I think that Wimberley is ALWAYS out of Shiner beer...matter of fact, ALL beer! (They are in a dry county.) You've got to pick it up before you get there.

you sure? even if they are just go to Blanco and get some beer from the Real Ale Brewery-better than Shiner. IMO

well . .. . the Whartons "should" make it back ... . . .lots of planes/trains/and automobiles again on Friday night have to fall into place for us to actually make the first tee. Last year had a 4am arrival after storms etc., forced me into Dallas at midnight . . . . hopefully things work out this year.

Next year -- thursday night arrival for sure - c'est la vie.

Yeah yeah -- locals can get picky about the beers, when the Whartons are in Texas we'll drink the Shiners until they're gone . . . . then we'll start on the fancy schmancy stuff.

No Chuck -- I'm not practicing until it's above 20 -- I don't care I'd rather suck than freeze.

Hey Rey :D

Yea....it must have been hard to read Duke's typed-up entry form, but it's fixed now.

We will be checking ALL player ratings and PDGA member status this week, then contacting players with any questions.

Gimp -
As for exactly how many spots are left:
not counting P.O. Box stuff from the end of last week through today
&
not counting titledisc entries from today
we have 48 officially registered teams.
There are 108 spots (2 players per spot).

It's probably about an hour to Stubb's from Circle R.

Reclassification
A player may change classification from amateur to professional status at any time by contacting the PDGA Office. A player may
request reclassification from professional to amateur status by petitioning the PDGA Competition Director. Players who are
reclassified from professional to amateur are not eligible to compete in all PDGA Amateur Major Events (World and US
Championship events) during the year in which they are reclassified, but will be eligible to do so in the following year.
Reclassification within Amateur divisions (for example, from Intermediate to Advanced or vice versa), is based on updated player ratings.

But according to this he shouldnt be able to play advance do to this tournement being a major event /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D

ck34
Mar 14 2007, 12:28 PM
Except that the Amnesty program was not the same as that rule. The PDGA Board voted that anyone who took it had full Am status immediately in 2007. Any pro who forgot to renew before Jan 1 would have to go thru the process mentioned above to reclassify as an Am and could not play majors as an Am until 2008, assuming they didn't accept cash in a sanctioned event before then.

The electricity is out at Circle R (lightening struck nearby during the storm Tuesday), but I will get an updated players list up as soon as I can.
It's supposed to be fixed today, but I will have many entries to process before I can post the list.

Matt Bond is registered as a Pro with the PDGA; so, he is not eligible to play this event. Andy will need to find another partner.

The creek was flowing on Monday, but is down to puddles now. A little more rain and maybe we'll have the creek next weekend! There is water in all 3 ponds, but the one on RM17 is not even close to being full. The giant pond over on the 50 acres is quite impressive & even has a little waterfall flowing over into several small pools.
RM7's basket washed away in the flood Sunday night. We found the top & chains, but we haven't found the base & pole yet.

is the rumor about wimberley closing down true?

Joe,

I heard the same rumor from somebody who I trust, and who would be in a position to know. He said that this World Doubles would likely be the "last hurrah" at Circle R.

I was fortunate enough to play the final event at San Saba, and I'll be equally saddened to play the final event at this amazing place, too.

atxdiscgolfer

same here,I really hope the rumor is false,I would really hate to see those 2 fine courses go.I think there should at least be a sanctioned singles event ran there before they close shop.

OK, let's see if we can nip these rumors in the bud before they go too far.

The bottom line: we have not made a decision to close the courses.

No one wants these two beautiful courses to go away, including me. We are working on ways to keep them open.

As you may have heard, we are shutting down our Innova distribution business after this week. Innova has been a tremendous help during this process, and I'm looking forward to maintaining our great relationship for many years.

The problem, of course, is that the courses don't currently make enough money to stand on their own. And we can't really afford to continue losing money.

As I said, we are looking for solutions, so keep hope alive.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend for a great World Doubles.

Am I missing something, or is there a possibility that if an "overflow" two-some of one of the groups plays "C" while all the other two-somes of their same division are playing either "A" or "B" (both of which will be different than "C") the "overflow" two-some will either be at an advantage or disadvantage (depending on which course is tougher, etc.)? Must'nt ALL two-somes of any 1 division play the same courses / formats at the same time (for things to be equitable)?

