I have done some of thinking about this years up coming events. With my work schedule as most of you know its hard for me to get weekends off so I have to request in advance. What I'm trying to do is play one tourney a month. Here is what I have come up with.

March- Carolina Clash
April- Azalea
May- Kings Cup
June- Horizons
July- Ching and zing
August- Either worlds or Oak hollow open
Sept- Hickory
Oct- Usdgc and possibly down east players cup
Nov- Either Jacksonville or Yadkin open
Dec- Tupelo Bay

If anyone wants to go to any of these events and work out some transportation and places to reside or if you know of some better tourneys hit me up.

So I just got back from playing the Clash with B-Tuck, Drew-Tuck, Gabe, and Chad! Congrats to Drew-Tuck who took 10th in intermediate with a good last round. It was a fun tournament and the weather was great. Besides the sunburn another bummer came up in the end as the winner of this A-tier event in intermediate took home $35 (entry fee $50 with 35 players) and the advanced winner took home $55 (entry fee $60 with 30 players). I know there is a players pack and a lot of other cost (stuff) that goes into the whole calculation and so forth...but the winner did not even get his money back (besides all other stuff)? This was only my third A-tier, but it just seems so wrong to me. Or maybe I am just wrong?!?

jmonny
Mar 24 2009, 01:45 PM
disc golf is one of the only competitive sports where ams can WIN anything so we have kinda been spoiled with payout. some events payout high (DEPC), so when others payout low it seems unfair but I don't look at it as unfair. If you really want
to get paid you gotta play pro. A-tiers do have a tendancy to focus on pros it seems.

bgwvdave
Mar 24 2009, 03:54 PM
Monty i think you might be in that old thought process refering to american football baseball etc. but in all the competitive sports i grew up in surfing and skateing Am's not only won tons of product they even won Cash.

Markus,
It has been my experience when playing charlotte events while the club is rad and the courses are the best they do not pay am's alot.

Markus
Mar 24 2009, 05:10 PM
thanks for the thoughts on that. I agree with big wave and that the courses are nice in charlotte. Its not that I want to get paid, but if they want me to sponsor, they should just tell me, instead of asking me to pay $50 to get in. I've played other A-tiers up north and everybody was treated the same (Ams vs. Pros). And for taking third at the Yetter '08 I got merchandise worth way over $100. And Jenkins and them still showed up. :) At least the players package was really nice, though they could have changed that package to honor those players more that actually did well in the AM division.

However, thats just my two cents...

jmonny
Mar 24 2009, 05:37 PM
Yeah I'm old school, and I know amateur athletes are rewarded much more than they used to be. I guess mypoint is ams shouldn't EXPECT to get paid and shouldn't compare one event to another, just grateful that we may get something besides a trophy if we play well enough.

crotts
Mar 24 2009, 06:47 PM

So I got back to Germany this Wednesday and played my first open tournament in Germany. A German Tour A-tier event (PDGA B-tier) in Rsselsheim. It went quite well as I finished 15th place in open and got to play the semi-finals. I think 45 players started in that and hope the results will be up soon. You guys should watch Simon Lizotte, he won by 17 strokes and is sick. Rated 1004 or something like that and only 16 years old. This guy is bored here, he needs some international challenge. If you only have time for one, then definately west meadowbrook. ECU will often have some unaccessable holes because of campus parking. The meadow is more fun & has 2 sets of pads on most holes.

I had a blast playing in Greenville. When I pulled up, Max was gathering people for the weekly doubles tourny. I got paired up with Scott C, who actually is holding number 7 from NHDGC. I've known him a few months now but never got a chance to play with him. We had a rockin' round with a 44. Second only to Jeb Bryant and his partner with a 42. My drives sucked, but my putting was on...VERY on. I made one of the best putts ever on hole 16. My drive landed behind a huge conjoined tree and I had to stretch out and throw a stradle from about 75 feet. That new R-Pro putter ran a straight line to the hole for a deuce. It was pretty exciting.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion on playing Westbrook, Monny. I had a blast. There were actually several people there that I knew. I hope I can make their weekly again sometime.

Max, if you read this thanks for having me. And great shooting Scott!

I am glad to hear that you are thinking of coming. It is nearly here and man I think we have a special event planned. I know that this is the first year, but we have tried to include a lot of small things that will create a buzz for next year. It is hard to sell a tournament in its first year. I know that we will have some things to learn from, but I can't hardly wait.

I want to thank the Wilmington, NHDGC crew for the showing at the event. You guys did a great job and I want to say that WE appreciate the support that we get from you guys.

Chad, I have your banner and will be bringing it to the Castle next month if I don't see you this weekend at the LBP.

Great Showing for Rory, Scuba, and Gabe!!! I hope that you guys can keep that up next year.

I would like for our clubs to do a tit for tat sponsorship next year. Just a thought.

Thanks again guys for a super showing.

Since I can't make it to Raleigh this weekend, I'm thinking of playing Jacksonville's monthly this Sunday (19th). If anyone is interested in joining, let me know.

I think it starts at 11, so it won't be a super early rush to get out there.

My ride to Hickory just informed me that they're leaving a day early. I'd still like to play the tourny, but it's hard to justify the trip alone.

If anyone thinks they might be game on playing, let me know. It'd be cool to split gas and hotel fees. It's a super fun tourny on a super fun course.

Sep 02 2009, 02:33 PM
Sorry Chad. I'm only leaving on Thursday because I have to work in Salisbury Friday morning.

Also, the registration has been full for several days. I know you could chance it by just showing up like D-Tuck did last year. But that's an awfully long drive to take a chance.

If I hear of anyone else going that you could ride with, I'll let you know. I'm sure that VW gets 3x the gas mileage than my Envoy does anyway!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Lumberton's October Monthly has been moved to Sunday. There is a big festival in the park on Saturday that makes a tourney impossible. I know that there is a lot of DG in NC this month and many of you may be making it to Greenville, but if you aren't, make it west to LBP.

I miss the Castle. Haven't been east since August. Grad school and illness has kept me in Lumberton way too much!!! I hope to see you guys in November if I don't see you in Lumberton this SUNDAY!!!

I thought I would applaud the many Port City Playas that cashed at this weekends CPO.

Scuba Steve and myself finished 1-2 in Pro Masters, taking the full $200 purse.

Clay Bomb gets his first sanctioned win in Adv Masters with CDL's own Brant Calkin finishing 2nd.

Roney gets 3rd in Intermediate and Gabe Calkin takes 5th.

Alan Layh takes 3rd place in Rec for a nice sanctioned cash. Nice showing all.

No I was -1 on hole 11. I took two 6's on hole 16. To sum it up. I was 2 back of Steve with 4 to play (18 thru 3) I finished 5-3-2-3. Steve finished 3-2-2-2. My short game went to crap in the wind but Steve really earned it.
