I was just informed by J Gary that Indiana got the bid for PASDGC for 2008. Which is good considering i've already started lining up new sponsors for this coming year. I promise that this will be the best Indiana tourney that we've ever held.

More information about this event will follow.

I received the same news yesterday afternoon. That's awesome! Rumor has it that some club(s) in eastern PA were bidding for the '08 event, however, none could match the proposal submitted by the Indiana Disc Links Association.

Kudos to Michael D and IDLA......and congratulations on your winning bid!

I want to take a tumble down 18's fairway when there is ice on the hill :-)

That hill is where i learned how to snowboard. From the lodge to Utah, go figure. Those tow ropes haven't been used in probably 20 - 25 years.

As PDGA State Coordinator for PA, I was responsible for decision on the event.

It was my original hope that the PASDGC event could alternate location on a yearly basis. Additionally, the event has been held in the center portion of the state for the last several years and the eastern portion of the state contains a great number of competitive golfers. The lack of proximity and secluded location of Indiana, PA is a deterrent for many in the eastern potion of the state, and the Open attendance of only 16 golfers at last year's event is a concern.

However, I believe that the IDLA has the infrastructure and sponsorship already in place from last year's event to build on. From what I gather, the local business sponsorships are already secured to support this year's event. The other club had not run PDGA-sanctioned tournaments with sponsorship in several years and I got the impression from reading their bid that the tournament was contingent on "potential" local vendors. Additionally, there were planned course improvements (concrete teepads, tee signs, directional signs and kiosk) that I'm not 100% sure would be in place.

Bottom line is that the IDLA has a finished course and has run several highly successful PDGA-sanctioned tournaments with significant local sponsorship. The other club now has a year to demonstrate similar and will be given top consideration to hold the PA Disc Golf Championships in 2009.
