It's my understanding that J. Gary had his hip surgery yesterday. If anyone has spoken with him, updates would be appreciated. I'm certain it goes without saying that his fellow PFDS'ers and friends in general wish him well and are hoping he has a speedy recovery.

Ever seen the movie "Rookie of the year" where the kid gets hurt and the Doctor fixed him up. Yeah, it went like that. J. Gary will be the world distance holder in no time flat with his super fast like hips.
But in all seriousness how is he doing?

first and foremost, J Gary appreciates all the well wishes and wanted to say hi to everyone.....
He returned home last night and is doing well. The procedure went smoothly and took approximately two hours during which the top of his femur was removed and a spike was inserted into the bone itself with an artificial metal ball on top. A cup was then fused to his pelvis for the completion of his artificial hip. After some recovery J Gar went through mild range of motion exercises and will have in home therapy for the next few weeks until he returns to his doctor.
Spirits high. Life is good.
No bees for at least 4 months, maybe. Still not sure how long... yikes.
with that said.... Coming soon, Dropcho indoor mini course! WOO HOO

J Gary gave his brother, Mike Dropcho his entry fee to the PASDGC!!! He didn't want to sign up through the club program just in case he can't play.
But, what a great sign, he must be feeling pretty good if he's thinking he "might" be able to play come May.
It hasn't been the same the past couple months without him being around all the monthlies.

Nice, I've sent Speedy numerous messages over the past few years to have J Gary nominated for this!!! About time he got on the list for possible Hall of Famers. It will happen!!
J. Gary shot a -10, 44 from the white tees on Wed. Sept. 10th at league night at Schenley Park.
I'm curious, is that a 1000+ rated round? If so what would a par 54 be rated, and a +10, 64?
Great round J. Gary, congratulations!

Do you know what the pin layout was?? I shot a -8 at Knob last night with KB, but I don't think that is even a 1000 rated round.........................................one second.
Knob Hill, 1998 Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open, SA Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open 18 46.45
Knob Hill, 1999 Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open, SA Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open 18 46.08
Knob Hill, 1999 Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open, SA Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open 18 46.02
So I guess -8 at Knob for A-pins is right around 1000 rated. Let's see for Schenley.......................
Schenley blue to B (2001 Ironwood) Ironwood Open 18 52.22
Schenley Blue-B (2002 Ironwood Open) Ironwood Open 18 52.10
Schenley Park blue tee to B pin R2 (2004 Ironwood Open) Ironwood Open 18 51.57
Schenley Park Blue Tees to B (2003 Ironwood Open) Ironwood Open 18 51.55
Schenley White-B (2002 Ironwood Open) Ironwood Open 18 47.57
Schenley Park Competition-B (2000 Ironwood) Ironwood Open 18 46.46
Schenley white to B (2001 Ironwood) Ironwood Open 18 46.32
Schenley Park White Tees to B (2003 Ironwood Open) Ironwood Open 18 46.23
Schenley Park white tee to B pin R1 (2004 Ironwood Open) Ironwood Open 18 46.13
Don't know for A-pin. BUt probably just about 1000, maybe a little less?

Thanks Jeff.
Layout at Schenley on Wed. 9/10 was a mix of A, B and C pins (C pins are the new pin positions -- some are longer than B, some are between A and B.

Congrats to J. Gary for a well deserved award. I know I sent in a pretty long e-mail nominating him and I have only known him for about a year. I don't think there are many disc golfers in the area who do not appreciate how important J. Gary is to Disc Golf in Western Pennsylvania.

I thought I might as well dust off this old thread. J.Gary had hip surgery once again on Friday. I visited him this AM and he was very happy to get the disc that everyone had signed for him wishing him a speedy recovery. I was there for his physical therapy and the guy is amazing. The day after getting a new hip he is walking around and looking very upbeat. I guess before we know it he will be back out there taking our money on the course.

To all the friends and fellow golfers who sent well wishes after my right hip replacement surgery,
Thanks for the signed "get well soon" CFR Gazelle, the phone calls and the visits to my hospital room. What a great pick me up! There will be times in the rehab process over the next couple of months when a quick glance at that disc will be just what I need to push through the pain or the boredom.
I hope by the end of summer to see you out on one of our courses.
