hills%2C%20April%202006.jpg)

It would be nice to use one of the 2 fields available for web site links in the directory to point to a course map. I'm not sure if a link like the one above would work. It seems some things are only available to those registered.

There are also a lot of maps buried in the web sites of parks department and schools. I would think anyone could share links to these maps by updating the course directory.

Yea, those links are both dead unfortunately. I've tracked down some of the maps on the parks/recreation department sites in the past and it's definitely no easy task.

If your in a larger town though they probably have alot of it avaliable (maybe for purchase) in a GIS dept. I just wanted to give people a avenue to look for information. I will see if I can get a copy home of the local course and could probably sent through e-mail unless I can find a site to post it. I may have to find a way to make it smaller. I am a little slow on how to do some of the stuff on the net (like posting on a web site).

Ok I have them at home but not a place to link them too. If someone wanted to take a look at one or both of the maps I would be happy to e-mail it to you.
