I haven't seen a post from Jeremy about this event, so I thought it would be a good idea to start it up.

some event information and registration can be found at: titleDISC.com - DD Winter Warmup 2008 (http://www.titledisc.com/event.php?eventid=301)

stay tuned for more info, I'm sure Rusco will be on here to give you better details than I can :)

Looking to be a great DD event to kick the year off!

Of course we'll have some of the best CFR plastic that is available from Innova! Champion Destroyers, Glow Champion Wraiths, Star Ontario Rocs, and Star Whippet-X.

Don O'Connell has also been doing some awesome work with full color designs. Innova will be making some INNColor discs for the event. I think these will be Star Destroyers and Star Wraiths! I will post a picture as soon as possible.

More details will be posted as they come available. Look forward to seeing everyone again!

I will not be making it back to Texas for the Big Show week. I only have so many sick days. With the DD event being only 1 day, I will take off Friday and be home Sunday.

The year I played ZBoaz, I didn't leave TX until about Ten on Sunday. I didn't even get to go to bed before I had to go to work.

Star Ontario Rocs, Star Whippet-X, Champion Glow Wraiths, Big Bead DX Aviars! The way these Star Ontario's are moving it won't surprise me if there are only a few left on Feb 2nd.

I'm sure everyone will say that their home course is a must play... but IMO Lester Lorch Park in Cedar Hill (36 holes) is about as "must play" as it gets. If that's too far south, you might try Harry Myers park in Rockwall (pretty much due East of N. Dallas). Either of these courses is worth the drive and could be hit on your way back to Baton Rouge.

Hey Will, The Lewisville course was designed with you in mind. The concrete tee pads are at least 20 feet long, so with that gigantic approach to teeing off you got, it should suit you just fine.

Actual "tarmac" tee pads!
I'm sure that I will have time during the week while nephews are in school to check out more than one course in the area. Has been since the VPO in '99 since I've been there!

Hey BigE, as pancake mentioned there are long tees marked by a strop of concrete on holes 2, 5, 7, 8.

However, there are also some longer ones that Sprout decided to use for the tournament last Nov. They are farther back from the concrete strips or tee on holes 7, 9, and 18. There was also an alternate tee used on 15 which was a couple of hundred feet left of the tee down by the bridge and drainage ditch.

Play these tees and all concrete including ditchs and paths and roads as OB and beyond and -5 is a good score. And according to Old Man Tom -6 at the Lake course is a 1000 rated round.

Let me know when your going out and I'll try and meet you and get a round or two in as well. Haven't played since the weather turned cold so I'm needing the practice.

I really encourage everyone to sign up in advance to make the Saturday start go as smoothly as possible. Everyone who registers in advance is guaranteed a custom dyed disc in their player pack.

The weather report is shaping up nicely! 65 for a daytime high on Saturday! No excuses to miss out on this one day event. Looks like we might have to put some chains on the RV just to get out of Kansas with some snow on the way. Can't wait to get there!

So i am assuming that Ray will be there, or will someone else be doing the renewals?

baldguy
Jan 29 2008, 02:19 PM
Ray does volunteer a lot of his time to take renewals, but his participation isn't required for that to happen :)

Part of the PDGA's sanctioning agreement says that TDs are required to take renewals at PDGA events. If Ray is willing, then I'm sure Jeremy will be more than happy to make use of his help.

Can someone say WIND!?!?!?

I played today in 20-30 mph winds (worse than most hurricanes I've played in!) and played like an Am. I lost my 2004 Orange Claw Circle CE Roc on hole 3. Hit right close to the basket and rolled in. The water is real cold - frostbit toes and still no disc :(
Went back and hacked my way through to get a feel - lord let the wind go away!

Check with Old Man Tom Saturday morning, if a regular finds it they will give it to him as long as it has your name and number.

And yes that wind was brutal. Trees and limbs down all over the place out there. Weather report is for the wind to be high the next couple of days and then a normal 10-20 with temps in the mid 60's on Saturday!! :D

From the TD: Bring your partner doubles, Flex start from about 1:00 till dark, or if you want to play glow, feel free. Price will probably be $10 a head, $20 a team.

The registration list is getting up there! Over 110 already! Looking to be another great turnout! Both courses are going to be used. Long tees will be set up for pro/advanced.

