SuperDave if I can get some rope, I will probably try to rope off the area between 7 & 8.
Do you think we could use spray paint or something like that instead to mark that part OB if I can't find enough rope for that area?

David Wiggins Jr! Great shootin' at the Crosstown! You beat over half of the Advanced Ams! Keep it up! What a 1st day! We were thinking you might be pushing the leaders around!!!
Wyatt and Andrew tied! Wow, after all those holes and you guys have the same overall score. Will the Mooky's Cup be the tie breaker??
Dave Sr, I have two 150 class z-flicks stashed away for you!
Mike Edwards dominated the field at todays singles round. -8 from the blue tees in the wind. Not too shabby!

Thanks Dave! I'll pass the sentiments on to David. It's that time of year to head to the football field for the distance attempt. I've found that a southwest wind is ideal, so if you are in, i'll be checking the forecasts and will call you when it seems a good day is in the near future. Looking forwar to seeing you at mooky's

Hey Guys,
I have been talking with Greensboro Parks and Rec about disc golf and the overwhelming popularity that we have experienced in Greensboro. There is going to be a few new courses going up in the upcoming years and I wanted to share the information I have recieved.
Barber Park is going to have all holes moved and we are getting tee pads and signs as soon as we get money from the approved bonds. Should be soon (within the 6-12 months) as they are going to start consturction of a new maintence building on #2 and #3s fairway.
Bryan Park has a new development play that includes an 18 hole course. The plan has been approved but no grond as been broken. Within 2 years the course should be complete. We need to follow up with the Bryan Park Facilties Manager (I will provide contact information soon).
Kinnley Park is the newest addition to the Greensboro Park and Rec. This park as not been started, but the approved plans for the park include an 18-hole course. We will also need to follow up with the new park manager (once appointed) to ensure the course does not get cut from the budget.
Additional notes...
Reidsville has an approved bond of $30,000 to produce a world class course itself. City officals met with the designers of Danville's new course to discuss layout options for the new park. I have tried to contact the Danville designers, but have yet to get feedback on this course.
Speaking of Danville they have a new 18-hole course and it looks nice. I plan on make a trip up there later this month to meet the club officals and discuss any volunteer possiblities with the new Reidsville course.
If any one would like to help with the follow up of these courses, feel free to help.
I hope that in a few years (by 2010) Greensboro will be a top notch disc golf community (and I will be a top notch player).
Also, I am interested in a Greensboro Disc Golf Club. I see many novice players on a daily basis in the boro that want to learn and would like to include ourselves with the great Oak Hallow Disc Club. What do you guys think? Saturday events at Barber, Sunday at Oak Hallow? I play in a bunch of PDGA events, but would like to do something...Need help from non-travelers.
Cheers,
Tyson

Andrew and I have only been playing Disc Golf two years. in the beginning there was never a question if you would get a lost disc back. In the past eight months I have had to take disc with mine or Andrews name out of the hands of other people.
Friday was the last Straw. A message was left on the house phone. "the number list on our disc"
The message was
"Andrew Coggin if this is your real number I have your Disc BiT*H"
Who would leave a message like that for an 11 year old. or is it because he is a world champion. What has happen to Disc Golf??????????????
The coward blocked his number. I will be contacting Bell South and the police.
As Andrew's father I am ready hurt someone.
As a disc Golfer I am ashamed.
wyattcoggin
May 21 2007, 06:48 PM
Well just talk to Winston-Salem police. they say this is no crime. you can talk vulgar to 11 year old. Bell south can't get thru. yet.
what would you do????
wyattcoggin
May 21 2007, 08:52 PM
As a side note. all Andrew knows is that someone found a Disc with his name on it. and left a message that was not so nice. Basiclly saying he would not get it back.
The sad part about this whole thing is he has not lost a disc in a while. This has to be a Disc he sold to someone. and they didn't take his name off of it.

