I just received the following email from Tom Bant:
Hello my friends,
Sunrise Disc Golf will be open for the 2007 season beginning Saturday, May 19th. Ron and I are holding a tee party this Sunday afternoon. The course is much the same, though we have had to change holes 1 and 10 to make way for a new lift. There's practically no ground cover above three inches at this time of year (won't last long).
Come on up.
I am now in the process of confirming the proposed date for the Sunrise Showdown in August. As soon as I get confirmation, I will proceed with PDGA sanctioning and updating the So Cal Series Schedule.
I really enjoyed hosting this event last year. This event will not be possible without the dedicated help of Ron Brawley and Tom Bant. I am simply the certified official and paperwork pusher. These two guys do the lion's share of the course preparation as well as recruiting the volunteers and sponsors.

Of course with the opening of Wrightwood comes the announcement of the closing of Yucaipa for the summer. Yucaipa will remain closed until baskets are installed permanently. Tim Selinske and Chance Stephens are currently working on designing a new Yucaipa course for year round play.

Sorry to hear that Yucaipa is closing, but having Wrightwood open again is a plus! Kudos to those of you that brought us the temporary Yucaipa course, and it's good to hear that a permanent replacement is in the works. Inland Empire disc golf is growing!
I'm gonna go shopping for some gaiters so I'll be ready for my first trip of the summer to Wrightwood!

Good news on the re-design at Yucaipa. I enjoyed that course and all the holes, but some of them are just too close to picnic bench areas and would be unplayable when the park any sort of crowd going. The 16-17 modification was a good step at taking the people on the edge of the lake out of play. :)
Also great news about Ski Sunrise, one of my favorite courses. I'm ready for a camping weekend of golf up there.

Folks,
The course was beautiful today! I love it up there. The elevation, the view, the obstacles, the way altitude affects your throws. Tom Bant and Ron Brawley had a couple more tees to prepare - but the course is all in and very nice! Redesigned #1 is super - redesigned #10 is planned as a double - double mandy right now (I don't believe in mandatories in design if they can be avoided) but the mandys are not needed for safety - so you could go ahead and play 10 without the mandys - up to you.
Dunapace did a great job on the 18 hole design on this course. I like the final 9 also (Bant's design?). It may be the best disc golf experience in So Cal.
138 has construction so the best way there is 15 to 138, then over 2 small hills, under RR trestle and a quick left onto unmarked Lone Pine Rd. (by contruction sign - within a half mile of 15). Lone Pine hits Wrightwood then wend your way downhill to a left on the 2. Past Jensen's Market (sandwiches and supplies) up to a left on Table Mtn.

I was able to play the Sunrise Course this weekend. I must say the course is in the best shape ever.
Please disregard the above directions provided by Cliff. The directions as posted on the PDGA Course Directory are correct. That is: after traveling through Wrightwood on Highway 2, turn RIGHT on Table Mountain Road and follow to lodge. I did not encounter any construction delays on Highway 138 en route to Highway 2. However, you can indeed turn left on Lone Pine CANYON Road to avoid any potential construction delays on 138. It is scenic drive and after a few extra turns it will eventually take you to Hwy 2. Turn left on to Hwy 2 and continue through Wrightwood.
Tom Bant is urging anyone who is interested in playing the Sunrise course this season to come to the mountain sooner rather than later. The area is currently very dry and the US Forest Service has said they may close down the mountain (including the DG course and campgrounds) if the conditions worsen or if there are ANY fires on the mountain.
Don't delay, play Sunrise today!
The PDGA sanctioning for Sunrise Showdown on August 25 & 26 has been submitted. The entry form should be available on the So Cal website soon. Let's hope the mountain stays open.

Hey - those directions are fine except it is RIGHT on Table Mtn. I guess that 138 can be a delay someimes lately with construction. When in doubt - follow the directions in the directory. Discette has already reviewed those for me.....

I guess Richard is interested in defending his title. I am signed up, and it appears from the early sign-ins that we will have no shortage of Aces. I mentioned on the SDA forum that we should arrange an Aces campsite and that I will get there early Friday morning and be there the whole weekend. Who do you need to contact to reserve a campsite, and how far away from the course are they? When I played it last month I didn't check out the campsite situation.

We went up and played the course on Saturday, there were no weeds! The changes to the layout were interesting too. Hole 1 is totally different now that the tee pad is over to the left, the guardian tree off the tee makes it more challenging. Hole 2 is a bit more difficult with the tee pulled back to the right, but still fairly easy. Hole 10 is an entirely different hole with two pin settings; one at the base of a huge mound to stop sleds from falling off the mountain, the other is at the top of the mound. A very difficult basket location for a 2, and a 3 is not easy either. Hole 11 is still the huge 546' downhill shot, but they added an alternate tee pad on top of the huge mound.
