Definitely Pine Valley !!!!!!!

I was up there this past February , when there was 18 inches + on the ground. I took pictures while I was there. You were not able to drive up to the course as it was almost 2 feet deep in some areas on the road. You would have to park your car off the main road and walk in if Marshall Stevens ( The Park Guy ) would allow you too. Some of those larger rocks had Ice formed on them and was hard to climb if you didn't have spiked shoes or snow shoes. Trust me , I tried !!!!! The small cactus and some brush was covered , so I had to be careful !!!!!

The course looked like a Winter Wonder land , for San Diego County !!!!!!! Absolutely Beautiful though !!!!!! Glad I brought my camera !!!!!!!

Choice of discs were Dark colored , like Black , Purple , Orange , Pink and Dark Blue. I had some issues finding my White putter at times !!!!

If weather permits , ICE BOWL IN SAN DIEGO at Pine Valley !!!!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Playing Ice Bowls in the actual snow should be reserved for people who live in Minnesota and North Dakota. It would be silly for San Diegans to go out of their way to play in the snow.

It would be much better to have an Ice Bowl at Emerald or Morley and then post the picture of us in tank tops and shorts. We can still raise money for charity without going to the snow!

I think thats why they call it the ICE BOWL and not the SUN BOWL. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Plus the folks back East would get a kick out of Sunny San Diego players , actually playing in snow for once !!!! :D
Plus.....
It's not like we have snow for 5 months + a year !!!!!

No need to fall down in the snow and risk injury when we pay so dang much for our SoCal mortgages to not have to fall down in the snow and get hurt!

Boooooo ? Halloween already ?

You say , " No need to fall down in the snow and risk injury when we pay so dang much for our SoCal mortgages to not have to fall down in the snow and get hurt!"

We are not Snowboarding Dude.

Besides , I have seen worse injuries on a regular Disc Golf course ...............for example , Broken leg from a wet tee pad , Slipping on Concrete , which by the way is alot harder than Snow , 911 call to paramedics for Broken wrists , Climbing the Razor wire , falling out of trees , foot being run over by a Golf cart , falling off the cliff at Mountain High, waiting in line at the Pro shop for a play band and get hit in the head , directly , without someone yelling FOUR.......etc.. I think you know where I'm going with this.

I think it would be FUN for once to experience Disc Golf Snow play , without having to drive to Aspen , CO. , British Columbia, Idaho, New York , Connecticut , Montana or Flying to Germany , Switzerland , the Alps , the Rockies or any place back east where there is not the same choice of options we have here in San Diego !!!!!!!

We are spoiled here with the weather........................and have more choices to play in good weather than most of the Country !!!!!

How many times have you played Disc Golf with Real baskets in the Snow ?

Probably not to often.

You just have to be aware of your surroundings , pace yourself and enjoy Mother Nature at her finest !!!!!!

:D Just my 2 cents...........

There was an Ice Bowl in SoCal in the snow once, at Wrightwood. Not Idaho, not Minnesota, and not the North Pole!

It's been done.

An Ice Bowl in the sunshine is a much better idea!!!

I'm not saying we make all the holes 500 + , but something like the Ace Race , Discraft provides for the general public , where everyone can have FUN and enjoy the experience.................................

Or are you looking for a sanctioned event ?

Yes, I think you are right. :)

I'm just trying to point out that disc golf in the snow is not as fun as it seems like it would be. But y'all are intent on finding that out for yourselves, so have at it.

Having post-holed Zephyr Cove in 2 feet of snow. I'm going to have to agree with Rhett. The reason people in other parts of the country play in the snow is they have no choice.

We could do an afternoon event @ like 2:20 and hopefully get 75% of the morley monthly people. Who could resist playing TWO tournaments in one day.

Just another random thought from a random golfer.

Would your round improve with just 1 driver and 2 putters???

Just a reminder that San Diego's first Ice Bowl, to benefit The Angel's Depot (http://www.theangelsdepot.org/), will be held at Sun Valley on Saturday. Players Meeting is at 1pm, but we will accomodate late-comers who play the Morley monthly earlier in the day (see link to flyer above).

I received a delivery from Ice Bowl Central yesterday and there are some sweet Star and Champion discs that will be given out as prizes, as well as a selection of Ice Bowl Wear (t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats).

See you Saturday!!!!

The 1st Annual Ice Bowl in San Diego was a great success!!! Big thanks to MJ Gonzalez and the staff at Sun Valley who were our hosts, Dave Parnell for coordinating with Sun Valley and setting up the new tee positions and Monica Watkins for being extremely organized keeping me on an even keel.

Also, thanks to all of the players for their patience and great attitudes!!! I was a little rusty, not having TD'd a tournament in 20 years, but I had a blast.

I'll post again tomorrow with final fundraising and canned food totals that will benefit The Angel's Depot, a few attaboys to those that played well and a few pics.

We had 27 players for the 1st Annual Ice Bowl in San Diego. Four players played the double-header of Morley Monthly in the morning and Ice Bowl in the afternoon. At 66 degrees and clear blue skies, we may have had the best Ice Bowl weather in the country. Everyone had a great time - MJ and the staff at Sun Valley rolled out the red carpet for disc golf. For their $15 entry fee players received an Ice Bowl Disc, snacks, CTP's, their greens fees, a prize drawing with 17 prizes and the knowledge that they helped those less fortunate than themselves.

The event was a successful charity fundraiser, collecting $200 and 78 lbs of canned food for The Angel's Depot (http://www.theangelsdepot.org/), a San Diego County food bank that serves our area's senior citizens. The frenzied purchase of $1 mulligans helped us collect so much!

Results on the Course (scores for 27 holes, with mulligans...):

Open (10):
1. Dave Vincent - 71
2. (tie) Donny Olow & David Parnell - 73
4. Ed Speakman - 74
5. John Kirkland - 77

Advanced (4):

1. Richard Hockaday - 72
2. David Lewis - 76

Intermediate (13):

1. Mitchell Zunich - 78
2. Dave Roper - 81
3. (tie) Chris Hanau & A.J. Risley - 83
5. Boyd Turner - 84
6. (tie) Clark Jackson & Jay Gray - 85

CTP's:
Open - John Kirkland
Advanced - Richard Hockaday
Intermediate - Brandon Coates

Many thanks go out to those who helped with the event:

- MJ Gonzalez of Sun Valley, for opening up the course to disc golf
- David Parnell, for tweaking the course layout and liason with Sun Valley
- Monica Watkins, for organizational skills and goodwill
- Richard Hockaday, for raffle donations and buying 27 mulligans!!!
- All of the great San Diego disc golfers!!!

Start saving your mulligan money for next year's Ice Bowl in San Diego!!!!!
