Hi,
We're 2 UK disc golfers on a tour of the USA hitting as many courses as we can in 4 months. We started down in Miami on the 28th of August and are now up in Wisconsin @ Blueberry Hill, and leaving out of San franisco on 9th January. We just hit our 100th course at Sandy Point, Lac du Flambeau on Thursday.
We are managing to get around most courses with maps on site & by following our man compass when none available and also by meeting the locals & hooking up with them for a round or two.
The most helpful & best way was by playing with the locals we've met, which I can't thank enough for showing us around your courses. Showing us the various tees which we would'nt have found by ourselves.
What I'm posting for, is I'm kindy asking for future help with the rest of the courses we're going to be playing on our journey. As I've said, the best games we've played so far is with the locals & if we can post where we're heading & some of the courses we are going to hit in advance, hopefully we can hook up & you can share some of your knowledge ;)
Also, just for our info, if you have played a round with us or just bumped into us as we / you were leaving / arriving, can you post here with your name & the course we played together.
I will compile a list of scores as general dg info, aces, birdies, OBs etc... of how we get on through out the trip. Just for you stat whores out there :)
Take care,
Scott & Paul

Nice, sounds like alot of fun. If you come through Western Iowa-Eastern Nebraska, I'd love to show you one of my favorite courses. Treasure Cove DGC in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Yeah, I think we will be passing that way. We're heading next to St. Paul's & then South via I35 & somehow getting to Colorado possibly via I80 / I76.
Probably a week or 2 from now.

Nov 02 2007, 11:14 PM
If you travel thru Emporia Kansas, you can hit up 2 great courses in one park....right off I35

If your heading to Colorado from St.Paul, Minnesota, you definately want to hit I-80 west.

Nov 03 2007, 07:58 AM
I would think Minneapolis, Desmoines, Kansas City, then head west to Colorado or south to Tulsa. That should get you another 50 courses. That would be a pretty insane roadtrip if you ask me.

If you pass through Des Moines, which you most definitely will since you are coming down I-35, you will definitely need to make a stop here. I think that Walnut Ridge is closed for the season, but I could be wrong. But Ewing, Pickard and Grand View are all worth playing. If you want to stick inside the metro then I would say play Ewing first and then Grandview second. The added bonus is that they are only about 3 or 4 miles apart. If you don't mind an extra 15 minute drive...you can head south down to Pickard, which happens to be one of the best courses in the state. Just ask Tank, he loves that course.
Then you can head on out to Omaha/Council bluffs and play a round or two with Tank. It's only about an hour and a half from Des Moines to Omaha/Council Bluffs.

we have 148 courses in tx. you could hit a bunch down the I-35 corridor!!

Definatley hit Tulsa, Ok. 14 or so courses in themetro area. Mohawk courses are great!

Nov 03 2007, 06:26 PM
Colorado golfers are pretty much always looking for an excuse to show off our courses :) Depending on which way you're heading, if you come in I-76 then you should definitely hit Fort Morgan, which is home to one of our A-tiers every year. From there you have many choices, but there are several courses in the Denver metro area to check out. Unfortunately all of the mountain courses will be closed since it's now ski season...
If you don't mind posting to another board, I'd recommend going to www.milehighdiscgolf.org (http://www.milehighdiscgolf.org) and posting there. Most of the CO golfers don't check PDGA but do check Mile High. Will PM with my info in case I forget to check this post again...

Thx for the info guys. We in St Paul for the next couple of days or so, any recomendations for which courses to hit?
We prefer to do 18 holes rather than 9 just as a guide to go by, but if theres an awesome 9 we just have to play, let us know :)
Anyone about for a game or 2 in the area tomorrow?
Thx

Nov 03 2007, 10:26 PM
From Southeast to Northeast, 18-hole courses except where noted: CP Adams (Hastings), Oakwood (Cottage Grove), North Valley (Inver Grove Hts), Kaposia (S. St. Paul), Acorn (Roseville), Lakewood Hills-14 (White Bear Lake), Blue Ribbon Pines (East Bethel). Hyland Ski Area (Bloomington) is closed for ski season. Lions Park (Shakopee) is a nice open course but not near any other 18s but Staring Lake in Eden Prairie is nearby but 9 holes.

If you want sweet nine holers...when you come through Des Moines, there is a nine holer called Southwoods Park. One of the best nine hole courses ever designed. I live about three blocks down the road from it. So, if you decide to play it, let me know...I will see what I can work out to meet you guys out there.

If you make it over to the West Coast - Oregon has a fantastic DG community and some pretty sick courses. Whistler's Bend / Milo McGiver / Pier / Adair / Dexter are the top five IMO. Our local message board gets a lot of traffic, ODSA.COM, and there will be plenty of folks wanting to give you a tour.

After that were heading down to Des moines for a couple of days, so hopefully will catch up with some locals there :)

This is Tom McManus, we met at the Darkside of the Disc tourney on October 27 in Kirkland, IL. Did you have a chance to play Token Creek and Hiestand? What other Wisconsin courses did you hit on the way to Sandy Point? Make sure you hit Des Moines, they have some great courses out that way. Good luck with your travels.