If anyone has some spare room and can bring a water jug or two that would be great. We'll have a couple but I'd like to have some more water on the course for the players this time.

Al's Chuckwagon BBQ will be there Saturday for food so help support this tournament sponsor. I think it will be $5 a plate.

Can't wait to get out of this snow!

Yep, same rules as last time. All concrete and beyond will be OB. 16 will play like an island green. The exception is for intermediate and lower divisions which will play concrete as OB if the disc is on it such that the concrete fully encircles the disc.

The long tees have been marked with paint and an arrow is at the back of the concrete pads in case anyone forgets. Flags should also be out by Saturday morning. There is also an arrow under the basket on the holes where it's not obvious on the direction to the long tees.

The only thing in question is if an alternate basket will be setup for hole 4 again. The location is marked just in case though. So if there is a volunteer with a basket who would be willing to setup it and take care of it before the Pro's round there that would be great!!!

That's only the 1st round results. They were on different courses most likely, and INT might not have to play OB on/beyond the sidewalks. Teague is actually playing in the right division based on the ratings. Anyone of the top 12 in Open could still win this thing!

The Advanced Women don't have ratings, they played long tee's, but no OB, does this help Chuck?

ck34
Feb 03 2008, 12:36 PM
If they played a layout no one else did (which is the way I set it up), then they won't have ratings since they didn't have enough propagators among them. Only one Adv Woman has a rating over 799 which is the minimum to be a propagator. If any other division played the same combination of tees and OB rules as the Adv Women in the other pool/round, we'll be able to combine their scores with theirs to produce official ratings, but the online unofficial process isn't set up to do that.

Heidi
Feb 03 2008, 02:04 PM
Advanced women actually played the same layout as the intermediate women. We did not play long tees at LL Woods. We played OB on the sidewalk/concrete, but not beyond.

baldguy
Feb 03 2008, 03:59 PM
And the same tees as the Rec Men, who (I think) were also playing on the same course. That should give you enough propagators to rate the rounds, yes?

What a great event. I think that it may have been the best DD event to date. We had over 180 people, and I didn't hear many complaints. The biggest complaint was how bad LL kicked our butts. What a simple course that will show you who is boss if you aren't careful. I know it got into my head.

You Lewisville people are lucky to have Old Man and Don, those dudes rock! Ray Murray was a huge help also. He took care of the cards before the first round and made things run smooth.

The entire DD crew wants to thank everyone who came out and supported the tournament. We couldn't have asked for better weather and didn't plan or expect to have 183 players. The original number was 185 but two players who signed up through titledisc didn't show up. What is the deal with Dan McGough? This was someone who signed up Saturday morning. Are there two players with this name??? Did the wrong name get plugged in somehow?

It seemed to me like the tournament went over pretty smooth. I do want to apologize about the mandatory problems at L.L. Woods for the first round. This was not marked and should have been. It was noted in the player info/rule handout but nothing was marked on the tree. This did cause some problems that will NEVER happen again at L.L. woods. We weighed all the options and possible actions but decided that the best thing to do was to keep all the scorecards that were turned in the same to avoid any additional problems.

I want to thank "OLD MAN" and the entire DD crew who helped out with this event (Eric McCabe & Liz Lopez, Jake Newell, Chris Smith/Smitty, Brendan Hickman, Don O'Connell, Chris Wiggins, Kevin Kaiser, and Chris Tyler/SNG. These guys sacrifice their warm-up time and tournament focus to plug scores in and do some of the behind the scenes tournament stuff. It takes a lot to keep things moving with 183 players. That is a lot of scores to plug in to the scorepoints and computer and even more to shuffle everyone through the merchandise payout line. Without these guys there is no way these events could be pulled off.

We love Lewisville and all the disc golfers who came out and made this event the biggest DD event yet! For almost zero sponsorship dollars except Chris Tyler & the Super Nice Guys $100 cash sponsorship this tournament didn't have as much added cash as the next one will have so expect big things next time and put it on your calendar for the last weekend in September. OLD MAN & USAutomatic will be bringing back the $10,000 ace hole at the Lake! With a lot of sponsors who will be on board this will be another DD event that you won't want to miss.
