I quick reviewed the rules and at first glance could find anything governing the use of gas / electric carts during play.
So can I get a rules guru to point out the ruling ...if any?

I've written to the competition director Vinnie...I'll let everyone know what the answer is when I hear back from Gentry.

I know that carts were used in sanctioned events here in Michigan.

I can never find what I want on this site, but I recollect that it was written in that document containing the dress code. It was a supplemental document, not the actual rules document.

Personally, unless carts are made available to everyone, they shouldn't be used. Just my opinion.

Nevermind, it's in the competition manual, page 16.

3.5. Carts and Caddies
A. Players are required to walk during their tournament
rounds at all PDGA events unless alternate transportation
such as golf carts are provided to all competitors

Those tournaments were held on golf courses and they were a part of your entry fee. So, they were offered to everyone and were not optional.

13,000+ feet of disc golf fun! :)

The operative word here is PROVIDED to all, not just available to all.

that what I was thinking

Not everything that is provided must necessarily be used unless the manual mandates the use of the carts when provided. Nonetheless, some ball golf courses mandate the use of carts.

But it also says this:

E. For those players wishing to use a carrying device,
approved carrying devices include disc golf bags, foldable
chairs and push cart companions. No animals, motor
driven or bicycle type devices shall be allowed at all PDGA
events.

The context seems to imply that these resrictions are for carrying your stuff, not yourself, but it appears that a rule has been written to specifically forbid the use of motorized devices for doing so.

Dang! I can't find it either...and I share your frustration at locating the information I want here. Where are the payout tables? Where is the Competition Guide? Fifteen minutes, and I still haven't stumbled on the right link.

Can anyone help me find it again?

Thanks muchly James...I finally figured out that it was in the "Updates" box on the right side.

Hmmm....we've got to do some checking on this and see if we can get a slight exemption.

Looks like we just need to find a "cart fee" sponsor...about how much to rent carts for the entire field?

....but if 160 people show up, there might only be 70 carts(140 riders). No Bueno.

I have been in contact with the PDGA and it sounds as if they will grant us a waiver for our "Equal Opportunity" golf cart use plan. :DFull details will be published on the Texas States website (http://www.texasstates.org/) when it becomes operational after December 15th.

It should be up to the TD whether golf carts are allowed or not. Most parks do not allow motorized anything so it would be rare to see it happen.

True dat, but this isn't a park either. This IS a golf course.

Sounds like a load of fun. I play in a non-sanctioned tournament every year where golf carts are everywhere. SOOOOOOOOOOO much fun.
