As quoted by Joe M last night. As of 10:30 p.m. tonight, Mr. Painter negotiated his resignation as City Manager of Live Oak. He will be on leave until Jan. 24th and then officially step down. There was not a dry eye in the room (including his own) as he spoke to the audience. As it should have been, under these circumstances, Mr. Painter received a standing ovation for his work and his fight. It is a sad day in LODGA-LAND but he will resurface in the near future and be just as strong.

Joe you are a good man and disc golf in the area owes you a lot. People may not know but Joe was involved in getting more than just Live Oak in the ground.

Try to enjoy your retirement Joe, you deserve it. Hope to see you on the course soon as a player.

I am proud to call you a good mate.

Thanks
Chris

God wouldn't put you thrugh it if he didn't think you could handle it. It's time to cross someone else's path for whatever reason, just as you did ours. Thank you so much for building our community into what it is today and what we have coming in the future because of your works. You are a true gentelman, best wishes and safe travels to you. Now you should use some of this time to LEARN HOW TO PUTT! Be good, see ya soon. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :(

That's good advice. Enjoy your time off, recharge your batteries, then go at it again.

Your contribution to Live Oak disc golf is now legendary.

See you on the course.

Chris and I attended the Parks and Recreation meeting tonight in Live Oak. After an hour and half of watching baseball leagues duke it out for the use of the 3 fields in the park, we finally got a chance to speak. Although we had asked to be on the agenda, it was not to be, and we had to speak during the Citizens to be Heard portion of the meeting. I detailed the various events we have scheduled and enumerated the charities that we support thru DG. Afterwards I expressed my concern about losing city support for disc golf, and that we were looking for assurances that DG will still be alive and well in Live Oak. The last thing we want to do is to plan major events in advance, only to have the course pulled from beneath us. At this point the only assurances we were given is that the city is supporting the Ice Bowl, but beyond that would not make any committments. They said they will put us on the agenda for the February meeting. At that meeting, we will make a formal presentation on the positive aspects of disc golf, and entertain any questions from the commissioners. Chris and I think it is important to be proactive with the Parks and Rec department and the City Council rather than wait for them to start pulling baskets. Hopefully our efforts will remind them how vital DG is to their community. I will provide dates and times later if you wish to come out and show your support for disc golf. One plus in our favor is that the Chair of the committee plays disc golf and instantly recognized and thanked Chris and I for our efforts in promoting disc golf in Live Oak.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but our behavior on the course has a direct effect on how disc golf is viewed in this community. Drinking, cursing, rude behavior, public urination, etc. are behaviors that will cause us to lose this course. I know none of you are gulty of this, but as ambassadors of the sport, please remind others that you see on the course exhibiting this kind of behavior just what could result. There are so many casual players at this course that we do not associate with, so when you see something out of bounds, make sure you confront them.

Thank you Brian and Chris for your efforts. It seems like the mood in Live Oak is to pave DG paradise and put up a Bingo lot. (to borrow a phrase)

Way to represent boys. You two are true leaders. After presenting the positive facts in Feb I think they will continue to support us. If we need to start a petition to give y'all somemore ammo, we can do that, remember all the sponsors on the back of the shirts, we're doing something right. ;)

I don't think were quite at the petition stage yet. And you know city govt's, they work very slow unless they are trying to fire someone. As long as we are out there letting them know who we are and we stay in their faces, we should be ok.

It was certainly an interesting meeting for the Baseball people. It almost felt like Brian and I stepped into a war zone.

If we all keep positive I am sure things will work out. As Brian said the meetings chair and a couple of the council people recognized us and even mentioned he had played a round with me. It just goes to show you never know who you are playing a round with, so play nice.

See everyone soon.
Chris
