So I was watching some videos of pros and their forms for various shots. Mostly drives.

Then I thought to study someone putting, so I got some videos of Brian Schweberger hitting some pretty standard putts. They seem to falls really fast as opposed to travelling in a straight line. My question...

How do you do that? I've seen people at the local course who can do the same thing, but I can't figure out how they (Or Brian) get (gets) putts to just SINK like that. HOW IS IT DONE?

Throw with the nose down. I know how it's done and I still can't do it. When you force the nose down you force the disc to fly straight. Then all you have to do is get the distance right. I can't throw it more than 15' like this.

i always putt nose down and wish I could learn to stop. I push/lob putt so nose down is bad for me. I usually hit the basket low when I miss. I try to get the nose up, but I can't stop myself pushputting that way.

I did not really realize that my puTT drops that much, but I guess it does at the end. That is probably why I rarely have cuTT thrus or very long comebacks if missed. I think it is just the amount of pace I put on the disc.

This might not help your issue, but go to

http://www.discraft.com/resources.html

and watch the clinic on making long putts...mostly comparing normal putts to jump putts, but good info none the less.

Nose down putts are very nice when you want to avoid cut-throughs. The most common ridiculous bounce out is a result of hitting nose up (thats why it happens a lot on uphill putts)... If you hit center or slightly to the right (or left if you anhyzer) and nose down you're going to have almost no cut-throughs at all.

I really only use it in windy conditions, but I have had times where I spent a few hours drilling for Ultimate... and when I throw little fifteen footers to the next person in line I tend to high-release it with the nose down... I spent the next few days stuck in nose-down mode for my disc golf putting. Frustrating the first day when you're hitting the front of the basket every other toss...

I guess when I putt nose down, it goes in a straight line down... I've never been able to throw it flat and then have it sink, quickly.

Maybe I'm just not putting fast enough..? I do notice that going a little too hard is better than too soft, so maybe that's it..?

I don't know, but thanks for the feedback so far

I have always putted in the up down fashion...I was looking for lost strokes in my tournament play and realized i was losing at least 2-3 strokes per round on comeback putts alone. i devoloped a up down putt that never spit out, cut through, or went far past the basket...This putting technique also enabled me to putt aggresively at baskets from as far as 75'(aggresively meaning an honest chance). I dont think anyone who has played with me would consider my putt even remotely aggresive though!!!!! Some people Have even asked if a did it on purpose....No comebackers is the key....

Like it was said. Nose down. Also some initial upward motion in your putt is desired to get this loft putt up'n'down style work. I use it myself, one key element for me is the fan grip, with your middle finger pushing the disc upwards/forward from its place under the flight plate. If your putts go low, try finish higher with your hand. Good follow through is needed.
Good luck :)

It looks like Schweb putting with a slight heiser and the disc is arcing down when it reaches the basket. It doesn't look like it's the pacing as if the basket and ground was not there, the disc would continue on for awhile.

I was checking out Climo's website and he had some putting tips. One was to putt with a heiser so if you miss it hits the ground shortly after. Pretty much what Schweb is doing in the videos I looked at.

I've found that I can putt from a little farther while still be accurate using a heiser. However, I'm more comfortable putting straight on from within 30 feet. Outside 30 feet or so, I'm using the technique demonstrated on the Innova site that uses a nose up which makes the disc rise but I put a little anheiser which makes the disc fly more flat but drop at the end. It's kind of a touch shot but I can make quality runs from up to 125 feet and consistantly (90%) leave the disc within 10 feet of the basket. Not sure how much good it does me though. I only hit from over 75 feet less than 10% of the time.

One was to putt with a hyzer so if you miss it hits the ground shortly after.

That's great until you encounter wind. Then you are screwed.

Yeah, of course. You adjust to conditions. I wouldn't do a heiser if the grade behind the basket was sloping down and prone to rolling down a hill. I'd try to flop it flat then. But I do like the underlying philosophy that KC applies - simplify your technique so there are less variables. Less variable equals less to go wrong. Less to go wrong equals less mistakes in executing your technique.

Also, using a heiser so if you miss the natural flight path of the disc gets interupted by the ground near the basket. Makes sense to me under normal/typical conditions.

 I wish I could STOP doing it....It has been my downfall for EVER.
My "natural" release causes me to throw "nosedown".
This leads to a lot of putts that "look good" but hit the front nubs
If Im on, Im ON, If Im off, its REAL FRUSTRATING :(

I don't think Schweb putts nose down. He has good spin on the disc with no wobble to it.

If your "natural release" (wahtever that is) is with the nose down, you should take a look at your grip. Your grip is probably at fault.

I guess I meant less like the putt goes down... but more that it comes out of his hand and sinks, more curved than linear. Anyway, there's that
