I-95 was not built till much later. it used to take them 3 days to drive what takes me about 13 hours now

I'm trying to find info on the Coastal Plains Winter Open, but since I'm kinda new to this I'm having a couple of problems.

I visited the Onslow Flying Disc Association website, who is apparently hosting the PDGA sanctioned event. Unfortunately, their February link doesn't work and their site has no info on it at all.

Do you have to sign up for these events in advance? Or just show and throw?

Honestly, since I just got my PDGA profile...I would love to have something on there. A blank page is rather lousy.

On another note, does anyone else get a chance to play during lunch on weekdays? I'm planning on sneaking out at least twice a week for 18 at 12 or 1. I went today and didn't know anyone out there.

My neighbor Neal that works with the parks said that there was a complaint about the trash that got pilled up on hole 4 and left there. I dont think it was there long and was only separated so that it could be recycled. It sounded like someone was making a big deal about it. They wanted Neal to call someone at the club and say that we needed to keep up with it better or something...especially if we wanted another course. I explained that it wasn't the core group of golfers that are filling all the trash cans but all the rec players. Which comes back to only having the one course. We are the ones attempting to maintain the course on our own time. It sounded a little petty to me, but because it was visible from the street it probably did look pretty bad. I know that I saw it there and thought that it did. But then it got scooped up shortly after. Anyway, just a heads up.

jmonny
Feb 27 2008, 07:09 PM
Interesting...I guess they would have to be discatchers. what would they be to purchase outright? Can we get the 2 for 1 deal? I'm stoked. Let's have a fundraiser tourney/monthly I think everyone would be willing to donate.

bgwvdave
Feb 27 2008, 08:48 PM

ashley
Feb 27 2008, 10:42 PM
I think a fundraiser by the club... set up shop again all day one nice sat.... get some cash flow.. maybe have a donation bucket at azalea as well?? To bad we wont get a club rated discount on rounds since we are paying for everything... but then again, i guess if we have to take them out again, we have baskets and can approach another course.

jmonny
Feb 27 2008, 11:06 PM

oh somehow i read you thought inland greens woudl purchase them. reading your post again i am not sure how i read that. but i just talked to boz today at lunch and i was not around for installing the castle so i have little to no idea how to approach harold on this. i know New DiscCatchers are around $330 or so 18 would be around $6,000.

I challenge all club members and anyone who wants this course back to pledge $50 each to get the ball rolling. 20 pledges will mean $1000, 30 will mean $1500. Tell non members too, like the guys at Altheas attic who played out there I bet they would contribute.

Wouldn't it be cool if we all had a little bag we could carry when we play to at least pick up a little bit of crap on the course? It would certainly be a healthy habit for the course. I know a couple of guys that play Renny regularly that do it. But they bring big ***** bags. That would be a little tough to manage.

Anyways, just an idea. I'd love to see someone throwing a 22oz can in the middle of a fairway, especially if I had just picked one up and had it in my bag...

I walked the front 9 yesterday to pick up trash. With hole 6 (I think) and 8 as exceptions, the place was fairly clean. I did notice that one of the 'ash trays' had no lid on it, therefore welcoming trash. It was either 6 or 7. I can't remember. There's still a case of beer box holding some trash on 8 (my trash bag was full). I'll get that tomorrow when I walk the back 9.

Just an FYI I guess. Hopefully we can get a lid put back on that one bucket?

Also, maybe we should put a flier in the kiosk that suggests players carry their trash since no one but the players keeps the place clean. I guess we can discuss it at the next meeting.

FYI

Went to the Dr. yesterday and had Xrays and I have no bone damage in my knee. He manipulated it in many different ways/angles and didn't think I had any ligament damage. He felt like I sprained it or I could have some meniscus damage. It is improving, so, at the current time I am choosing not to have a MRI to see if there is any soft tissue damage. If it doesn't continue to improve I'll consider several options at a later date. Thanks for all of the well wishes, I very much appreciate it.

so did our website get scalped already or are we in limbo Dave?

bgwvdave
Apr 03 2008, 06:25 PM
we are in limbo. to renew the site i need to know who Russ registered the Domain name with. several calls to russ today by boz have gone unreturned. the jack ***** that hosts out site now is the one that redirected our site to what you are seeing today. me and chi could get it up and running no problem if Russ would now or would have when he quite let me know who the club purchased newhanoverdiscgolf.com from. if i had that information right now the site would be active. worse case scenario we will hopefully be able to get the original site up in almost it's entirety but maybe under a new domain name. maybe nhdc.com? or nhdgc.com or newhanoverdiscgolfclub.com? i am up to any suggestions.

