I have a couple more agenda items for the mtg. Hope its not too late.

1. having a Bio page for each member on the website. I made up a first draft of one that I'll bring. Same basic mold as others I've seen.

2. Kure Beach is pushing for a new park. Let's get our club in the mix for another potential course. I'll bring the newspaper article.

OK Kids, the scoreboard has been wiped clean. I have also cleaned up the scoreboard page as well and put the 2007, 2006, & 2005 results in thier own archive. I have added the Rec division to the page and am waiting on DG to send me the payout schedule for posting. For those that do not know HTML, this was a rather large undertaking but one that needed to be done to clean up this part of the site.
Now we are ready to start a new year with a clean slate. Let's make 2008 the biggest and best yet. Great meeting last night with a ton of things acomplished. The meeting schedule has been set for the year and I would like to thank D'cun and family for hosting last night on such short notice.

Regarding the discussion we had last night about possible getting baskets from PM, I did a search before contacting friends that work there. Matthews is adding a course at Squirrel Park and had a similar idea.

Basically, PM is keeping them up until 2010. Here is the link:
http://www.charlottedgc.com/forum/printer_friendly_posts.asp?TID=671

I guess if the mayor can't get them, it would be tough for me to get them.

It sure would be nice to play "Wellness Park" one time. Maybe they'll open it up to the public once they're gone. I think I'll try to check it out when I go back to Charlotte.

Just throwing it out there...if we need to hold an additional short meeting someplace to talk. or discuss... thats fine...BUT had mentioned late last year about a possible players party Sat. night after rounds 1-2 of Azalea..... any thoughts on an official players party. I know REEL CAFE rents their 2nd floor bar out for I THINK about 250 for 2-4 hours i believe it is. i know one of the owners and might could get it worked out better... or possibly donated and maybe some apps etc..... instead of cash or sign donation from them.....as long as people might show up and buy a few beers i know I can probably get it hooked up. ANY thoughts or ideas? Like I said, if we need to have a meeting at a watering hole, or whatnot we can.... but just forgot to mention and ask Tuesday.

jmonny
Mar 07 2008, 03:37 PM
I'm not against players parties but I'm more one to just have it at someones house rather than deal with planning, organizing and maybe paying for a venue. The fewer obligations that weekend the better.

Regarding the monthly I want a CasTTle sprint.

Baskets will be in the shorts both rounds and what I want to do is play 8 & 15 from an alt pad both rounds. #8 from up on the landing zone where we played it during Azalea after the flood, there's a great transition from short 7 there we never use. #15 from the zone near the gazebo. I'd like to do this both rounds but I'll go with the majority. I think we'll save over an hour with this setup.

Lemme know what you think. I don't want it to be too confusing with too many alt pads but I think this is a good trial run.

Is this IG monthly a one time deal? I never got to play it before they took out the baskets and I'd like to. However, I'm going to the High Country Throwdown that weekend and won't be able to make it.

Also, anyone playing this weekend? I'll be in town this weekend and will want to play some Payne.

I might be around tomorrow for doubles, but not sure...If I may make a suggestion for conversation...I hate to since I wont be there. But I'd like raise the discussion about the Cali rule. I think that with the Pro/Am format, the Pro Cali already has a HUGE advantage, so to allow the $5 option seems to really put it over the top. Id love to see that rule go away. Just my thoughts. Thanks guys. I appreciate what you do.

all agenda items have to be e-mailed or presented to Scott by the friday before the meeting. so if you would like us to discuss a topic just see scott crouch before the Sept. meeting. the one putt inside 33ft was specifically designed to counter this very subject.

Fair enough... However, we were allowing the option before we started the Pro/Am thing. (Which I didn't even like then, but at least there would be other two pro teams) Now the Cali can ONLY be a pro. Not as bad when its just one extra shot per hole. But when your a two pro team and you get the same amount of shots as the Pro/Am teams...whos not going to pay the extra $5? I can think of one scenario where someone wouldnt pay the extra 5. Thats the person on the bubble that knows they cant win even with extra shots. Making the rule especially bad. Insanely beneficial to the good players and not even worth it for those on the Am line...again...just opinions.

Anytime. i just hope you know (an i assume you do) that the club (which consists of your freinds) tries really hard to come up with the best and most fair way to run our doubles, monthlies, and points series. all we are trying to do is grow disc golf in New Hanover County and i do appreciate your input. i wish we could get more from you when the subject's are being discussed.

RORE
Aug 06 2008, 03:44 PM
This is peaceful, honestly. Please read this as if I was standing in front of you talking to you like I always do. Not with some inferred tone that it sounds like your reading the rest of them with.

"not sure what you expect from us" DG

To talk about it.

