vinnie
Jan 04 2007, 01:18 PM
OK, Vinnie I did talk with David Vasquez, and he said that he was not on that project. Mr. Vasquez did give me David Grizzel phone number, I call David and he was not in, I did leave him a message about the tee boxes and I'm waiting for a return phone call. If David foregets to call me back I will call him again tomorrow. I will keep you posted Thanks for those phone numbers they where helpful.

I just finished talking with David Buzzell, and he said that the ball is rolling again, he was away from the city for the last 3 months and they have a new City Attorney. He said that the City and the Club have to come to an agreement about who's to maintane the tee boxes and etc. and that he would call Vinnie when this is ready ( soon). I told David that the Club would do what ever it takes before during and after the tee boxes are in. So Vinnie be expecting a call soon.

Its been a month....Send me buzzels # and I will call today

The city lawyers are 99% done with the tee box agreement. Some skate park has kept the city busy and disc golf on back burner.
And the dam is going through a face lift, this makes C basket a possible problem or it may not be a problem. Hard to say at this time.He was very sorry for the delay, but will work to complete agreement this week.

where did you find info on that one john?

johne
Feb 21 2007, 05:17 PM
I think it was in the CP/Leander Community Impact newspaper thing that comes in the mail every so often....park being built there, with a disc golf course included. TLast time i drove on 1431 and looked north as i passed Lime Creek Road, i could see some constuction was going on and i assume its that park i read about. I think they are gonna make the west end of New Hope hit 1431 and this park is gonna be on that section.

johne
Feb 21 2007, 05:47 PM
The park is "Northwest Community Park" and here's an article i found about it:

http://www.hillcountrynews.com/articles/2006/08/02/news/news01.txt

that confirms my recollection about the park itself and its location on New Hope....but now i can't find the info on the disc golf course. I swear i read about it in a similar article with that same drawing of the park.......maybe it was confusion on the article writer's part (confused with the course rumored to be at brushy creek park)......and i'm just spreading it, lol.

Feb 21 2007, 07:00 PM
Are you talking about this course?

From Texas Parks and Wildlife:

Williamson: Williamson County Brushy Creek Regional Park II (regional park) received $517,213 to acquire 37.1 acres by donation to expand and further develop Brushy Creek Regional Trail located east of the City of Cedar Park in the southern area of the county. Proposed development includes a 2.75-mile trail with creek crossing and aquatic viewing area, fishing areas, wetlands improvements, aquatic garden, water fowl feeding area, xeriscape garden, exercise station, nine-hole disc golf course, 10 benches, kiosk, interpretive signs, roadway, parking, and project acknowledgement signs.

From Williamson County: (http://wcportals.wilco.org)

Construction of Phase 2 of the Brushy Creek Regional Trail will begin this month. Phase 2 will extend the trail east from the Creekside Trail Head at Great Oaks 4,000 feet through Fern Bluff MUD property. Muniz Concrete and Contracting is the contractor on the project. The trail is projected to be open this spring and will cost approximately $467,000. It will be constructed of granite gravel and concrete and will have some interpretive signs.

Trails for hiking, biking and walking are one of our top priorities, as well as the top priority for the cities and Municipal Utility Districts in and around us, said Jim Rodgers, director of Williamson County Parks and Recreation.

When all phases are complete, the Brushy Creek Regional Trail is a planned 8-mile project from Cedar Park to IH-35 in Round Rock. The trail was designated as a National Recreational Trail by the National Parks Service in June 2005. Phase 1 of the trail is approximately 3-miles long and runs from the new City of Cedar Park Brushy Creek Lake Park at Parmer Lane to the Creekside Trail Head at the intersection of Brushy Creek Road and Great Oaks Drive. The trail is open from sunrise to sunset and is free to use.

johne
Feb 21 2007, 07:08 PM
that's the one that Efrain mentioned earlier today....park expansion to the existing park that contains the trail that is along Brushy Creek Rd. between Parmer and Great Oaks.

The one *I* mentioned is another park for which I was pretty sure i read about a golf course being built at it....but now i'm no so sure.

oh well.

I meet with the parks next Wednesday @2;30. We will be revisiting the contract (review tee box size, our liability, and locations) they also said they will want to know when we can start work. David (parks) has decided that it would be easier for us to apologize than get permission. So ITS ON. We need to act fastso who wants to coordinate our resource, set time lines, and delegate responsibilities.

