I just thought I would create a thread for the course in Crowley. I will be updating this thread from time to time to let you all know what is happening in Crowley.

Hey Brice had a great time playing on your card this weekend! I wish I was not so sick or I might have had a better game out there but all in all it was a great experience.Still on of my favorite courses to play. I also heard a rumor that it was all time doubles at the mini's with exception to the second weekend singles!

We will be playing singles the first Saturday of every month.
Bring your own partner doubles the next two Saturdays.
Flip Doubles on the last Saturday of the month.

When did you guys change the sat. format? Wasn't it always singles except for 1 sat. a month was doubles? Are you guys getting better turnouts?

John we have just recently swithed to doubles....For some reason people just seem to show up and play doubles so we figured that we would just make that a weekly thing. You planning on coming out sometime soon.

We have Flip doubles this Saturday if you are interested.

I'm going to slowly ease back into playing. The muscle isn't totally healed, but i'm getting antsy. I played my first round since Xmas while on vacation in Florida early this week. It was flip doubles there and i could tell that nobody wanted the dude in jeans with a painters cap on carrying his discs in a plastic kroger bag. Best part about it was my partner and i won by 3. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D

I'd be more inclined to join you on the flip dubs weekends. I think it's a little more fair to the less experienced. Have to work a few hours in the AM, so it can't be this week.

Good call on dubs more often than singles. You can play singles anywhere. It's nice to see a routine dubs event locally now.

Starting the 7th of March we will be holding the mini weekly ( March 11th is the start of Daylight Savings Time ). Mini will start at 6:00pm and you need to be signed up by 5:55pm and no later. Please plan ahead because when the weather is better and there is more daylight I expect there will be a bigger attendance. We will start at 6:00pm. Sorry if your are late. I am going to be submitting a proposal to the City of Crowley for improvements to the course. We are going to plan on 27 holes with concrete tee pads, marble tee signs imbedded into the concrete, extra sleevs for different pin placements, a practice basket, number plates for the baskets, benches for every hole, trash cans for every hole Is there anything else that you all can think of that might make the course better? I am open to any and all suggestions.

I have played Crowley I believe once maybe twice since the change, I can not say whether I like it or don't because I have not played it that much. I think that if someone takes on a task like Brice has or like Brian at the hill then we should thank them not trash talk them into the ground, but again if its all good fun then no biggie. I only know Longerbone thru a friend of ours and well if he wants Hyzerland or Bricentinial well then so be it. Keep up the good work Sir

Seems most people can complain and shed tears in their count chocula cereal about a course but when it comes time offer advice or lil constructive criticism you can only find them sticking to their preconceived notions or hear say about an old layout of the course.

Offer up some good advice, it will not fall on deaf ears.

I have played most of the courses around DFW and 80% of the baskets at these courses are to the left of the tee. With that theory, they are all hyzerland.

I would like to offer my assistance in helping this course be all that it could be .... I refuse to make any suggestions on the MB. Brice, if you like , we can get together and walk the course .. Just let me know when..

Crowley by no means , is one of the hardest courses in Texas. But it will be ... :D

When you play the long tee pads, then course course plays pretty tough. Since the course has changed, there hasn't been too many rounds out there under par. That is from the long tees. To me that says it can't be real easy. The only tournamnent that has been held out there was in December and the best score from the red tee pads was +3. Nolan Grider, Mike Grider, Chris Flesner, Shawn Robertson and I were all there among many others.

Doug Fritz and I looked at an overhead map of the Crowley course last night and decided that we are going to put some of the original holes back in Crowley to correct some flow issues. These holes that we are going to put back in are some good holes. I think we are going to reinstall Old 4, 5, 6, and 12, but just play it in a different order.

I think that is a very good idea. 5 red was no easy hole, even the white tee could cause problems :D

on a side note, The Crowley Disc Golfers have recently purchased a riding lawnmower for the course. We are going to pick it up on Saturday after the round, so the course should be mowed on Sunday.

We also just purchased 5 more sleeves, so be looking for some baskets to move to different pin positions.

hey Brice did you ever come up with any new layout ideas to fix the flow issues out at crowley or any new hole layouts for the new sleeves?