The one putt inside 33ft was specifically designed to counter this very subject. DG

Not exactly, your right about it being somewhat of an equalizer. But thats the standard doubles rule that we adopted for random draw doublesprior to the $5 option rule or the Pro/Am format. Which is what "this very subject" is about.

"most fair way to run our doubles, monthlies, and points series." DG

-Just the very few things that I have had a hand in...
Doubles: Clubs Idea- Cali player gains an advantage by adding 5 dollars back into his own pocket. (a little sassy, sorry /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)
My Idea- do away with the option...Club rule stands...Which is fantastic if it IS actually the groups decision. Im just not convinced that it is yet. Changes have been made to the doubles format and now the rule applies a little differently than it did in the beginning...when it was agreed on.
Monthlies: Clubs Idea- Pay 55% of the field. I opposed it, to much criticism. With a "this is the clubs decision, obviously you see competition differently than the rest of us." Shortly after, it was changed to my suggested percentage.
Points Series: Clubs decision: Include all monthly points in overall total. Pay out a trophy to THE winner at the endrules got printed on the website.
My idea-Only use 8 events because not everyone is going to make 12 monthlies, making the winner someone who may have never won a single one...Include a skins match at the end of the year to make the 2,3 and 4th place spots worth achieving. Making it more interesting if someone is running away with it. Rules changed.

My point- Not that you do a bad job, the club does a fantastic job. You guys really do, I have always praised you and been proud to be associated with you. But sometimes we try stuff that just doesnt work. Or we get the ball rolling and the main idea is good, but the details are a little fuzzy. I have not, and will never DEMAND change. I will only state my opinion, and if you guys like it, we will TRY them out. If you guys completely redid the points series, or changed the payout, thats fine. Because we tried it out and can work out the kinks. Thats how I view everything we doas a process of always getting better. Just because there has been a meeting about something doesnt set it in stone?

bgwvdave
Aug 06 2008, 06:15 PM
rory there is no implied tone what so ever my point is simply this. you are constantly second guessing the decisions made my your friends and active club memebers. we are not mind readers. we discussed the doubles format in length with good freinds of yours adding what they thought is fair. if you do not aggree with it then that is fine. but we made a decision based on the information provided at the time. this is a discussion board and that is what it is for. but there is no way we can make you happy with your wishes about doubles unless you come to meetings and let us know your opinions. plain and simple. no implied attitude not offense to yuor statements. i think you may be guilty of the same thing you are thinking i am. i type a little more matter of factly than i am in person. that is my fault but i don't know any other way. i think me an you have been thru this same thing more than once. no worries Rory you will always be my buddy but you have to see what i am trying to say

Please calrify this statement!

nothing is set in stone correct.... this is a discusion board aggreed.... it is my opinion that this is a subject to be discussed at meeting face to face not a round about discussion on a public forum. just my opinion. I have to go run doubles more on this later.

What I'm saying is, there was a discussion on the $5 option rule, it passed. At a different meeting, there was a discussion on changing the format to Pro/Am. <u>I was at that meeting</u> and know that the cali rule applying to this format was NOT discussed. Now that we are doing the Pro/AM thing and have had some experience with a few Cali's, is it worth a discussion and revote? My opinion is that it is. And maybe everyone would still vote for it. But if I was sure that everyone loved the rule, I wouldnt bother with any of this. My hope is that there might be someone that thinks I make a little sense and maybe we should talk about it, even if Rory is not at the meeting. My situation with owning a business and having a wife with a 40 hour a week retail job, and a son to keep up with, doesnt allow allot of free time. So if I said to you (as a member)..."I can never come to a disc golf meeting" would you say "well then, your not allowed to have an opinion"? I doubt it, maybe you would say, "Well if you cant be there and would like something to be discussed, we can add it to next months agenda." If I had said, "Hey guys, do me a favor and change the cali rule at the meeting tonight!" That would be worth the reaction that I have gotten. But all I asked is if it could be discussed.

"You are constantly second guessing the decisions made my [by] your friends and active club memebers. we are not mind readers."

How is an opinion second guessing? That seems to be a reoccurring theme, but not sure what you mean. And not sure what the mind readers thing is about. Disc golf is just a hobby to me, and whatever you guys decide, Im just along for the ride. Am I rhyming a little?I know my opinions are strong sometimes, and I do appreciate your enthusiasm, but weve gone down this road before because there seems to be this come to the meetings or shut up idea out there. And maybe that's just how it is, and how it should be for radical ideas. But this is unbelievably basic and shouldnt need me to be there to say all of the things that I have already said on here. And maybe after all of this, still nobody cares and everyone likes it just the way it is. And that is perfectly fine, I still like to have opinions from time to time.

