Does anyone have that list of the tournaments that offer women incentives for showing up? I think we should all work on attending these events, and getting the numbers up. What if you attended say, 7-8 events a year, and they all had at least 2 cards in Rec, Int, Adv, and Open. Maybe we can get you guys to post your tournaments that have had a good turnout. We currently have 360 am women with ratings, and I think 154 pros. We should work on planning our tournaments to run into each other as much as possible

So are you saying you're coming to the Oklahoma Open at the end of October?

What women are planning to come? It'll be a great opportunity to see some of the courses that will be played in Am World's 2006.

The four Brakel women will be playing IOS #7 in a couple of weeks, guaranteeing you competition in pretty much any women's amateur division. We'll have a lot of 150 class and 150-160 weight discs at this event, including light Champ Valkyries and Champ Orcs.

Two weeks later Discontinuum is hosting the Widdershins and women play free. They have a nice player pack and a cool trophy for the women.

I see that the majority of women who have replied to this survey are willing to travel "as far as necessary" to play against a lg field. so the next big point to make is that it HAS to be worth it!!! Only the top 2 or 3 pro women will be able to make it 'on the road' where the top 30 or so men would be able to survive 'on the road'. so here's the challenge to the td's. you have to treat the women like queens. some tourneys guarantee a nice payout for women and more women make it a point to play those tourneys. don't pay the women out w a lame payout. don't start women on the total opposite side of the course. offer caddies. but don't treat the ladies like the lowest of all dgers. there has to be a real attraction for more to participate. i have played tourneys where the fields were split and never came back together even at the awards ceremony. this makes women feel like stepchildren. women want to be part of the real action. i'm not saying it will be easy, but there have to be tourney directors out there who are willing to step it up to make it more worth the woman's while to play. cause it's not cheap to travel and most of the time women HAVE to travel a good distance to play with other women.

beisdes loving to travel, i know i would travel as far as possible to have the chance to have a huge feild. there are a few tournaments that i will NEVER reurn to...
first, starting the women on the opposite end of the course, and litterally sending us a mile to walk to our hole. there was one where i left b4 the oh-so-important players meeting so i could make it to my hole on time, and the two minutes was blown b4 i got there, when i arrived, i was the first one there. i obviously dont mind walking, but when starting a group that far, atleast provide some sort of transportation, even if its for a mens group.
then i went to an event a couple years ago, drove 5 hours cuz i thought there were goin to be women there. turned out, i was the only one, and then they paid me out not even half my entry fee. again, i will NEVER return. and i know this TD tries to get women to his events, but that is definately not the way to do it.
i think its also [I'm a potty-mouth!] as heII to split the women up from the men, and then do a seperate awards ceremony. can you even call it an awards ceremony with 5 people there? i think not. the guys are half the reason i go....
in my case i dont need to be treated like a queen, itd be nice, but how abou tjust as an equal?
past years in detroit, there are events where they start the women on the first holes. FLYING SAUCER knows how to hook the ladies up! i love you guys!
also, any JBIRD sponsered event, the ladies will be loved and hooked up.
i totaly agree that if there were some bigger attraction then alot more women would play in tournaments. my home course is litteraly flooded with chicks who golf. and everytime i mention a tournament to the ones i trty to talk to, they are not interested because i have nothing to tell them of what is offered, besides a sh it a ss payout (yes thered be a bigger payout if there were more), and a mile walk to the other side of the course... and that does not make em want to come out.
i think if there were gauranteed players pacs for women, with shirts that arent all XLs that might be a step in the right direction. i have about 30 golf shirts that i have received in the time i have played that are all waaaaaaay too big for me to ever wear. i am sure it can get costly to provide women with the sizes that they want, but come on. TDS order some mediums and smalls! how hard can it be?
everyone says they want more women.... well here is a little secret... women just want to be appriciated, and yes most do want special treatment. i think that would be the first step in gettin more chicks out to events. me, i could care less about appriciation and special treatment, i am just there to golf. but i dont want to be treated like the lowest of disc golfers out there either.

The WVO cut registration fees in half for women two years ago and since that was so well received we have made it a standing policy.

We also start the Women on hole one on the first round of the first day. (as we were always taught...ladies first!)

How about more tourneys with porta-potty's? That would be nice. How about a couple of stations that provided water and stuff like that under a tent? It's nice to be appreciated and catered to no matter what your gender is, woman are just use to it and expect it more. I went to this fabulous tourney where the man who was running it had it together. He had a tent out with water and lotion and even chocolates I think. He also had the brains and ability to have a porta-potty and male escorts that knew disc golf and could offer advice. There was great players pacs and great food. Can't wait for TWC to come back around again. Vinnie, in case I didn't tell you, you rock at td'ing and throwing one hell of an event for the ladies. :D:D

The response has been great so far. I think we need to focus on the td's that are already doing it, and maybe get to these events. What tournaments do these guys run? What have the women turnouts looked like in these?

I have found that a lot of TD's do try. Vinnie did outstanding with TWC!! Maceman tournaments have always treated me well too- So I don't understand why more woman don't turn out for his events.
The worst TD I had didn't even pay me out- I had to go ask for my pay out and then he gave me what he had left over- 2 180g rocs. My husband loves when I just get handed discs as a payout- they usually go to him.
Some TD's give you "coupons" so you can get what you want and what you can actaully use- I think that is a great idea!
I don't want to come across as ungreatful, just trying to offer suggestions as well!

Melissa-
I live in OKC and plan on attending the Open. I heard there is normally a good womans turnout for that. To me, good is having at least 4 people to compete against! :D

Where and when are these Macemen tournaments? I know I haven't been to them because I haven't heard of them before. I've tried to go on the Tournament calendar and look for ones with good women attendance, but there are alot , so it makes it a long and tedious process. It's too bad there are td's out there that don't even recognize us at the event. It does make it discouraging sometimes.

For IOS #7, it looks like the Advanced Women's division is showing up on Saturday and competing in the Men's Rec division. Advanced Women should feel free to compete in the Advanced Women's division on Sunday, but the two that I know are coming are playing on Saturday.

Does anyone know how many woman have signed up or are planning on attending the OK Open? I've heard Des plans on being there!
Who else will be there? Any other ladies want to split the cost of a hotel room by chance?

I am for sure playing. I am sure Ashley and Barb will as well. Stacey from Ark is not coming. Not sure about the few other women that normally show up to Tulsa area touneys. I, too, would like to know who from other areas will be playing though. Don't have any hotel ideas for you though. Sorry. I'm glad you're coming!