So the tournament is going to be played on two courses correct???

johnrhouck
Mar 22 2007, 11:53 AM
1. The tournament is on two courses.

2. This is the same format we've used for 15 years. Yes, it is possible that people in the C Pool get different conditions from their counterparts in A or B. The same thing happens at the World Championships every year, and at other large events. And in any disc golf or ball golf event that uses staggered starts. You just make it as fair as you can...

3. The lunch menu is spaghetti-free:

For Saturday: Grilled chicken taco, brisket taco, refried beans and chili con queso w/chips

For Sunday: Fajitas, fish taco, refried beans and San Antonio squash

4. The player package includes a shirt, mini, and two discs that pretty much no one else has yet: a DX Ontario Roc, and an Orion Long Fade in Millennium plastic.

5. We will also have clearance prices on discs we need to get out of our warehouse, so be ready to shop.

It's almost time...

As one of the scorekeepers it was very apparent that card was changed after the scores were originally written down. We were obligated to tell the TD that it looked like a change was made. Pretty ballsy on your part Josh to bring it up on the board. So be careful what you wish for. There is no room in any sport for dishonesty but it is 2007 and it exists out there, shame to see it at such a World class event.

Good explanation Ed...

I've played w/ Blake and Blair many times...they both play by the rules and expect you to do the same. And they're not afraid to call a rules infraction or point out something that looks fishy. Did any infraction occur and if so, were scores adjusted?

I enjoyed my weekend of golf out at the ranch as much as I've enjoyed a tournament in a long time.

Much thanks to all involved in putting this together --- you should be very proud of your efforts today.

A special word of thanks to all of the local pros that came out to spot for us --- Jay and Des on Circ Hill #18, Olse on Circ Meadow #8, and others --- not only was your spotting appreciated, but often your words of encouragment and and support were also much appreciated. It says a lot about your love and respect for the game to come out and spectate and spot for us.

All of the teams that we played with this weekend exhibited the utmost in sportsmanship. We especially enjoyed playing with Curtis and John, two Vanderbilt students who drove in from Nashville to attend their first ever tournament in Texas.

I get the feeling that they left Texas with a good impression of Texas disc golf.

Whatever Chris, I have played Advanced long enough and am ready to compete in the Open division. You'll see!!! I said you are not a Bagger, just your partner. A 981 rating, long accurate drives and a great putt. He would easily cash in Open. I LOVE THIS SPORT and want the best for it. You guys played great and deserve this win but I think you guys are not very professional. World Doubles is a major event and to display some things that you all did after the round were just plain dumb ( I will not go into details on this board about it). I was upset with that because of my LOVE FOR THE GAME. I am not bitter or anything and don't think the F all you guys is necessary. Like I said, You guys played great and deserve the win. What's up Chris?Once again I wanted to congratulate you two on your victory. There is no doubt you guys played the best and deserved the win.The only advice I would like to offer is remember proper disc golf etiquette. If you really love this sport you would give it its proper respect. It's ok to get pumped after a great shot(hole one, third round),but there is no need for the loud, disruptive celebrations.Nor should you get so mad after a bad shot that you break other players concentration.Your game is good, don't let your behavior take away from that.If you look at real pros they never act like that.Even though you aren't a pro, shouldn't WE ALL try to emulate them.By the way nice admission to baggin :D

The older, most directionally challenged member of Team Wharton says congratulations to the winners!!!

As usual, our trip to CircleR was high end fun [save for a certain unspeakable score on 18 during worst shot ]. The people are the best, the tournament so well run and the courses are too good.

My vote for most fun shot to watch - Jack Tabor's Valkryie drive on 18 on the Hill - which flew forever - on the way to a nice three for their team on the hole.

Thanks so much for hosting this great event -

Texas is the best.

Chuck

PS - thanks for posting the pics - that one of me is one of my few putts that actually went in.

Does anybody else think that the TD gave us a little bit of a break on the "Worst Shot" holes on the Hill? Holes 7-12 were probably the easiest 6 holes to play "worst shot" on.

I think we took fairly routine 3s on four of the six holes.

How many people took a 2 on the first hole of Worst Shot (#7 Circ Hill)? I know I saw one card behind us do it (we took a 3).

If they wanted to be tougher, I think 1-6 would have shown a wider variance in scoring. But then again, I'm thinking that the TDs also wanted us off the hill before dark. ;)