that you tube video is pretty cool though.

started on #15 (near gazebo) Christian is safe, mine is 2/3 down, Vee goes high and right but makes a good recovery shot then rattles in his par putt, all 3 move on. Hole #16 Christian is pin high but 35ft left. I parked the old QJ. Vee flicks and hits a tree about 60 ft short. He congratulates me then steps up and slams it in for deuce...the crowd cheers. Christians putt hits top of basket so he's out. Vee & I both par #17. My drive is high on #18 and gets knocked down short, Vee is 25ft short and left but drains it for 2nd. Very exciting to be part of it, I deuced 5 of my last 6 to get in the playoff. :D

I wont be able to go today, but I can get you started at the right spot....If you go in at the college rd intrance and take a left, go into the first parking lot, near the baseball fields. Park next to the pay phone. directly to the right of the pay phone is hole one. its a straight 250ish shot. Hole 2 is right behind the basket tree of 1. then it is REALLY hard to find the rest. If you want to try, take a left after hole two about a hundred feet and pick your own tee spot cuz its not really marked, the basket to 3 is at the other end of the park near the Christmas tree buildings about 500ft away. Then keep going clock wise around the park. But what I do sometimes is skip all the way to 11 i think it is. Which plays the up right side of the college rd entrance, up towards college rd. Its like a 350 side arm or turn over shot. And then keep going clockwise. Hole 18 plays from the Pine Grove Dr. entrance. Theres a tee spot near the entrance and you throw over there pond, to the lone tree in the grassy spot near the tennis courts and playground. Its the best hole out there. I will try to work it out to show you guys soon if no one else has. good luck

wow i went out there today and walked around the entire park. i could not find anything. i am pretty sure i found hole one but the lines on the tree that i am pretty sure was the target was so faint i can't even be sure. after that i did not see a thing. i can remember not to long ago going out there and seeing the stripes around the trees but today i did not see a thing. could not find hole 11 but i did find Hole 18 but the lone tree target still had no clear lines on it. once you got up close you could see the remnants but barley. i think if we can find the time it would be cool to repaint or tie ribbons around them. it so cool out there.

Me and David are planning on going to the tourney in highpoint the last weekend in august. We have two houses next door to each other 45 minutes away so plenty of room if any one wants to go. just hit me or david up and we can car pool. ish will be awesome.

the Oak Hollow Open is a great tournament. it is unfortunate that they will not be setting up the temp course in Festival Park this year. Super Dave and Tatter Sack Spurgeon always throw a quality event. i will be going for sure. Johnson St. is a fun course. and home to 2 world champions.

P.S. If you guys are going keep your eye on when Registration opens up with only one course this year the field will be limited to 90 peeps and i think it will fill really quickly.

There are a few really odd holes out at Hugh that I have altered from the original that I was shown. My changes make some of the holes more playable on crowded days, and in some cases are just better holes. But if there is a desire to mark official tee pads and basket trees, we might want to get a group out there and come up with a consensus. Anyone just out for a practice session can do what ever they want. But it could be fun to do a tag match out there or something, and maybe practice the official setup for such a day. Lets get a group together.

i like this idea. marking the tees could be tricky. any thing we put down is subject to get run over by lawn mowers. but at least clearly marking the target trees will give people who wish to play an idea of where to go. i will try to get up with you soon rory so we can walk the course.

The pad areas use to be marked with spray paint around the base of two trees...but we could find a way.

Happy Birthday Scott.

I'm heading to Hickory for the tourny Sept 6,7 if anyone needs a ride or wants to carpool. I'm guessing I'll be hitting the local Mariot.

Scoobs, how is your elbow progressing?

Elbow feels better, though I have not thrown a disc in 2 weeks.I'm probably going to stay on hiatus for the next couple of weeks and then throw a bit and see how it holds up.I am hoping to be able to play the FDC's or at least our Sept.monthly.As you already know......THIS SUCKS!!

Hey Deacon,
Got your message last night.Elbow is still mending.I am going to play in the monthly and see how it feels.Unfortunately I think that a visit to an Ortho is in my future. Are you still going to Hickraw? If so good luck I wish I could be there.

Hey Scoobs,

Sorry to hear you're not able to say you're playing this afternoon. Being injured is definitely NOT fun, hang in there.

Yes, I'll be in Hickory and thank you for the well wishes.
