I will be running the 2008 SADC Ice Bowl at Bryan McClain Park. I have not had a date approved yet but should have it within a week or so. This is what I do know:

2008 SADC Ice Bowl (Bryan McClain Park)
No Wimps, No Whiners and It Will Not Be Cancelled Due To Weather!!!

This is a 100% Charity Event, No Payout (Traditional Ice Bowl)
Two 18 Hole Rounds of Bring Your Partner Doubles $10.00 a person and if you think you make a good pot of chili....Bring it! I will be making a pot of my Ozarks Favorite Chili. :) I will be picking the Charity to donate the money to this year and was thinking the winners can pick the next years charity? Don't forget to bring non-perishable foods that will be donated to the San Antonio Area Food Bank. 1st Place Trophies will be awarded to all divisions with 3 or more teams. Raffles, Games, CTP's, FUN. Many more details to come soon.....

Also, should we start the food drive now? I can offer to collect and store food if anyone wants to start bringing it to the minis now.

Not sure on the format yet but I know it WILL NOT be worst disc. Probably 1st round Best Disc and Second round Best Shot off tee then alternate after that. Maybe even some holes of Ript. I don't see why we couldn't start the food drive now.

Clubs don't run events, TDs do. Clubs help put on events, clubs sponsor events, clubs organize events, but TDs run events. Therefore the I is totally appropriate. Of course you didn't think that far ahead, you just wanted to be negative and spitefull. That's unfortuneate.

I am looking at running the SADC Ice Bowl on 2-23-08 pending approval from the city. I emailed the Director of SAPAR to see if we can reserve McClain Park. It is usually first come first serve basis but I asked if we can actually have it for the day? As soon as I get a response I will let everyone know. I will probably need some volunteers to help me run it. Maybe 2-3 people.

In Houston we work under the premise that the club, HFDS is running an event, from the Ice Bowl, Moffitt Show and most of all TSDGC. Yes, we have TD's or co-TD's for these events, but we all help run the event and plan the direction our actions will take. Only during the rounds is a TD on their own to make decisions about the actual play during the event IMO.

Good Luck with your event guys! I can only make one in that neck of the woods, and I've been doing Jay & Des' event every year, so the tradition continues.

Got a call from SAPAR today about our park reservation. If the park is going to be reserved specifically for disc golf it would cost us $250.00.:p I asked if they could waive the fee for a charity event and she said No. I explained to her that we are a new club and we don't have that kind of money in our club fund. She is going to explain that to the Director of SAPAR to try and have the fees waived. She did state that it is on a first come first served basis and if we wanted to just go out that day and run it that way, that would be fine. This is something we needed to know for our future tournaments.

Dec 07 2007, 06:25 PM
I sent another letter to the Director of SAPAR a couple of days ago explaining how $250.00 a day was way too much money for us to spend to reserve the course. I said alot of things in that email. I got a call back today and we WILL be able to reserve Bryan McClain Park for the SADC Ice Bowl for the price of $0.00 :). Sounds like SAPAR pretty much wants a "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" kind of relationship. They want to maybe come up with some kind of agreement between us and them (us-workdays, them-cut the rental fees). I told her that we would help maintain any San Antonio Park that has a Disc Golf Course in it. :)

I know this started as a joke, but it got me to thinking, so I checked on the way home. There is a single porta potti across from #5 at Friesenhahn Park. I'm comfortable going in the woods if necessary, but do you think we might need to check the price on a one day rental? How many women do you think are coming?

Well unless the city has some funds allocated for future facilities we will probably need one for any large event i.e. Bud Six Pack, McClain Open.

What do you think of this proposition:
We will give whichever company our future business for events in exchange for Tee Sign advertising and future cash from events. If we continue to sell sponsor tees for non-charity events that is monies for the club that can go to pay for such luxuries. We're selling futures.

I wasn't totally prepared for the Ice Bowl because of certain mishaps at the last moment but I think it went well. There were a total of 47 Teams (94 Players). Thank You all for showing up and contributing to the charity. You all raised $2104.00 for the SA Lighthouse for the Blind and over 400 Pounds of food along with $100.00 cash to the SA Food Bank. :o This is the only sport that I have been involved with that when you call for help....you all answer and show up to benefits like The Ice Bowl. Speaking of which....like Scott said, "ParadICE Bowl". Can you believe the weather we had today. Thanks Again and we will see you all again next year. :)

If you are in Austin and like a good beer, look for Independence Brewing beverages. They were really nice people to meet and want to be involved in future tournaments. So who drank all that beer they brought us? Thanks for saving me a couple.

THANK YOU, Ray, Stacey, Greg, Snyder Girls, Tracy O., and the many more that helped me out with running this event.

We definitely need to thank all the golfers for showing up. The numbers definitely exceeded our expectations, but this prepares us for our next tournament, and our chance to make it bigger and better than todays. We had over 100 people in the park today with no complaints from fellow golfers, local residents, or even the Park Police when they came by for a routine check. This goes a long way when we campaign for additional courses in the city.

This was the first Ice Bowl, or large tournament in the city limits of San Antonio within probably the last 10 years or so. As a club we are essentially the new kids on the block and we appreciate the faith and support of our fellow golfers. Without all of you we would not have had the success we had today. Regardless of who took home trophies, baskets, or prizes you are all winners in my book.

A special thanks to Suemac, she always gives to everyone, and has a kind word for everyone. I've never met her and already I like her! She has a big wet one coming when I do meet her. :o

Just one problem, why come I can never win one of her towels? Every one knows you ain't a true golfer unless you have a Suemac towel! (May God smite the first wise ***** that says I've already pointed out the reason.):D

Just like on the course ... Bird comes up clutch again. Thanks Pres!

One of the most fun tourneys I've played in. And I saw some awesome golf out on the course, Brian and Paul birdied #15 (hadn't seen that before), 2 aces on the CTP and both where serious runners.

Can't wait till next year.

Couldn't have done it by myself...That's for sure.

Here are the two Winners that hit an Ace on the CTP. Nelle gives the prize to Stephan as she is "good on ESP plastic". Wish I could have seen them.

Looks confusing but I'm sure you can figure it out. Intermediate and Recreational Divisions played 10 Holes from short tees during the second round. No Ace was hit during play so we did a CTP for it. Paid out two spots, Phil Morgan $160.00 and Rick Gaskill $80.00. The locals take the cash. :o

Thanks Jimbob, I went out to McClain to see if any were left out there and I found 1. It happened to be the Coastal Stream one that he wanted really bad. I'm glad I found it.

Thanks to Jimbob again for clearing the rocks off of 7's fairway. Today was the first time I actually got to see what he did when we saw him last Wednesday with his bucket and some garden tools. It's looks GREAT!!! You are formally invited to the next workday. :D:D

Cool thanks, I've been making my own work days as well. Cleared the fairway on 12. After this weather blows by, I'll be out there again during the week after work. Don't know what I'll be working on yet, proly finish 12 or do some pathways. I'll get all the way around eventually.
