As PDGA State Coordinator for the state of Pennsylvania, I am tracking both the PDGA-sanctioned as well as unsanctioned events in PA in 2008.

The current schedule, v1.60, of PDGA sanctioned and most unsanctioned events in Pennsylvania in 2008 can be viewed here:

The first PDGA-sanctioned tournaments of 2008 will be happen soon in our great state.

On Saturday April 5th, 2008 is the Philly Open at the historic Sedgley Woods course at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. TD John Duesler has created what may be the first "radio" commercial for a disc golf tournament in the state. You can listen to it and register for the event at: http://2005worlds.org/

On Saturday April 19th and Sunday April 20th, 2008 it's the Ironwood Open at the world class Moraine State Park course in Portersville, PA which is just north of Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Flying Disc Society has some awesome Champion Destroyers with tournament stamp for sale to help raise money for the event, and more information, including the event flyer and online event registration being handled through the PDGA at PDGASignup.com can be found at the PFDS website: http://www.pfds.org

On Saturday April 26th, it's the Fifth Annual Boulder Bash at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry, PA where the brand new, world class par 63 Quaker's Challenge course will be used for the first time in tournament play. I had the chance recently to experience this gem in the making, and golfers who love real pro par four and pro par five holes will be in heaven. The tournament flyer and online registration can be found at the BWCC Fighting Llamas homepage at: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/BoulderWoods/

The deadline (March 28th) is also fast approaching for Pennsylvania clubs to reserve spots in The Pennsylvania Disc Golf Championships on Saturday May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th at the IUP College Lodge course in Indiana, PA hosted by the Indiana Disc Links Association. Pennsylvania clubs can reserve spots in the 90-player field by sponsoring the event as a large, medium or small sized club. The event is a PDGA B-tier, MADC Series event with at least $750 added to the pro purse and handsome player packages for all Ams, with discounts and added money in all women's divisions. But the best of all is PAID ENTRIES to the United State Disc Golf Championship, United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship, and United States Women's Disc Golf Championship will be awarded to the Open, Advanced, and Woman champions at the event! Find more info at the PFDS website: http://www.pfds.org

If you know of disc golfers of college age, you may want to alert them to the Collegiate Disc Golf Championship and the 1st ever Collegiate GUTS Championship to be held in Augusta, GA at the Hippodrome Pro Worlds 2006 course. Play begins for disc golf on Friday, April 18th, 2008 and the Guts championship will be held Saturday night the 19th. Visit the Collegiate Disc Golf website for all details. http://ncdgu.com/

Please remember that new in 2008 is the $10 fee for non-PDGA members at tournaments this year. Please note that the non-member fee has not been raised in 20+ years while the membership dues have gone up many times in that period. In past years, non-members didn't receive anything from the PDGA except the direct benefits of the event in which they participated. Non-members who compete in a sanctioned event in 2008 and pay the $10 fee will receive a rulebook, a sticker, and a $10 discount should they decide to join the PDGA later in the same year. Add to this the new magazine optional membership level and there are now many low cost options for joining the PDGA.

Best regards,
-Jeff LaGrassa
PA State Coordinator
