FANTASTIC NEWS - Just today I got approval for 18 holes at Winter Park!!!!!!!!
Bad News - Okay, it's not as easy as plug and play. A lot of the preliminary clearing and classic layout must be abandoned. The county has deemed it unsafe to cut the grass on the steep and often wet and trecherous hills. They can't support it and definitely don't want us amateurs out there doing it. That means moving some holes off the hill and away from the long grass (we can salvage the longest one though). Leaving only areas that we can catch with lawnmowers and weedwhackers. I have been walking it down like crazy, trying like mad to keep some of the fun and extreme nature of the hills and terrain alive in the spirit of Winter Park Disc Golf. I already presented a new layout and that is what sparked the approval to expand to 18 holes. However, the proposed layout needs a bunch of work and fine tuning to pick and choose which holes work out the best. There are 22-23 holes available ranging from extreme to bland, and lots of work required to very little work required. Only 6 of the 11 classic holes will remain, all else are new from last falls ace race, or will be completely new this year.
If you'd like to get involved, please contact me. I could use another set of eyes, and throwers to help pick and refine some of the proposed holes and create the final layout. There aren't always people around to help with the work, so if you want to get involved, you must do it early, we will finalize the layout and begin the install in the next two weeks, there won't be time or resources to change many things later. And we will definitely need help installing! I have handful of volunteers for Saturday June 9th already.
Stay tuned to the website for more updates www.winterparkdiscgolf.com (http://www.winterparkdiscgolf.com)
PLEASE help on the June 9th Work Day if you can find some time. I'll feed and water as many as I can. We NEED wheelbarrows, shovels, saws, rakes, etc. Lots of digging, hauling, and raking.
