Hey SoCal! Did you know Visalia's CVS has over $1400 in sponsor money so far? Those of you who showed for End of the Trail know that money goes back to the players! Don't miss out on this tournament! There is still room and 17 days remaining to register before registration is closed. Anyone planning on carpooling up to Visalia?

I heard the other day that I am not allowed to play in the am division, even though I've only played 3 tournaments in 2007 in AMS and did NOT win anything. I think it's sad that CVS is turning away players, especially females! My goal for '08 is to get my game back and Visalia was going to be my kick off tournament for the year. Since I am forced to play in the division the CVS Board (or whomever made this decision) decides I should play in and not the division I signed up for, I will be asking for my money back and will not attend. I played there just a mere 2 months ago and got my butt kicked BY AM WOMEN. Why I'm being forced to play pro is beyond me. I will not be coming in January to the Fresno tournament either (as I had planned) IF the rules are the same there too. IF I'm forced to play pro, I will not be coming. This is really unfortunate and makes me very sad that a group of people have decided to turn away females based on what their performace was YEARS ago.

I do see the reasoning on the male side because the men have the numbers. Most tournaments do NOT have the female numbers they desire and unfortunately it will remain that way if a group of people decides where someone can and cannot compete.

I hope everyone has fun and I wish I could attend, but alas, I'm not driving 400+ miles (roundtrip) to attend an event which has its own rules which prevent women from playing in the division at the same skill level as their own.

You do have a Valid point Michelle !!!!
Current Rating: 811 (as of 13-Nov-2007)

I'd check with the PDGA.

Is part of the issue here that the Visalia tournament is not a PDGA sanctioned event, so they're not bound by PDGA guidelines for assigning divisions?

Hi Michelle. I just wanted to let you know that first, I don't have any say in this decision, and second, the tournament directors for CVS had come to a consensus about this decision. I'm not sure exactly who voted on this, but that's what I was told. I talked to Visalia's TD and he said if the other TD's will recend the decision and let you play in the AM division he would certainly follow. He also said that if you've already decided to get your money back to call him at 559-635-0267. I'm sorry that this is happening this way, and hope we can convince the TD's to let you play am.

Correct. And I was told I cannot play in AMS because I was formerly a pro and also have a world title. That was 9 years ago! I'm being judged in 2007 for my play almost an entire decade ago. But it is a free country and they can do as they wish, they just shouldn't expect people to pay money to be told where they're going to play instead of where they sign up to play.

I have already put a call into Chuck to get my money back so hopefully he is doing that. I don't want to change my mind and cause a rift there amongst their one lone pro female, who is also my friend. So I have decided to just back out all together so she's not mad at me either. There's just no pleasing her or the TD's so I'll just back it up and not attend.

However, a call from the TD would've been nice! I accidentally found out by calling my friend the other night. If I had not made that call, I would've driven all the way up there only to be told I was forced to play pro. THEN I would've been mad. But luckily I caught it early and decided to back out. Am very sorry this is all happening and I cannot in good conscious ask other females to come to a tournament where a group of people who do not even know them decide where they can play.

Just curious. I think that if your a male pro, and your rating falls below 955, you can play am if you so choose. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Is there a corresponding rating level for the ladies? Should there be?
