What's the word on this place? Anyone have directions to this course or any information?

Hey doc!

The best source of information about this newest course in Northwest Houston in on the HFDS message board. Directions, MapQuest link for the exit off from US-290, directions to the pavillion, hole #1 tee and course descriptions. I'll also be working on posting up a small preliminary course map that I got from Andi. Hopefully folks will be able to print it off for reference.

Here is a MapQuest link to the exit you need to take off from US-290. Oak Meadows Place exit map (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?ovi=1&zoom=6&mapdata=lSH7onY3BgQyJl7nPrnDLnKEQGTamNvg5lrUtc0VSP mIfpFrOkQQIRUQL2dh5Pp4FZ5XUPSPFqOMfRpYgRpWexP8XlG3 DHI3%2buGlbAN3sgsMx2YtE4cRn6%2b4nKmnW6xcxawjZPY6d6 UUFAB3PgAjBWMdwe2IqGEd597sgLTaSg5uEiXIYax3rSB7f8Dp D21mTs%2fGgyEZHAVyuNgWkb9x9AhGBZWhpeiWGJpSRqDOuKIs aOj%2fCPLTFtY23rEKo3hIpEM%2b%2bHJMjWmHfa17DYCvZ2uR oheS%2bK8sbUGEAOoY1pX8bI67I7Jc0Iy9irx6XCkKrGQtQ0Kb shFopgkDYdR%2fMiSRzjx3Ap4m6oAIvWkn55aQOZ1unhHcWn0p Zq%2b3ZEp1Kif0dHgv7hXLDNtESe0md4FatO23AkioAdhJV0pY %2ffoOlQycMd3wudbbonp%2b7x3rSp%2fsrNHTW5fAxEv5GXJ9 XGtXkd66wkxTLWjOGsfaHv5zR16bL%2bk6togScXFH0bP6rrvi 6wp%2b%2b5NJVc8h0vb52CbBG%2bGWu%2bPmwybIBAoPz7Y4%2 ffx4CtMKFPUwGu1Xh8OaxzYPKGK%2b4vrSmyGA2qJQ5BDJI%2f eNvkwSefeF5ciK1N7Sb0BacQlqwg%3d%3d#map1-linkmap1-link)

Print that one out and it should get you to the right exit area.

If you are heading out of Houston, exit at the Spring Cypress / Cypress-Rosehill one.

Go through the Spring Cypress intersection to the next one and turn left on Cypress-Rosehill (heading South). The road name actually changes at this point to Fry Road.

Follow Fry Road south about 4 miles going past the massive Blackhorse complex/subdivision on your right.

Right where Blackhorse ends, you will see a huge sign saying "Bridgeland" and you should turn right there. The road winds back into the subdivision through lakes.

When you come to a detour sign directing you to detour to the left, TURN RIGHT! Drive about 60 feet and turn left into the parking lot and pavillion area.

You probably still need to figure out how to log onto the HFDS message board Doc...we've got a rough course map posted up there that you can download and print off...you'll probably need it.

Caution: Take about a gallon of Deet bug spray and wear really old shoes that you don't mind getting muddy...especially if it has rained. It is rumored to be drying out after rains last weekend. As of today, 2 holes were still mostly surrounded by swamp.

Doc - PM me if you have trouble figuring out how to get signed onto the HFDS message board. Note: you do have to use a real e-mail address and you need to follow the link sent back to your e-mail when you register. The last I checked...we had about 35 users still awaiting activation of their accounts...probably because they didn't use the right e-mail address, or they deleted the e-mail returned to them instead of following the link.

If this ain't already common knowledge, bring lots and lots of DEET with you. They are big, mean, unafraid of the sun, the wind, my hand, my disc, my towel, my cigar. Nothing can deter them. ;)

thanks for the information! any other info would be great: average hole length, wooded/open, tee signs, who designed the course, and any comments if you have thrown the course.

I'll tell you what I know, and what I've heard. I heard that Andi designed it. I have only played twelve or thirteen holes before the mosquitos picked me up and dropped me off at the car. I think that is what happened at least. For the holes I played, two were about 700', one was wide open and the other was wide open with a ditch traversing the fairway. The other ten holes were generally in the 270 to 440 range. Some were tighter than others, and accuracy is necessary to stay out of the penalizing shule.

Tee signs. No, or not yet. They were marked with flags. Other than #1, I'm confident we played the right tees though.

All in all (for the 12 holes I played), it is a great piece of land; lots of shule, trees, water (streams and lakes) and open space. It has tremendous potential, once the skeeters are under control.

Folks - It is still being designed by Andi Lehmann and Don Young. I've been out there 5 times now in the last 12 days, and they are still tweaking the tee box locations. The entire course area and all of its walkways etc, are still in a state of construction. There was freshly poured concrete all over the place - but most importantly, the footbridge's concrete was poured today and it is solid.

There is a new location for the Blue tees that is destined to become "The Signature Hole" for hole #10. It will be located across one of the ponds/lakes, on a little rising hill, and about 625' from the pin. (Maybe about 350-400' to clear the water.)

Hole #6 is still one of my favorites because of the scenic nature of it...just wait until they get it mowed up real nice and there is water flowing down the middle of the drainage ditch! LoL

<font color="red"> 100% - DEET - 100% - DEET - 100% - DEET - 100% - DEET </font>

All baskets will have at least 2 tee pads. Red (rec.) tee pad for every basket. White tees will share most of the same tees as the Blue except on 3 holes where there is supposed to actually be 3 full tees.

I think that the intent is to wait until the final tees get constructed before publishing any distances formally...Rick Bannister (of Flying High Disc Golf dot Com) is working to provide us with some preliminary distances. We got the first 10 holes - both tees done tonight. Only 8 more to go...but they are back in the woods and at dusk the mosquitos are swarming BIG TIME in there!!!

Personally, I'd like to see more out-of-towners waiting until this course gets completed before visiting it. When it gets done, this it is really gonna ROCK but it isn't done yet so I'd rather see our guests/visitors see it once it is complete and will leave the best impression.

Waded around the course for 14 holes before being rained out on the 4th...this will be a great course when completed.
It has rained everyday for a week so it was real wet but only had 1 mosquito bite. (I only sprayed once before the round)Well worth visiting.

Only one bite. I don't get it. Did they spray, or after one bite, do the skeeters just sense that your Texas blood has a Crazy Canadian taint. :p

Yeah Alex...I don't know what happened to the mosquitos last weekend. We played on Saturday and on Tuesday, and there were NO mosquitos out there!

I don't know, maybe they sprayed or something...still got a few chigger-bites but I really didn't see any mosquitos at all. I wonder what happened....

Someone spoke with a groudskeeper out there, and he says that the plan is to start mowing and maintaining the course just like a ball-golf course.

Although they didn't have it completely mowed last weekend, they had begun a fresh mow job. It is really cool to see the fairways mowed along the direction of the fairways and the paths to the next tee.

The rained killed off the current batch of the mosquitos. But mark my words, they're coming back... Next week will not be fun. Play today before the invation.

Spoke with Andi and Don last night. The tees haven't gone in yet because we keep getting rain every other day.

They know about the mosquito infestation out there and they intend on addressing it once the course gets completed. (My guess is that the folks putting in the sidewalks and tee pads will be giving them an earfull of grief about it too! :D)

I also heard a rumor that the park and course will not be "officially" opened until September/October. Rumor has it that a "Grand Opening" tournament event is already being discussed. Keep watching for further word on this one.