Luckily it is slow this morning. here we go

Now that we are doing the Pro/AM thing and have had some experience with a few Cali's, is it worth a discussion and revote?

sure.

But if I was sure that everyone loved the rule, I wouldnt bother with any of this. My hope is that there might be someone that thinks I make a little sense and maybe we should talk about it,

the only 2 people i have heard discuss it never come to meetings 1 isn't even a member

My situation with owning a business and having a wife with a 40 hour a week retail job, and a son to keep up with, doesnt allow allot of free time

understandable but we all have lives and make sacrafices to make the club some kind of priority. i see you find time to make doubles and monthlies when money is invovled. maybe sacrafice some palying time to contribute to the club. (a little sassy but meant in good fun i still like you no matter how mad you might be)

I think that with the Pro/Am format, the Pro Cali already has a HUGE advantage, so to allow the $5 option seems to really put it over the top. Id love to see that rule go away.

Hey guys, do me a favor and change the cali rule at the meeting tonight!" That would be worth the reaction that I have gotten. But all I asked is if it could be discussed.

you would like to see it go away. pretty strong opinion and sounds like second guessing to me. but hey that is just me.... oh wait i was not the only one that read it that way maybe it is not just me,

And not sure what the mind readers thing is about.

it is about every active memeber of the club feeling one way about a subject and you feeling another so it makes it impossible for is to present your side of a discussion with you not there

come to the meetings or shut up

absolute BS and not fair at all. if you want us to discuss the cali rule changing ,for weekend doubles (if there is even going to be a person who steps up and runs it ) then all you have to do is what i told you 2 pages ago. send any agenda items you would like discussed to Scott Crouch the friday prior to the next meeting. ANY club memebers agenda items get discussed and subsequently voted on (ONLY BY THE MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE) at that meeting. I have never tried to imply that any member does not have a say in any club endevors.

I still like to have opinions from time to time.

Nov 05 2008, 03:46 PM
we could be playing golf by April. the Master Plan should be approved late January early February and the construction should start in Mid March. the course has been roughly layed out. we have 18 holes. the shortest is hole 6 it is 135 feet up hill and the longest is hole 16 at 600 feet uphill anhyzer. Russell Schwarz should be finanlizing the design in the next few weeks and we should have GPS points with holes drawn on a PDF within the next week or so. i will post this as soon as i get it.

Did you get more land to work with? I thought I remember hearing it was going to be a really short course or possibly only 9 holes.

bgwvdave
Nov 05 2008, 06:50 PM
that was our concern initially but we got a great course desginer. the great thing with densley wooded courses is that you can put fairways in close proximity to each other. we do have the ability to leak over into some wooded property that is owned by the school the park is adjacent to but it is nothing significant. i was very impressed with the efficient use of the land we had. i think it will be a very good intermediate course which is exactly what we need in new hanover county.

DCC
Nov 05 2008, 08:16 PM
You definitely need a not only a beginner friendly course, but just another course in general. I played at Castle twice last weekend and it was packed both times, which is great to see, but it would be nice to alleviate some of that traffic. Also, I can't help to think the difficulty of the Payne might have turned off some newbies. I know I'm glad I was introduced to the game at good ole Kentwood.

I know I've played at least one of Russel's courses, Lake Reidsville, which is a great course except for two holes. I know you probably would have wanted Harold (my favorite course designer) to design it, but I have confidence that Russel will do a great job. I'm excited. Thanks for the update, BTW.

Toomes,
thanks for the inquiry. we are extremely excited about the DVD and i think alot of N.C. Golfers are going to want a copy. we still have to finalize the content but hype will begin very soon.

as for the purposed courses
arrowhead is still on hold - the county froze the funds with the economic downturn. but i have heard that they may be closer to freeing up the money soon. what that means with county beaurocracy i have no idea.

Kure Beach is a go. they have spoken to Innova and we think Russell Schwarz will be our guy to come down and lay us out a course. the Mayor of Kure Beach is "very excited" about the projuect and they are meeting next week to really get the ball rolling. with the city having access to the money that they have (over $125,000) and so much less red tape to deal with i am thinking this course will be in the ground very soon (hopefully by the fall of this year)

of course we will be keeping everyone a breast all that we have going on. thanks for checking in Toomes!!

Let's get some turnout for this. You don't have to speak or answer questions, but it would be nice to have a bigger group than the bicyclists this time. Then after we can go somewhere and watch UNC beat State.

Starting this July and continuing through 2010 and hopefully beyond we will be meeting evey first Tusday of the Month at
Papa Bellas Pizza, Bar and Grill

Conveniently Located right down the road from the course in the Plaza where Food Lion and Burger King is. Tim the Manager was stoked on the idea and i am stoked we can support our tournament sponsors and grow the business relationship.
