Hello disc golfers. We hope your summer is going great and you've been able to play a lot of disc golf. This e-mail is going out to over 300 disc golfers in the Midwest. We hope you forward this e-mail to any of your disc golf friends.
Not heading to Amateur Worlds this year? IOS #4 @ Rockford, IL is going to be monstrous and a must play Midwest event. Mark July 29th (Adv/Pro) or 30th (Int/Rec/Jr) on your calendar for this Am/Pro B-Tier event. Last year 167 players played this inaugural event ranking it tied for 13th of most attened PDGA events in 2005. IOS attendance has skyrocketed this year up 55%. If the trend continues over 250 players will be at Rockford. On average there have been 23 pros, 54 advanced, 44 intermediate, and 46 recreational players at each of the first three events. There have also been approximately 15 women at each event playing various divisions. Two pools of 72 players on both courses will limit play to 4-somes each day. 42 holes will be played and there will be a Final 4 Safari for the top 4 Open players. IOS #4 is an Am Nationals qualifying event (www.amnationals.com). The ace pool will be starting at over $500.00 on the 29th. Marshall Street (http://www.marshallstreetdiscgolf.com) has sponsored 18 items as CTP's for the weekend. Thank you Marshall Street! Combining the Marshall Street CTP's with our usual CTP's there will be approximately 50 CTP's split between the 2 days. We strongly encourage you to preregister for this event. Register here-> http://store.discontinuum.org/product_info.php?products_id=35 . The PDGA Tour page is updated daily with current registered players. Check www.brasscash.com (http://www.brasscash.com) for more details.
IOS #3 @ Crystal Lake, IL filled up with 209 players. That was the third straight sellout of over 200 players this year. Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa were all represented. Joe Kowalski from Alto, MI was the big winner of the weekend. He took first in Advanced winning approximately $130.00 in brass cash (funny money). He also won the amateur side bet of approximately $75.00 brass cash. His day started off even bigger when he aced hole #9. This was the first ace of the year and he won the $750.00 ace pool that rolled over from IOS #1 & #2. Thank you to all of you who participated especially those that stuck out the lightening delay on Sunday.
Bruce Brakel is keeping the Peoria Open going this year. Two of Illinoiss best courses (Morton & Pekin) will be played. This tournament will be run like an IOS tournament with brass cash payouts, pick your own prizes and everything you like about the IOS tournaments you've played. A date will be announced soon for the 2006 DISContinuum Disc Golf Club Invitational. This event will be a PDGA sanctioned event that is free for all club members that are PDGA members. It will be $5.00 for all non PDGA members. An awesome trophy was donated and will be awarded to the winner of this event. We are going to try to run a putting and driving competition like last year if we can find volunteers. More information will be released when all details are ironed out. We have 96 current 2006 club members. Thank you for the support!
The Round Lake Area Park District has installed the practice basket at Fairfield Park. We are hoping hole #14A will be installed by the end of August. Thank you to those of you who played Fairfield Dubs that raised $180.00 for the basket. DISContinuum picked up the difference in cost. Waukegan Park District has started moving dirt to start the expansion of Beiver from 12 holes to 18. Be patient since this project will probably take a year. We are still waiting for the Lake County Forest Preserve to add disc golf to the agenda. Brett is supposed to receive a yes or no on July 3rd. Check the discussion board for more information.
As usual we'll finish with the Rule of the Month.
803.09 Out-of-Bounds
A. A disc shall be considered out-of-bounds only when it comes to rest and it is clearly and completely surrounded by the out-of-bounds area. A disc thrown in water shall be deemed to be at rest once it is floating or is moving only by the action of the water or the wind on the water. See section 803.03 F. The out-of-bounds line itself is considered out-of-bounds. In order to consider the disc as out-of-bounds, there must be reasonable evidence that the disc came to rest within the out-of-bounds area. In the absence of such evidence, the disc will be considered lost and the player will proceed according to rule 803.11B.
Have a great 4th of July!
