I'd like to start a thread with specific tournaments to attend. I'd like to mainly focus on the 2006 season, since the 2005 is mostly winding down right now. If we could get the td's to post what they do for the women in their tourneys, how many were there in 2005 etc.

The Plastic Pilots El Dorado Open (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4883#Open) welcomed 17 women over 4 divisions. The entry fee was ridiculously low for Ladies and Juniors; a disproportionate amt of $$ was added.

...I like the port-a-potty idea for 2006's event; anybody familiar with the cost?

Come to the TWC(Texas Women's Championship) in Round Rock Texas
The date is not set but it's the week after Bowling Green(NT) and before Texas State(NT)
We are doing this to be inline with the NT tour to have the big name ladies down.
We HAD the record for most women attendance.....So we are shooting to have 80 ladies for 2006

Thanks Jen (Ms. Hick). I couldn't of said it better!

Ladies ask around...you'll find Jen is telling the truth!

Yes we love out Ladies...but more importantly we RESPECT our ladies.

2004 - 18 Women players (9 Pro, 9 Ams)
2005 - 20 Women (10 Pro, 10 Ams)

most important is the amount of returning ladies...I believe we have about a 90% return rate for Women.

TWC was already on the list Vinnie, give others a chance to. TX10 is a great thing also, we are lucky to have so much to choose from in Texas.

And no its not a problem when men are on the course, otherwise the women would only have two tournies a year to play. I like it either way.

Some people travel out of state for one day tournies. I did. :D

the Skylands Classic at Warwick 2005 NT event was female-friendly, in my biased opinion as the TD.....

We added extra cash to the payout structure in excess of the amount of cash they statistically should have been paid out.

We had some local crafts-folk make special items for all women entrants.

Our super staff went out of their way to help make the women feel special, even going so far as to ban the biggest male wierdos from entering their personal space or communicating with them...

Look under Round Rock, Brushy Creek DGC. Cat Hollow is the name of the subdivision the course is located in. Brushy Creek is the official name of the park area.

There will probably be a host hotel, but any hotel in Round Rock is on I-35 and ~10 minutes from the course.

Last years hotel info:

Bestwestern will PROvide us with a group rate of 59.90 a night for either a king or a two queen room.
2 queens beds/ one king bed is 59.90 a night.
They have breakfast, pool/hot tub, next to stake house(and the hotel has a voucher for $6. that will get you into the buffet), next to two bars, and only 6 miles from course.
Call 1-888-821-5578 to make reservations and mention the name "TEXAS WOMEN'S DISC GOLF" and that will save you $11 a night.

Also the courses that will be played I think are Rivery in Georgetown and Brushy Creek in Cat Hollow.

Georgetown is about 95 miles from Live Oak Baby, north of Round Rock.

I want to let all of you Pro Ladies know that Disc Golf Her is your personal sponsor again for The Z Boaz Open. Disc Golf Her will pay $30 of your $100 entry fee!!

The response was overwhelming at The 5th Z Boaz Open with 11 Pro Women!!

Not only will you get the extra support, you will also have the opportunity to participate in the Z Boaz Format Skins Match. There are 8 spots available. The top four Open Women and top four Open Men will be combined into mixed doubles teams (1st with 4th, 2nd with 3rd, 3rd with 2nd, and 4th with 1st) playing modified alternate shot (men drive first on odd holes, women driving first on even holes). This is one of the highlights of The Big Show each year and it is worth a minimum of $1000. I hope to see at least 11 women golfing it out for those 4 spots this year.

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to let you all know that the Texas 7 (formally Texas 10) will have reduced entry fees for Am Women.

For the first 6 events of the year a Rec Ladies (FW3) division will only be a $10 entry. This will be a trophy only division in an attempt to get even more ladies playing in Texas. $4 of that goes to the charity and $4 to the tour bonus at the final.

In the final Pro A-tier in September the entry fee will be $60 for the FPO. There will also be a 50% trophy only option for those ladies that want to play with the Pro's but can't afford the $60, which will make the fee just $30.

Texas 10/7 and all the events I do are big supporters of women in disc golf which shows from the turnouts we get at these events.

Have fun ladies and see you on the course soon.

Thanks
Chris

The entry fee for the FW1 at the Texas 7 Final will be $30 plus ace pot. I can't remember the rest, sorry. They will be online later. Reducing the entry fee will not reduce the quality of the event or experience, just hopefully attract even more players.

Seewhere I did give the men a break, read the main thread about Texas 7. This thread was about the women.

If you want to keep people like me employed its not your entry fees that helps, its buying discs and merchandise. Support your local people and TD's, and not online sites that don't care, or know nothing about the sport.

I just paid for Zboaz and my price was the same as the mens- which means a good payout, right? :D

ozdisc
Jan 06 2006, 04:01 PM
The 50% trophy only option for the Pro entry is a new thing the PDGA Competition Committee decided on a few months ago. The Texas 7 Final is split into an Am Day (Saturday) and a Pro Day (Sunday). Am Women can play in their division on Saturday and then if they want to play with some of the better Pro Ladies like Des Reading etc they can pay 50% of the regular $60 entry to have fun doing that.

You are right about more entry fees means more payout but to me there is a time and place to charge big money and a time not to. I hope that one day entry fees will all be dirt cheap and the payout comes from sponsors.

From over 15 years playing in Australia before I came here everything was for the competition and fun of it. If we did a tournament the say $10 entry (all players) would cover all your golf, lunch, drinks and some cool trophies. I sometimes miss that.

The female participation (and new men players) have been great for all 5 years of my tour. From what I hear the ladies enjoy playing these events for many reasons not just the entry fees or payout.

This being said there is nothing wrong with an event with higher entry fees. It is supply and demand. If you want to pay more and win more then you have that choice. I run both styles of events.

See you in OK for my Tour de Disc Golf.

Thanks
Chris

Not that I"ve actually made that many of Chris' events in the past. (I plan to make 3 + 1 this year!), but a one day event where the TD has good selection of payout that is geared towards the ladies is why I think they have done so well in years past.

Nothing worse than cashing in an event and then NOT being able to find anything you are interested in selecting. End up picking up what your boyfriend, husband, etc wants.

We have eleven women pre-registered for this one, four in Open and the rest in Intermediate and Rec. [The PDGA.com tour page is lagging behind and only shows 8, because Brett does not know about the other three yet.] On upper Saturday three advanced women are taking proper advantage of our really cheap pro trophy-only option, so that should be a lot of fun for Barrett. Right now Barrett is looking at a 150% payout!
