It's a new year and several players will be "rolling the odometer" sometime in 2007 and can compete in an older division should they choose to do so. I went thru and pulled out the top rated players in the Masters and older divisions based on December ratings. The last column in each table shows a 'W' for the current World Champ and an 'N' shows who will enter this age division in 2007. Everyone in these tables had a rated round in 2006. There are several people who would have been in these tables that were active in 2004 and 2005 but not 2006 who perhaps might come out of "retirement" once they see this? Hope to see most of these people contending at Pro Worlds this year, especially some of our top rated international players on these lists.

Checking the stats, it looks like Monroe may have a few years at the top of SGM. Slasor at 988 is the only high rated new SGM in 2008, Voakes could switch in 2009 and Pierson in 2010. Looks like Shive will have a solid challenge defending at Worlds if these and a few other fellows show up.

How about a listing of the most underrated old people :D

Disclaimer- By no means am I suggesting that any of the players listed above are overrrated. I am merely poking fun at my own mediocrity. :)

Does this mean that LL is the top rated Adv master?

Yep, if Monroe is willing to make the trek up to Wisconsin this year and Michigan in 2008, he is statistically almost guaranteed two straight Pro Senior Grandmasters world championships.

Tom Monroe may be a 1000 rated Senior Grand Master but don't give him the World Championship just yet. He will need to play close to his best to beat Peter Shive. IMHO

Considering Tom Monroe is rated 1000 and Peter Shive is rated 960, statistically Monroe would beat Shive by 4 strokes per round on courses typically used in Pro Worlds tournaments. Statistically, over a 7 round tournament Shive would have to play his best to stay even close to Monroe.

All Pete would have to do is talk a little smack and then it is over. Tom and I were playing our normal Sunday morning round (casual competition), I was ahead of Tom by 1 stroke going into hole #7. I made the deadly comment "Ha! I am beating a World Champ!" Tom then proceeded to deuce holes 7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,17,18....I maybe got half of those.

Tom is one of the only people who can play down to his competition and never show it, and then turn it on like magik in the drop of a hat. Don't underestimate him, and I imagine that he would love to play a Worlds in his buddies back yard. And 2008? I think the lure of the Bell's Brewery would be incentive enough.

I am just glad I don't have to compete against him. Too bad he got food poisoning during the '06 Worlds. That was a bummer.

Now his nickname will have to be Senior Grandmaster Bagger.....LOL

We are pooling money to help send tom to worlds this year,
I play with him all the time ,and kicks my butt quite often.
Tom is a crafty old dude, just when you think you got him he steps it up a level. Peter is a great guy, but i don't think he can hang with tom.