This evening I will be walking the course with Timmy(concrete connection). We will determine how many man hours are needed to set the forms and rebar. We have 10yds. donated, they want us to do all 10 yds which is 19 boxes the same day. We don't have the resources to do that, so I will be pushing for 6 at a time. Then we will only have to do 6 forms, move them to the next six, and so on. The bottom line is we may not be able to use all that is donated if they want us to take it the same day.
Once this starts it's on, and we need everybody that committed to helping us out to be on tap. Me and V can't head this up, we will be there to work but can't be the "el heffe's" on this. Laying the wire and rebar will be the biggest part of the work and probably the most expensive part. They start scraping 6 boxes at a time Friday the 30th, and they expect us to keep pace with them. So here's our chance to get this done before the heat and give OSP what it's always needed, concrete boxes.

thanks, edman

vinnie
Mar 22 2007, 12:15 PM
Its time for someone to truely step up..... enough talk!
If we can get 20+ people showing up at 3:00 on a weekend day to play golf, I am confident we can get plenty of man power. What we need is somone to take the horn and lead.
We got the blessing and we have obtained resourse. So we need someone to make sure wire is there, wood is there, man power is there, and the job is done on time.

If any one can get Rusty to look at the board he can probably find some around his job site's. You are going to see Rusty this weekend C-Ware, ask him and if he does I can run down south next week and p/u for free. If not we only sell full rolls (150ft) of the wire mesh (high dollar) and not even sure we stock rebar anymore. You can also check with Lowe's Home Depot as they sell it by the foot on the mesh cause we only need 60feet to do 6-boxes. Goblin will have to do the math on the rebar to tell us how many pc (comes 20ft) he needs.

edman
Mar 22 2007, 07:19 PM
Goblin is walking the course tonight with us, maybe he has an ace in the hole somewhere, well I'm sure something's in a hole, anyway sorry to drift. We'll need 1 20ft. piece of rebar per t-box and probably 9ft. of screen per box. Glad to see some action on this and we'll keep all of you lurkers informed. V mentioned something about a Home Depot gift card someone has. Any idea who it was?

nix
Mar 22 2007, 07:50 PM
I will try to be there, but I can't commit- I have no idea what my schedule will be like that day until that day. I am taking off early the next day (March 30th) for the fundraising party for RW.

edman
Mar 23 2007, 11:48 AM
We were able to get out there yesterday and look at the upcoming work. For starters we won't need the rebar, TImmy will be donating all we need from his jobsite. The screen on the other hand we have to get our hands on. We're going to need 200 linear feet of 4 ft. wide screen.
The ball is in Goblins court and he will be leading all work crews, he can't post but can read the board, so please let him know on the board when you are available, he will be contacting you.
The decision has been made to pour all 19 boxes the same day. That date will most likely be the 28th of April. So all forms will have to be laid down in 4 weeks. We will have the concrete truck the entire day. Timmy will be working on getting a bobcat donated for the holes the truck can't drive to.
So the first action item is to go to the park next wed-thurs and mark the first 6 boxes so the city knows where to scrape. It is very likely that nobody will be needed Friday the 30th, but starting the next week is where the members will play there part at setting forms. We will put down 6 forms a week. Goblin will be building forms at his house the whole time. So let him know when you are available to go there and help him. I will keep putting info on the board for all volunteers by Goblins direction.

vinnie
Mar 23 2007, 12:29 PM
this is great news, I will get with the city
They need to know how we are going to get it do.
We need a list of folks who can be there on the 28th. It will take our biggest showing for a work day to pull this off.
It would be niice if we could get someone to head up some food and adult refreshment for the the work day.....that seems to bring everyone out.

edman
Mar 27 2007, 03:15 PM
O.K. talked with Goblin last night and here is where we are.

