Lately I have noticed my snap becoming more audible, especially on longer drives. I don't think I have changed anything lately that would cause this so I am just wondering where this comes from, grip, form, release? I have noticed a few others have the same thing but not as loud as mine.

Anybody else have audible snap in their drives or know someone that does?

It's not like it is a bad thing, just confused about why it happens for me and not others.

Happened to me too - noticed it first after having earwax removed. :D

I can hear the snap when I throw a midrange disc. Others have commented on it as well, so it must be fairly loud, but I don't usually hear it with drivers. I don't know if I am actually 'snapping' the mids more, or if I can just hear it because of the wider rim.

My snap is really loud, it is happening on most of my drives recently. People say it is prolly my right hand (I'm a lefty). :D

I have a fairly loud snap when I throw RHBH, usually with drivers and mid-range, I haven't really noticed it too much with putters. When I am throwing well its on almost every shot. I think it might come from my fingers hitting the palm of my hand when the disc is released/ripped out of my hand. Do you throw with a fan grip? I think that you are more likely to get snap from using a fan grip as opposed to a power grip (I use a fan grip, like Kenny).

Schweb has a loud snap too and I think he uses a fan grip, not 100% sure on that though.

this is more based upon the angle your fingers intersecting with the rim of the disc and not really indicative of anything.

also, if you are "on top of the disc" with your body, you will generally get louder pops.

there are players that throw far with and without the popping sound.

Why Yes I do have a very audible snap upon release, and I do use the Fan Grip

thats strange that you say that because I throw RHBH and I am left handed and get lots of snap as well.

maybe you are throwing so hard you are hearing the bones and tendons of your forearms or wrist just breaking /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

that sounds scary - hope not.

In my opinion, audible snap is a sounds from a very clean release. When I don't release clean my snap is nowhere near as loud.

Blake, would it be accurate to say that audible sound is irrelevant and "snap" has to do with how well the disc is sprung or catapulted? (thereby complementing the arm speed/power of the thrust)

Weird...for drives & upshots I used to use a 3 finger 'pinch' grip...literally ('97-'98ish). I held only the bead/lower rim with my index through ring fingertips and had my thumb on top. It snapped loudly for such a weak grip.

A few questions for the 'fairly consistent' snappers out there are -

Do you get a louder snap throwing hyzers, annys, flat shots, etc...?

When you throw a roller, and if you're trying to impart more spin on it, do you get the snap then?

i would say that there really isn't a uniform rule amongst all players for audible pop, but there can be rules for specific subsets of players.

for players that consistently throw > 400' and usually have a loud audible pop, they usually have a louder pop on better throws.

for players that consistently throw 350' or less and usually have an audible snap, it means relatively little. a counter-example of this is when you see the guy that averages 350' accidentally rip off a 425' grip lock 45 degrees to the right. the grip lock throw had more snap, but probably little if any audible pop.

then there's the guys that regularly throw well over 400' but have little if any audible pop. to say that they should have a popping sound when they uncork a 475' line drive doesn't seem logical.

lastly there's the people that don't throw very far and get little if any audible pop. it is unlikely that if they were to simply establish a popping sound that they would add that missing 100' of distance.

the pinch grip example from circle 2 supports the idea that the popping sound has more to do with friction of the finger tip on the bottom of the rim than any indication of rip force.

the loudest pop i ever had was during a throw that split the callous on my index finger and left plastic shavings on my finger tips... after shooting horrible pain through my hand and causing it to go numb for 30 seconds or so. needless to say this was a slip and not a good rip.

louder snap generally occurs during hyzers and flat shots, but this is mainly due to how the disc passes the body and the hand/wrist/arm's orientation to the disc. on rollers, putting more spin on the disc generally has less of a popping sound.

Just curious, does anybody else with a loud snap leave melted plastic on thier index finger upon release?
