we have a big workday coming up saturday and i am hoping to have a good turnout so we can knock this task out in time for doubles. here are a few special things i thought we will need to do this thing right. i am hoping some of you have
1) a string line
2) a level
3) Shovels (at least 3 or 4)

i know we have
1) post hole diggers - D'cun (would be nice to have 2)
2) Wheel Barrows - Monty, Fig, Russel
3) Sledge Hammer - Monty
4) Hammers - Monty

i will be bringing the lumber, Galvanized nails, and any other items we may need. also there was talk of Gabe's Auger which i will find out if we will have access to. anything else anyone can think of please post it here and lets get ready to DO WERK!

Yes, i am currently looking for suppliers of the Silt Cloth we need to finish the short run. the Sandbags will be delivered this thursday. i do not see it taking more than 20 or 30 minutes to finish the project with as few as 2 or 3 people. i would like to have it completed sometime this upcoming weekend (dependent on finding the silt cloth) i will be intouch as soon as i have nailed down all the essential materials.

Scott can you check your nc e-mail?

i found silt cloth. it is sold in 3 sizes of rolls below are the prices. i am leaning towards the 4' roll but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

3' x 300' = $62.99
4' x 300' = $86.95
6' x 300' = $119.95

26408
Jan 22 2008, 09:49 AM
I would definately like to finish it this weekend as well, BWD I think the 4ft. x 300ft. roll would be good. Thanks for finding that stuff and doing the legwork!

Guy's we have a work day this saturday. it is to build a tee box around hole 5's tee and to finish up hole 12's retaining wall. does anyone have a grasp on what materials we will need for the hole 5 project?

bgwvdave
Jan 29 2008, 07:14 PM
what's on the work agenda?

right above monty. should be a pretty quick day we are on point to start at 8:00 or 9:00 i will be really getting started tomorrow planning. sorry for the last minute stuff.

bgwvdave
Jan 31 2008, 04:26 PM
o.k. i went and sized up the project and these are my thougts.

It looks like we might as well just frame a retention wall along the whole length of both sides of the tee box so
we will need at least 4 possibly 6 verticle supports to frame the walls either 2 or 3 each side (i am pretty sure it will be 3 each side one on each end and one in the middle. to brace)

the verticle posts should be around 5 feet long (3 feet in the ground a 2 foot tall) so do we have any materials that we can use or do i need to pick some up?

the good news is i have plenty of lumber to frame the wall so all we will need are the following materials

at least 1 wheel barrow
a few shovels
Post hole diggers or Gabe or rudy's auger
some caulk
a hammer
some scissors or sheers (to cut the silt cloth)

Hagan097
Jan 31 2008, 04:36 PM
Sounds good. I think I have 5 timbers left at home, that we used last week for the retaining wall on 12. Appears as though we'll need one more?

bgwvdave
Jan 31 2008, 04:41 PM
Awesome Scott! if i have said it once i have said it a thousand times D'cun you are the man!!! maybe we can get away with 5 and use the steps on the left side of the tee as one of the supports.

Jan 31 2008, 07:57 PM
i have some different kinds of caulk and a gun. what do we need it for?

bgwvdave
Feb 01 2008, 11:39 AM

Guys,
we have a workday this saturday at 9:00 a.m.. on the agenda are

1) Making the changes to and finalizing Phase 1 of the Hole 12 project
2) clearing ditches on the course to promote water flow in the event of hard rain

what we will need is pretty basic. we will need

1) multiple wheel barrows and shovels for the hole 12 project
2) lots of hard rakes for the ditch patrol

this work day should not be very long. if we have enough people we will break into groups. Hole 12 should take less than 1 1/2 hours. ditches could take all day but i think if we do it in stages we should be good. we may focus on the front 9 saturday and see where we are then think about a good stopping point.

all the help we can get would be greatly appreciated.

Roll Call?

I'll be there from 9-12, have to leave at that time to get Haley signed up for softball b/4 2.