The first 6 forms are made, Keith call Goblin he needs the rest of the wood for the rest of the 13 boxes. As mentioned before all the rebar is covered Timmy has donated it. He has also drummed up enough screen for 15 boxes, we need enough for 4 more he will be giving those totals in the next couple of days.
We will need at least 20 five gallon buckets on pour day, 1 bucket per box to keep wet until they are smoothed. We will need trowels and hoes and any other tools that will be helpful for pour day.
Here is the biggest obstacle for the whole thing. WE NEED 40 PEOPLE THE DAY OF THE POUR. 2 people on each box and couple to run with Goblin to each one to do the finish work. THIS DATE RIGHT NOW IS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 28TH. We will start a list tomorrow at the mini of who can committ to doing this. So thanks in advance to everyone that will be there, and I mean EVERYONE.
Things are moving quickly, Goblin isn't messing around with this project, He wants to be done before the heat comes, so let's all do our part and help. The Double R is counting on all it's members to pitch in. We may need some folks this Saturday to start laying forms, I will post later today to firm that up.

13-more boxes would be 39 more 2x6x10's. Will get with my boss thursday when he returns and get him to donate 39-more for our boxes.
Can't lift anything heavy due to hernia's but will help with the pouring and deliver the lumber to Goblin's house when I get it approved. Will check with Ronnie to see if we can use his concrete tools for finishing boxes. All this is to be done 4/28 correct??

I am calling the city to dig 10 boxes at a time starting April 6....Form work (by the club the 7th)
April 13 the city will dig the next 10 boxes....April 14 anothe club form work day.

If we're not able to pick these items up today, it is most likely that they will walk off the job site on there own. We're talking about $1500 (that we don't have) worth of steel. This is not a 2 man load & unload with Ed's $3000 back. This will not happen without help. Anyone able to pitch in on this today? It also looks like the pour date will have to move as well. Saturdays just don't happen with the company that's donating the truck & concrete. Wednesdays may be changing to 5 hour work days if this is going to come together.

Last night we(me, Goblin, Hellman)were able to get enough screen to do all 19 boxes. Goblin will be bringing the rebar little by little, we just had to get the creen before someone else took it.

Keith, still waiting to hear from you on the rest of the lumber, I know you are waiting to here from your boss so just let Gob know how it is going. We shouldn't need nearly as much since we are doing 2 pour days, check with Goblin to make sure we can re-use the first 10.

The first workday at the park will be April 7, our goal that day will be to set half of the forms, the boxes will be scraped by then. If we can get a good showing we can start early and be done in time to make Ricky's party. If we don't get a good showing of folks than I'll just go out to John's and burn the palce down, just kidding. :D
Bring shovels, rakes and any garden tools that you think will be helpful.
From there we pour those boxes on Wednesday the 11th, so sorry to say no golf that night, your score will be how hard you worked and we'll payout the top third as usual. :p We have the truck scheduled to be there at 3, so please start making plans to be there. We figured it would take 20 mins a box, that's if we can pull some strings with the city to get a bobcat to run crete to boxes the truck can't drive to. So that puts us at 3 hours and 30 minutes, we'll have to work fast to keep up with the truck. If we don't get the bobcat we'll have to wheelbarrow some of it. I'll keep you all in the loop on how that is developing. Pray for bobcats, everybody pray.
From there we should be able to re-use those forms and set them on the 14th, to be ready to pour on the 21st.
So that's the plan, rain would be about the only thing that would keep us from getting the crete on those scheduled days, but I'm not worried about that because I can only remember 2 times we didn't play on Wednesday's because of rain. The Double R and the city is counting on huge support from it's members on these workdays, I realize everybody can't make it all 4 workdays, so let's just make sure we have enouogh to do what we need to do on any given day.

My boss has agreeded to donate the other 13-boxes which is 39-more 2x6x10's. From what I am hearing, we don't need that many since we are going to be re-using some.? My question is, how many more 2x6's or tee pads do yall think we really need as I can p/u tomorrow and drop at Goblin's casa. If we don't need all of the remaining 13, what do we need.?? Someone let me know before 11:00 am tomorrow and I will deliver in the pm to Goblin :D:D:D

With Easter Sunday coming, the city doesn't want 10 holes through out the park for children to hurt themselves in. We will still have the Saturday workday, but the city will not have scraped the boxes until Monday the 9th.
10-15 workers to meet at the Rock (hole 14)this Saturday @ 9. We'll split up to mark the course, go to job site, & get rebar (1 more truck needed) & get supplies.