Thanks Tyson, I will pass on to Andrew your comments. He is being a better person about the whole than myself.
My reason for bring this up is hopefuly the new comers will hear someone talking about this, and understand that we have common courtesy rules that we play by.
We try to return lost disc.
We don't talk when people are throwing.
We take care of the course
And we are polite to one another

Superdave,
In 1999 I was still racing bicycles, so anyone playing back then must be an "old -timer". I do recall this guy who was pretty good when I started playing in 2002 or so, but again, he must have been pretty old because he used to need a golf cart to get around. Haven't seen him around the course much lately. Maybe he went into an old timers home or something.
I just checked. That was PREHISTORIC times. The PDGA doesn't even have tournament results back that far. That guy must be a legend by now.

Barber Park will Reopen on Thursday, Oct. 25th at 8am.
Here is an article from the Greensboro News and Record:
GREENSBORO -- Barber Park will reopen to the public at 8 a.m. on Thursday, the city announced today.
The city closed Barber Park June 18 after construction crews found soils that they suspected might be contaminated. The park was closed while the city assessed the soils.
Hazardous Substance & Waste Management Research Inc. concluded in a report to the city that, based on the sampling and analytical results, the soils at the park pose no significant human health risk. HSWMR also noted that construction, occupational and recreational activities can safely continue in the areas that have been evaluated to date, according to a news release.
The area north of the amphitheater on the eastern side of the park entrance remains fenced while additional testing is conducted to comply with requirements of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Tests in some areas showed limited impacts from certain metals and common petroleum-based chemicals. Those areas will also remain fenced as more testing is done.
Once the testing is complete, the site analysis will be finalized. The construction area on the west side of the park entrance will remain fenced to prevent access to the construction area.
The city will share detailed information about the test results during a public meeting at the Simkins Pavilion at Barber Park on Oct. 30 at 6:30 pm. City staff and consultants involved in the testing and analysis of the soils will answer questions.

Two rounds of Doubles is done like this...
Seperate the turn out into 2 pools A and B by ability, randomly draw teams and play round 1.
The high scorer from Round 1 in pool A is paired with the low scorer in pool B for Round 2.
After two rounds the person that has the lowest score for both rounds wins.
Sounds confussing, but it is easy to accomplish.

look at it this way.both you and your partner keep the team score as your own for both rounds. add the scores together.
This the how it was done at the horizon and Creek side Ice bowls last year.

May also have no pools, play singles the first round and doubles the second, pairing best round with the worst round from the 1st round. We will see what the people want.

Welcome to our state...
Although Johnson Street is a great course, there is another great course (well there is several) that you may want to hit up instead. Burlington, NC offers 2:30pm singles and there are two great courses on about 200 acres of land. These courses are home to the Sneaky Pete, which is a PDGA A tier event and are rated as some of the best courses in our area.
Just a heads up, didnt want you to be speeding down 40west to make it to HighPoint Doubles, when Burlington singles on closer and always have a good turnout.
Here is their website...
Cedarock disc golf (http://www.cedarockdiscgolf.com/)
I plan on playing in Yadkinville Doubles at 2pm, which is about 30-45 mins past high point. There is a PDGA event there at the end of April, so I imagine they will have a great turnout.
It is the only course in Yadkinville, NC (well public course), so check it out under the course directory.
Peace and have a good market.

Wed. Results
Pro-(after a CTP on hole 1)
1st - Me
2nd - Ben Williams.
If Ben had added his scores correctly he would have one with a 50.
I don't know who won AM, but the best score that I heard before the handicap was a 65.
We played from a mix of all 3 tees with Gold being played on 3, 6, 10, and 18...blues on 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13, 15, and 17....whites on the rest

Hello!
Usually do a 11am singles, doubles is sometimes sparse but usally takes place at 2:30pm. $5 for entry $1 ace pool, each event. We are getting a better turnout on Tuesday evenings, but there are usually 8-10 on Sunday mornings, depending on weather.
Hope you can make it. Last week they played Whites, Blues, Golds (Brewer won with a 52 I believe), so not sure where that puts us this weekend.
This weekend is first sunday singles in Yadkinville at 2pm (Cranberry Disco), so I imagine there will not be a great turnout for dubs.

