Will Innova give Des a disc this year? She's now won two world championships and three women's championships. She's an inspiration to women everywhere. I'd love to throw a disc with her name on it. Des Reading Sidewinder?

:( What a bummer! As a woman disc golfer, I really look up to Des. She's one of the top female disc golfers ever. She's won TWO world championships, and THREE USWDGC titles. Not to mention, Des does a LOT to promote the sport to women and to kids. Does anyone know why they have no plans for a Des disc? They gave Barry a disc after he won only one PDGA championship. I'm a Wisconsinite, so that's okay with me (Go Barry!!)...but still, doesn't it seem like Des should have one by now? :confused:

I had an interesting idea come to me. Since there are so many of us that think Des deserves a disc, lets do something to show the Readings and Innova how we feel. Both the Readings and Innova are heavily involved with the EDGE program. Since this is the giving time of year, why not make a tax deductable contribution to an organization that furthers our sport?

I think it would be great if we all made contributions to the EDGE program under the title of "DES DESERVES A DISC". By doing this EDGE, Innova and the Readings would know how much we care. And maybe one day she will get the disc she deserves.

Is anyone interested in this?

Innova could be contacted directly. I thought doing something through EDGE would be more meaningful than several names on a list that is sent to Innova. Dave and Harold from Innova help start the EDGE program and the Readings are the spokes people for EDGE. It is something that both parties would see and appreciate. It was just an idea that I had. I was planning on giving EDGE a donation before I had the thought.

I never heard of Edge before- I think if people actaully participate it is a great idea! I'm at work. So I will check out that web site further at lunch- thanks Rob.
And you are so right Vegan- Everyone who meets Des knows and loves her- skills wise and personality wise! I think shame on Innova- they've given signature discs to those how have accomplished less. (not saying they don't deserve it though!) I just don't understand their reason for not doing the same for Des. Anyone?

She better get a disc. I just can't think of why they wouldn't give her one. I think it doesn't send a very good message to the women.

We plan on doing a limited edition champions signature disc which will feature Des and our other 2005 Champions. Not sure which disc at this point.

And this disc they are talking about now won't be just hers. It will be all of the champions' disc.

Its bunk. Des has smashed people this year time and time again. She is probably the best female role model in disc golf and its not like that will change. Her role in the Edge program with Jay allows her to come into contact with the future of disc golf, both men and women. For a company that can release 20+ discs in 4-5 different kinds of plastic, I think Innova is really dropping the ball. Having your own disc from the leading company in disc golf should be more about just winnning, and I dont think ANY player in the World deserves one more.

So my very next question to her was, which one?

She said that she thought that if she were to get a signature disc, that she wanted it to be a Shark! (Honestly...Des' own words!)

I think we ought to start a write-in campaign to Innova to get a Des Reading Shark signature disc! (And...maybe they could also find a market making an extra small mini-disc that could double as her card-protector for poker too! She is a shark at Hold em! :D)

Did you ask her how she'd feel about everybody else pushing for something that she may not care about? It may not be what she really wants. I think that's more important than how deserving we think she is.

On the other hand it may be exactly what she wants, but it seems like she should have a say in it.

Des signed a disc for me at the Oklahoma Open a couple weeks ago, and I mentioned how great it would be if she could sign one of "her" discs. She immediately told me to call the West Coast. I definitely got the impression that she would like "her own" disc.

Des is humble, she's not going to ask for a disc- but I heard her say something along those lines too- "talk to the West Coast" to someone else that same weekend when we asked her about it.

I personally asked her the question about a Des Reading signature disc. Des said to contact the Innova West Coast office and give them my thoughts.

Jay and Des gave me 3 of Des' Wraiths to put up on eBay to help them fund there trip to the Japan Open this year. The first one will go up later today. They both leave today on tour for the Summer.