Eric, I think we did figure out a good layout for the course. We shouldn't have flow issues with the new layout. We are going to be reinstalling some of the old holes, but playing them in a different order.

I also have a proposal ready to turn into the City of Crowley for improvements on the course. It was suggested by the parks board that I try to get the local schools involved, so I contacted Jay Reading to see what we could do to introduce the EDGE program to the Crowley Independent School District.

We are also going to start thinking about forming a disc golf club for the Crowley Disc Golfers. Once the City sees that we are an organization,and not just a group of volunteers, then they will be more apt to providing us with what we need.

We are also going to hit up the local business to see if they would like to sponsor a hole.

Awesome news! I would love to see a club out there and glad to see the direction this is going! Cant wait to see the new layout!

We will be creating a new hole with the same characteristics as that hole to replace it. I think we may have our final layout determined for the course.

That hole has been hit so many times. As much as I like it, it will be good to see it gone. The only tee that actually made that hole fun was the RED. Having to choose between the lay up HYZER or the skinny straight shot over the creek , or the big anny over the trees... That was fun..

This Saturday morning is flip doubles at Crowley. Start time 10:00. $8.00 a man.

Doug Fritz and I have been out at the course everyday this week trying to mow some much needed areas. Most of the holes have been mowed so you shouldn't have any problem trying to find your discs now.

Those of you that want to come play some golf tomorrow, we are going to play flip doubles using the RIPT cards. It should be a good time. Hope to see you all there. 10:00a.m.

I also have 5 more sleeves to put into the ground. We will be doing this within the next couple of weeks. When we put the new sleeves in the ground, the holes will change at that time. I will be sure to let you all know when that time comes.

I was at the course this morning doing some mowing. You can now see basket # 9 when you walk to the top of the hill after you throw. I mowed from the top all the way to the basket, but I didn't go very far past it. I also mowed by a couple of other baskets in the back and a few trails.

Doug and I put 2 new sleeves in the ground yesterday and did some trimming on a few holes. I have 5 more sleeves that need to be put in the ground. We will try to do that this next weekend. We should have the new course design ready to play in about a month or so.

I will call upon the Funkytown Flyers to come help with a massive workday in the near future. Keep looking at this thread for the posted workdays.

Ok Flyers Crowley needs your help. We are going to have a massive work day on Saturday June 16, 2007. There are alot of things that need to be done to the course to prepare for our first B-Tier event in August. I will post a list of things to be done in the near future. We would like to welcome anyone that would like to contribute their time and effort to making the course in Crowley a better playing environment for all players. Please bring all the gardening equipment you have. Weed Eaters, Clippers, Lawnmowers, Rakes, shovels, etc....

We will provide lunch for everyone that helps.
We will play the Saturday morning mini, then start the workday.

We started a concrete tee pad fund last night. We collected $30.00 from people that were there. Everytime we get $125.00 in the fund, we will then put a new concrete tee pad in the ground. We will start with the white tee pads and then move to the red tee pads. The tee pads will be 4ft. in the front, 6ft. in the back, and 12ft. long.

Thanks to all that showed last night. It wasn't a very good turnout, so hopefully more people will show next week.

Looks like the Seabolts are going to purchase the 1st tee pad. It will be hole 1 white tee. Thanks Jerry and Dalton. You guys are awesome!!!!!!!!

For new hole 15 I measured the blue tee over by the old gold tee on current hole 7 (a little to the left of it looking at 15's basket). Let me know what you think of that position.

Every year the City of Crowley puts on a Celebration of Freedom festival on the Saturday after the 4th of July. They will have all kinds of things to do at the park on that day. Games, rides, food, live bands, chili cook off, relay races, etc. This year the city has asked me to run a disc golf tournament. It will be FREE to play and the winners will get a $50.00 gift certificate to somewhere for something.(i don't know). The tournament will start around 2:00 if anybody would like to play. We will play the regularly scheduled mini at 10:00. This week is singles.

On a side note.....we should have the course changed by Saturday so if you would like to come out and play the new holes, then I will see you then.