If stopping in KC - Water Works is a must play. Other local notables include Cliff Drive, WyCo, and Blue Valley. Can't really go wrong with Rosedale (2 courses) or Swope for that matter. Here's a link to the KC club website: KCFDC.org (http://KCFDC.org)
Cheers!

Hi Tom,
Yup we played Hiestand, I lost a white star orc on hole 14 :( The wind got a hold of it & scooped it across 2 fairways over hole 2 & left down the hill. I tried to find it but the rough claimed it :) & thats the same 1 I hoofed into the river & Kirkland. It just wasn't mean to be...
I'm not sure on Token creek. Where is that course, or does it go by another name?

Hi,
Yup we played Tuscawilla Park a nice course that 1.
I also lost a disc there. This time a Star roadrunner, on hole 10. It hooked right & almost did a 180 on me right into the thick [censored]. I tried looking in there, but after finding a couple of homeless nests in there & called it & took an OB.

Just spent 5 days around Des Moines. An awesome selection of courses there. A big thanks to Russ & Dave for showing us about the place.
Were now heading to Cedar Rapids tomorrow for a couple days & then after that Davenport & then St Louis & then Kansas City & Wichita.
Basically we're trying to kill time till next weekend because we're trying to make it to the comp next weekend in Wichita.
So we're trying to find 18 courses between here & there. ( 3 a day ). If anyone has any recommendations along that route I would love to hear them. :)
Sorry Schweb, Not heading over to western Iowa. We were thinking about it, but not enough courses to fill that space of time in that direction :(

WyCo/Wyandotte (in KC, Kansas) is nice as well and right off I-70.

Total 133. Not 180 at all but oh well its a few!!
I know we just breezed through some states with only 1 or so course played, but we are on a timescale & we had appointments & stuff to make with people & comps played & injury we just drove on. Dont take it personally we didnt play much in yer hood :P
Awesome Job thus far!!!
Sorry we didn't get the chance to meet at CNY Championships...I had no idea you two were doing a 4 month US tour.
Moving forward, next time you make your trek across the US, be sure to check out Campgaw Mountain in Northern, NJ you passed it on your way into NY and Warwick, Wolfe Woods, FDR, Kisco, J-Park, and Hyzer Creek as you went through NY. All courses are well worth the detours.
Also just to correct your list - Anson B Nixon is in PA, and Rutgers Douglass College (you earned props for spelling it right!) is in NJ.
Have a safe and enjoyable rest of your tour..
Most envious,

Anyone have a good idea for where we should divert to hit some good courses? I'm not talking 200 miles for 1 course divert but any within an hour or so of the route.
Also as a tourist thing anything we just have to see along the way?
Thx people ;)

Hey Scott and Paul,
My buddy and I played 9 holes in DeKalb, IL with you guys after the Darkside of the Disc tournament back on October 27th. It was a real pleasure playing that casual round with you guys and I'm glad that you hit up 20 or so courses in Wisconsin! Keep in touch if you need anything else!

Colorado has the most breweries of any state. There's the Coors brewery which isn't really worth it for the free beer, but definitely worth it to see beer mass brewed. Tons of other micro-brews around Ft. Collins and Boulder, especially. Stop by a welcome center when you cross in to Co and they should have a pamphlet "Colorado Front Range Breweries." Here's a website where you can search for breweries in cities or areas:
http://www.colorado.com/places.php?section=16
if you're music freaks, the infamous Red Rocks Amphitheater also isn't far from Denver and well worth the trip.
We also have a freaking huge REI in downtown Denver if you need to pick anything up :)
As for the disc golf:

Arrrgghh its soo hard to choose.
We're in Colorado atm, played Expo Pk, Lakewood Dry Gulch, Johnny Roberts DGC, Birds nest & Badlands.
Tomorrow we're gonna play 1 in Fort Collins, then take the 34 West through the Rocky Mountain National Park, then play down the 40 to eventually reach Vail on the 70 west.
Theres been snow on the ground for the last 2 days in Denver, but how are courses along that route? are they snowed under and / or closed for skiing season?

Hey Scott,
If you are from Maldon, Essex, have you ever been to the Balti Bhujon in Maldon? I make it a point to eat some curry there every time I'm over for work.. Good luck in your DG travels!

Hi,
long time no post, but its been grief getting online to update. Were now in California, around sacramento area.
We did Flagstaff & Phoenix which had some really nice courses, then back up to Flagstaff to hit the road towards Vegas. We only got 2 of the courses in there, Sunset Park & Mountain Crest which was a nice distraction of the pretty lights of the strip :) Gonna say hi to Beth who I left before I got back from the garage at sunset park, & big thanks to everyone else who we played with till it was too dark to play on.
Been in Cali now for almost 2 weeks, started down in LA & played the original course Oak grove & punished ourselves for a few rounds @ La Mirada (awesome pro shop) with the locals :) then up to Sylmar & hit a few rounds there till dark.
Then we followed the coast up towards San Fran & played everything on the way till Santa Cruz and had a look at Delavega & just drove on didnt like the look of it [ /JOKE].
Now were up in Sacramento area, we played oak grove (stockton) & shady oaks park (Orangeville) - (awesome pro shop) today. Now we're praying we can get some courses in before it snows & have to move back towards the coast.
Big THANKS to everyone we have played with recently showing us around the courses & letting us in on the cool extra pro holes around your courses.
Will update the list of courses played soon.