If we start on the front with ditches I think we should start with 9 & 6 followed by 7 & 8. With 8 just clearing out the large "damns" created by debris coming together and blocking free flow.

Also, has the organization of the ash tray signage been implemented? (maybe it already has been done-I haven't been out there for over a week and a 1/2).

See you in the morning.

Jammin!! see ya out there

on another note, i had a great conversation with Wayne Moher the county parks superintendant on Thurday about getting some rock out at the park to put on the front of the teepads to address some of the eroison we are experiencing out there. he is going to take a look at a few of them and put some rock down on a few test areas to see how it works.

his concern (which is very valid) is that if we just dump some rock in front of the tee pads it might get strown all over the place. one idea he had was to build a frame to enclose it. now this might be necessary in a few places (hole 1 comes to mind) but probably not on all of them. so when we see it out there please fill free to give me any feedback you might have. if it works well we should haev no problem getting the materials we need.

Another GREAT workday by the N.H.D.C. thanks to Clay, Rudy, Moncropilis, Fig, Rory, Sjur and A-dubbs, for your contributions. the Front 9's fairways are as clean and fair as ever. if there are limbs in the fairway on the front it is becasue they are just to high for me to get to on a extension ladder with a pole saw.

Hole 9's rain ditch at the fairway now has a Sock towell drainage hose installed and has been covered with sand to basically conceal the ditch totally. hole 12's ditch has been cleaned and the retaining wall has been extended all the way to the steps. once again GREAT work to all that showed. i could not be prouder of the work that the club puts in time and time again. you guys are the best!!

I missed any discussions about any proposals for hole 1's damaged sleeve. What are the thoughts about this?

Jun 17 2008, 01:36 PM
clay has an idea for repairing the sleeve. doesn't have to be perfect, just enough for the pole to easily go in and back out without getting stuck. what about something of higher visibility for the exposed sleeve to possibly avoid this happening again?

You can purchase a small metal mixing bowl at Walmart or Bed Bath Beyond. A 2 quart bowl is $2.99 and doesn't rust. It is very easy it see, and it will take some abuse. All you do is drill a hole in the top and use a bolt to keep it on, upside down.

I will not be there. Haley has a game at 9 and then another one at 12.

I've been seeing some poison ivy on the course cropping up. I'd like to get some round up and try to head this off b/4 it gets going good. Do we still have some (Round Up) in the shed?

We moved around 4000+ gallons of water off Holes 15 16 and 17. There is now a vast improvement to these holes and with a dry forecast for this week i am hoping to see a big improvement by this weekend.

Rudy is tentively trying to organize another workday this weekend to continue pumping water off hole 15 behind the basket. he may rent the submersable pump we used this weekend again to continue the process. if anyone is interested let us know.

I would like to have another workday in march but with the jacksonville tournament the last weekend of the month it may be hard. stay tuned for details i will let everyone know what is going on as soon as possible. Thanks again to all that showed up you guys are the best!!!!

While i am a big fan of taking the Carolina summers off from manual labor Fall is almost here and it is time to get back to making the Castle the best maintained course in the state.

The next Club Worday will be Saturday Sept. 4th at 9:00 a.m.
We will be starting the hole 12 project back up and should have it completed well before 2011. this particular workday will focus on finishing setting the posts for the wall as well as putting a few more braces on a few spots that are supporting alot of weight.

We where going to reset the raised basket on hole 10 as well as sure up the tee pad on hole 12 but we will defer those tasks to our freinds in the CDL.

We are hitting the ground running this fall so stay tuned to everything we have going on and fill free to come help. it is always a good time. and hit me up if you have any questions.

So we have our first fall workday this Saturday weather permitting. our main goal is to get a few braces put in place on the existing retaining wall we have on hole 12 and a little trimming of the fairways to get the course looking good. we could really use a set of post hole diggers. other than that i think we are pretty set for equipment. i am hoping to have at least 4 people out there to make happen what i want to get done. Hope to see everyon out there.

9:00 a.m. Saturday Sept. 4th.
meet at parking lot at hole 1