Main work days (updated 4/2 @ 9:30 pm)

Monday 4/9 set forms @ 4:00
Tuesday 4/10 set forms @ 4:00
Wednesday 4/11 pour holes 17-8 @ 3:00
Saturday 4/14 set forms on 9-16 @ 9:00
Wednesday 4/18 pour holes [email protected] 3:00

This is alot happening very quickly, but I know we can pull this off as a club. Double R Rules! Saturday we should be off to the party about noon if everyone shows up & pitches in. Yoshi, Edman & I will bring the 2 mach 3's when we come to the party on Saturday. Be well Ricky Wright.

We will be taking the rebar back to the park and putting it in the fenced area off of 4's tee box. We'll send 2 trucks with GOblin downtown to cut and bring rebar back to park and the folks at the park can help unload. We will send trucks to Goblins house to bring all forms to fenced area as well.

edman

That's good news Ware2, Chris C. is suppossed to bring a trailer but a second one to go downtown is a good idea, easier to load, and the rebar won't f-up anyone's truck. Lala is trying to pull something together for a snack, and I will go get plenty of drinks(NA). C-dub said he would bring all the brown beer we could drink. The cold doesn't keep us from playing golf, so put on long johns and let's get'er done.

You guys may want one of those 10x10 pop up canopies also. Keeps the rain off if it while you do the finish work and gives it a little time to start setting up. Then move to the next one. Or get two tents and rotate them.

I'm going to rent another quickie saw today, for cutting rebar. We need to send 6 guys downtown, not 4 like planned. This will take the most time out of the 3 tasks we have this weekend. So Ware2, Goblin, C-dub and 3 more. Sound good? You guys take truck/trailer and 1 other vehicle.
Chris C. and Keith can go to Gobs and get forms and screens on his trailer. We have the spot where everything will be stored. Harrell I was hoping we could use your truck on the course to mark the boxes with Vinnie and a couple other guys. I can take some people to get supplies.

It is a broom that is made for concrete. It's real soft, and like I said, the surface, after brushed will not look like it has much grip. But if you talk to anyone that does concrete for a living. They will tell you that a rough brush is super grippy. You can use a regular push broom. If you do, don't push down very hard on the brush and rinse the broom after each stroke accross the box.. This is very important.....Start brushing by setting the broom down very softly on the opposite side of the box that you are standing.(you want to brush toward you, pull the broom to you then rinse and move over the width of the broom and repeat until you get to the end of the box) You will brush from side to side, not front to back. Only do this process once then let box dry. Don't forget to RINSE broom after each brush.. Otherwise, the concrete will build up on the broom and cause rounded grooves instead of sharp grooves like you need for maximum grip!! Good luck and if you have any questions, pm me and I'll do my best to help you out. We used 3000 psi concrete. It works great and will last forever.

found this in the teepad design thread..

J.D. has a broom that is made just for this. Also bring push brooms if you have any as these will work as well to make rough surface on OUR tee pads. 5-gallon buckets full of water will also be needed for this purpose. See everyone at #17 tomorrow to pour concrete.

It will help a lot if you wet the forms before the concrete goes in. Just makes it easier to remove the forms. ;)

When you guys broom it, do not edge the pads, we did some like that in Tulsa. While they looked great, the last 3 inches of the box on the end and side turned out very slick.

Apr 11 2007, 09:29 AM

twoputt not sure what you mean by "edge" the pads?

We had them brushed from edge to edge, then the crew behind us put a nice finished edge on the pads. Yes, it looks good but produced poor results. It is amazing how that little 2-3 inch edge can be slick as ice.

We learned from that and all of the other pads were brushed, then left alone. They turned out great.

I really wish I was there to offer some help. The work is hard but we had a blast getting all of ours in the ground.
By the time you pour 70+ pads, you learn a couple of tricks. All the pads poured last year have no cracks or breakage and those huge tractor mowers run over them all the time. ;)

We ran one 2 man crew mucking in the concrete (who ever does this needs to where clothes you no longer want and some type of eye protection, that crap burns when it splatters in the eye) and two, 2 man crews skreeting, then two, 2 man crews macking and floating and one guy coming behind them to brush. Total of 12 workers. Kind of like an assembly line. We were able to get 18 poured and finished in about 6.5 hours. ;)

Good luck guys, I wish I was there. Its a great feeling to see a new pad in the ground. :DAnd know you were part of it.