The support of the Disc Golf community and Archdale Parks and Rec was unbelievable.
The turn outs for the ADGC ice bowls and other tournaments showed The Parks and Rec. the support that we had. So the course is in the ground because of all of us.

Sorry for the SPAM, but I wanted to get the word out about the Sontag Open to our NC neighbors. I'll keep it short. Sontag disc golf course is south of Rocky Mount, VA and just a short drive from Greensboro, High Point and other NC areas. It is 7000' from the white tees, with elevation and sick par fours. I highly recommend it and welcome y'all to the Sontag Open in thirteen days.
PS--It's common knowledge that VA golfers suck, so come on up and take some easy money!

Thank Tyson, He Really enjoyed Play with you as well. I was asked by MTL this weekend if Andrew ever gets mad. He understand that for him playing tournaments depends on his attitude and sportsmanship. wheather is a JSP weekly or the World championship. He knows to not let his sponsors or himself look bad because of his actions. It also part of the mental game I tried to teach him. get to the competition by show emotion over a bad shot.
Thanks again.

It is a legit par 62 and is a mix of woods and open. It's definitely worth the trip. Let me know if you have any questions.
Battle of the Blue Ridge Team Championship is less than four weeks away on November 29, 2008 at Timber Ridge in Bedford, VA. Five people per team. Check out the website below for more info. Team golf, match play, private course... it doesn't get any better than that!

What do we need to do as a club, to have bag tags for the Oak Hollow Disc Golf Club?
If we took the money from Sunday Doubles, only paid out 1st and second, and instead of giving 3rd a prize, we could hold that money for the bag tags.
OR
I was thinking, we could have a little tournament to raise money... Only 1st place would cash, the rest could go towards the bag tags.
Thoughts...? I feel that this would make just showing up on a random day at Johnson street more worthwhile if I could challenge someone for their bag tag.

So Phil and I are discussing starting a league out at barber to build interest before the new course is put in there.
What are everyone's thoughts about Thursday doubles at barber? I feel like scores could be pretty good there playing doubles.
We're talking with Eddie G. about getting a pro shop from Innova, and networked with David Mac at Gateway while in Kentucky this weekend, he seemed interested in letting us have a lot of plastic to advertise for our league.
Times would be similar to Tuesday Singles, and allowing us to have doubles would speed things up pretty good.
Thoughts, questions, anyone in?
tyson99duke
Apr 06 2009, 11:29 AM
I would like to see an event out there on Wednesdays vs. Thursday, as that would compete with the Triad DGC on Thursday nights. But they only do it every other Thursday, so it may not matter, or Barber could be the opposite Thursdays.
I would also like to switch Doubles and Singles week to week, as I love to play singles out there and doubles do help raise interest.
Overall, would love to see Barber Park get used in this manner.

Hopefully this will be what is needed to bring Barber Park back into the spotlight before renovations change the course this summer.
Come out and try to air it out on the front nine (wide open) and run for the ace on holes 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, and 18!!! Sure to be a fun time with a good group supported by the Oak Hollow Disc Golf Club!

Every Tuesday and Sunday we have leagues out at Johnson Street Park.
Tuesday Singles at 5:30pm is sign-up and 6:00pm Tee-off
Sunday Doubles at 2:00pm is sign-up and 2:30pm Tee-off
The same club that runs leagues, the oak hollow open and mookies cup pdga events has now expanded and runs a league in Greensboro at Barber Park.
This league is on Thursdays at 5:30 sign-up and 6:00 Tee-off.
These club events are open to everyone to promote disc golf. Its 5.00 Dollar entry, and there are different pools, amatuer and pro. Amatuer will win vouchers for new plastic from innova in dx, champ, star and KC pro, and Pro wins money that pays roughly 50% of the field.
We encourage you to come out, especially because right now is when many newer players are introduced to the sport!
See you tonight out at Johnson Street Park in Highpoint at 5:30 tonight!
