Is'nt it a bit sad that a Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament in Las Vegas will reward the first place winner $50,000 and the highest pay out in a major disc golf tournament for a first place winner is only about $10,000! Something is really wrong here.

Yes it is, we just need to find a BIG company or 2 that need a huge right off at the end of the year and get to them before the Rock, paper scissors association gets to them!!!

Do you think that it is any coincidence that since they use a pooled entry fee format they choose to hold the event inside a casino? :D I'm serious. If I could find an Indian tribe for a partner I could get back into running disc golf tournaments in Michigan.

So is this a well established tournament, who is the sponsor and what is the value they receive? Just curious. What we really need is to convice some marketer that he needs to hawk us to his clients.

More questions: what does 2nd place get? What is the total purse and how does that compare to USDGC? Is throwing paper on the first play a bold move, or always foolish?

Last year the host was a casino. I don't know whether the event was sponsored or being run off entry fees. Hence, my post about hooking up with an Indian tribe to run disc golf tournaments.

You have to host that kind of event in a casino if there is an entry fee and you're giving away $50,000.

Because it could possibly be illegal otherwise. Sort of like our PDGA tournaments, right? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

PDGA tournaments are only illegal in a few states. Rock, paper, scissors tournaments would be illegal in all states if you are paying an entry fee and winning money except when held in a casino. In almost all states these "tests of skill" tournaments that we do in disc golf are legal even with the pooling of entry fees. But I don't think you'd get anyone to buy into that Rock, Paper, Scissors is a skill sport!

The Rock Paper Scissors guys would.

I looked into it, and they actually believe there is a lot of skill involved. A major strategy seems to be avoiding falling into patterns, while figuring out your opponents' patterns.

Do you think a higher percentage of the entry fees are kept versus the PDGA ?