Concrete is going to pour AT 3:00. Not when everyone shows up.........Ed and I have our phones on everyday if anyone needs to get a hold of us. We may have said we can't lead this thing.........sure fells like leading to me.
FYI .......ED and I are out of town Saturday......and what work done this last Monday and Tuesday will have to all be done Saturday for the remaining 9 boxes........we may have the luxuary of fine tuning before the pour....cause it seems that dirt shrinkes over night....if the center is deeper than 4' or the sides are deeper than the form board.....more concrete will be needed and only so much we get free.....dirt is cheaper than concrete

Did not find our tresspassers this am. Was able to remove to a degree 2 of the 3 imprints. Looks good except for sanchez 04/12/07 in front right corner, but could do a spot patch and maybe get it gone next week.
Spoke to BOBCAT boys about 13's tee spot, said they could not dig-out NEW spot due to the closeness of the tree's and were afraid they would damage tree's both below and above the ground so they dug-out were it has allways been. They had already dug-it out by the time I got over there and thats why they did not dig-it-out on the spot we had marked. Will try to make a run through this pm and re-check everything.
Looking more and more like I will NOT be avalible this weekend, hopefully I will be but right now its looking like NO WAY!! Pads look great and the clean up around them should be gravy easy.
See all yall soon, "the tee box cop".

Lets see how it goes tonight and tomorrow before I flat say NO. Things could change between now and saturday morning.
It all depends on ME and how much energy I can create in the next two days. What I have to do is going to harder than what we have been doing at the course so beleive me I would rather be at the course than at home!! But I have put it off for way way to long and it must get done before 4/19. Not alot of energy right now but must dig deep and find some as I do not want to let the club down.

meet at #13 than break into teams of 3-4 people. 1 team to lay forms, rebar and screen. while other teams start to level and install. Just like last Monday than on Tuesday we will need few folks to go by and ensure they are still set properly.

WEDS will be pour day and we will need EVERYONE again at 3:00 to meet @ # 9's tee.

Who's gonna be there today? JD and Matt H.? If we don't get rained out. The goal was to start taking the forms off today correct? I will not be going out of town this weekend, Mom's not feeling well enough to have company. So I will be there on Sat., but I have to go to work in the AM, should be able to make it by 10 though. MUCHO WORK tomorrow, let's no save anything for Mon/Tues. Club will buy lunch tomorrow since we didn't have time on Wed. after we played.

Played the new pads last night and they are sweet. Came in early to work so I'll be there before 10. Bring a circular saw someone to cut stakes with at the pavillion, I'll bring some 2x4's. Goblin said he would grab Eddies but won't be able to talk to him till I get at the park. We have some serious digging to do on some holes, so eat your weeties. At least the ground will be soft. Big rains at the rock last night. Another rock bar would be good to have as well.

oh yeah i have a large wheelbarrow i'll bring. Its not metal....its one of those hard plastic dealies. Gotta remember to air up its tire or it'll be useless.

i said a while back i'd get buckets from home depot........i'll do that......how many you think we'll need?

seewhere
Apr 17 2007, 09:58 AM
I would think at least 5-8 buckets should cover us.. 1 bucket of water for every 2 holes. 9 holes 4-5 with water and maybe 3-4 to haul concrete if needed....

We can handle c-hole back box with wheel barrows if we put 2-guys on them. If we try to fill boxes with 5-gallon buckets I don't think yall have any idea how long that is going to take, and will the concrete truck driver want to stay that late. We can do it with wheel barrows, we must, we will!!

seewhere
Apr 17 2007, 05:54 PM
maybe 3-4 to haul concrete if needed

I guess you did not see the part that says "if needed" ;)

may
Apr 17 2007, 06:13 PM
5-gallon bucket of concrete ways about 50lbs. This old man can't and will not haul buckets of mud to boxes. And yes I did not see "if needed", cause if we do we don't have enough people to keep up with the truck. Bring wheel barrows, please!!

Apr 17 2007, 06:38 PM
I will be out early tomorrow (around noon or so) and will start back filling the finished boxes if its not to muddy. And if not to muddy will load extra fill to help out on #12 since Rusty said was all rocks!! Also Rusty said #12 tee box moved?? Where/why??
