So who made some big jumps in ratings in 2006?
I moved from 942 to 985 to jump 43 points. I think that is pretty good, but I'm sure there are some monster jumps out there. I think I win Oregon's most improved golfer.

Looking at your avatar, are you exclusively a side-armed thrower? Because 985 would probably be the highest rating for a guy who throws primarily side-armed that I know of.

I don't know if Mike Hofmann throws primarily sidearm, but he throws a crapton of sidearms, and he's pretty highly rated.

Yeah 600ft every time. :DHe never outdrove me by more than 50ft and I wasn't throwing 550'.

If we are talking quality numbers increases then everyone must assume that a 50pt jump from 750 to 800 would not have as much significance as someone who goes from 950 to 1000 since the amount of strokes a 750 player has to fix is a round is greater then the 950 player. The 750 player is in essence a 75% out of 100%. So he moves up 1/5 of the way to where he neeeded to be for a 20% increase. The 950 on the other hand met his goal 100%.

Anyway I vote Nikko Locastro. He went from 924 to 996. 72 points is good especially for a player rated that high.

50 points increase is still 50 points. What matters is whether the player was stable at a rating the year before the jump. I would say a better way to judge this for all skill levels would be to subtract the point improvement in 2005 from the point improvment in 2006 for players whose ratings at the end of 2004, 2005 and 2006 were all based on at least 8 rated rounds.

RANDY'S 926 RATING IS LOWER THAN WHAT YOU WOULD THINK HE IS RATED AFTER PLAYING WITH HIM.
HE PLAYS LIKE A 950+ RATED PLAYER.

Me honestly I wouldn't put him at 950+, I think he is a 940-945

Randy has talent, but consistantcy is an issue for this kid. If he makes it to am worlds 07, I would put money on this kid in the Junior 19 and under division. Joseph knows what I am talking about ;)

IMO I don't think that a huge rating jump indicates the most improved player, look at Anthon's year compared to previous, he had a good breakout year. he's the most improved in my mind, or Dallas Allbright STRAIGHT TO 1013 first year of tournaments.

I say ratings shmatings. I am a 940 golfer, but I think I can play with the best (when I stay focused :D) I have had a pretty lackluster am season, but cashed in all the open events I played  I guess It's easy to focus for $ :D

Thanks Ken - people are probably more ready to believe the 500' throw when someone else says it for you. Farthest forehand - 475'. But the only reason I improved so much this year is due to a shot that only has to go about 30' if you know what I mean...

Wise, you just worry about making that money at work so you can donate it at the next tournament.!. :o:eek:

ahem

actually i've always thought of myself as the highest rated player that can't throw a backhand :D

PS I put absolutely zero value in ratings and encourage others to do the same. It's a silly made up number that is derived from limited data and an ever-changing formula

Ratings are fun in my opinion. I don't take them too seriously, but it does give me one more thing to focus on and set goals for. Sometimes the only thing that stops one of my rounds from going into the tank is saying to myself - this is going to kill your rating - and that inspires me to make some putts. I agree that ratings are a bit screwy, but I disagree that there is zero value in them.

I know that you are interested in this year's most improved player, but I wanted to point out one of the biggest jumps in rating that I have found. Given the player and his reputation (3x junior world champ in only three attempts) this is not much of a surprise.
David Wiggins Jr. leapfrogged from a 716 rating in Sept of 2004 to 892 in Sept of 2005 (a jump of 176 points in one year). That is basically improving from bogey golf to par golf in one year (very loosely translated). I imagine there are other juniors doing the same thing all over the country, keep up the good work all of you !!!!

Marc Burnett #22546 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/player_ratings_history.php?PDGANum=22546&year=2006)

Ariona Lisle #25401 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/player_ratings_history.php?PDGANum=25401&year=2006)

Both of these juniors nearly DOUBLED their ratings in one year!
